Lincoln City Race, NUL, Mens Vet, 3rd.
Just the western part of the city was used, so we didn't get into the complex Bishops Palace, and not the castle either this time. Even so, the course was well planned and provided a few good challenges, though once you'd spotted them the execution of each leg was pretty easy. Nice start through the complex university bit.
The route to the last control (#21), and from it to the finish, both involved the flyover to cross back over the river and railway. I got the route to #21 ok, but hadn't planned ahead for the leg to the finish. When I got there, all I could see was a long run down the other side of the flyover until I could get back into the university complex. The alternative I saw was to use another bridge over the railway rather than the flyover - so that's what i did.
It was only when I was back at the car, thinking that there must have been a better way to do it, that I realised there was. The flyover has steps up onto it at both sides of the railway, so that was by far the best route. Mine was over a minute worse. I'd been in the lead around the whole course until then, but dropped to third 8 seconds behind Brian and 4 seconds behind Rob. Arrrgh!!
So, another Nopesport League race in which I managed to throw victory away between the last control and the finish. Must stop doing that!

Monsal Trail, mountain biking with Lesley. Lots of people out on a sunny day. Fairly leisurely pace. Went to both ends, then had lunch at Hassop Station cafe.

Scottish 6 Days, Day 6, Coulmony and Belivat, M45L, 14th.
Was aiming for a top 10 today, which might have got me a top 10 overall, but even early on in the race I was feeling tired from a week of racing, so it changed into "just get round".
Tricky first few short legs, but I got through those without losing much time. At the timed-out road crossing I looked at routes for the rest of the course, but then set off too quickly and missed the first one after the road (#12) by 2 mins. Took it steady after that, but still managed to miss #25 by a couple of minutes, and then an easy #27 by 30 secs because I got distracted by elites and a TV tower.
14th overall. Better than the top-20 I expected when I saw how big the field was, but not as good as it should have been given that I was running well in the sand dune areas, apart from some silly mistakes.

Scottish 6 Days, Day 5, Roseisle, M45L, 27th.
Running reasonably well early on, but then had a bad miss at #22, spent 4-5 minutes relocating and looking again in the same places, before I finally worked out the map and found it. After that I lost interest in racing, and was too tired to navigate well. Thankfully a Norwegian runner came through and dragged me round the last few.
Went from 7th to 27th as a result of the bad error, so today won't be a counter.

Scottish 6 Days Day 4, Loch of Boath, M45L, 21st.
Careless mistake cost me 1 minute at #2, but otherwise orienteering ok, just running too slowly to get a good result. Should have had a late start and benefitted from some tracks, but started earlier in order to be back in time for WOC 2015 launch speech and VIP sandwiches. Tough terrain which I'm not fit enough for.
