Track intervals 15:00 [4] 1.0 km (15:00 / km)

110m hurdles practice. Could remember what I'm supposed to do, but was struggling to actually do it. Got over about 4 high hurdles in a row without hitting them, but then lost stride pattern. Hmm.

Anyway, how many points is it for Ronnie?!? Saw him several times, each time he came round the track.

Track warm up/down 20:00 [3] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)

Warm up.

Orienteering race 1:24:30 [4] 8.5 km (9:56 / km) +390m 8:05 / km

Regional Event, Bigland. Was too relaxed (after night at very nice hotel), almost missed start time, missed control 1, then navigated poorly for the rest of the course missing several more controls. Just couldn't concentrate, and Bigland requires full concentration. Rubbish. At least I took my GPS, so I know where I actually went, otherwise I'd have little idea..!

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

Run to start.

Orienteering race 30:00 [3] 3.1 mi (9:41 / mi) +150m 8:25 / mi

Middle race on Backbarrow. Wet & slippy rock and brashings, more like training than a race. Missed a control because I was looking for a cairn when in fact the black circle meant "platform". Doh!

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] 2.0 km (10:00 / km) +200m 6:40 / km

Jog to & from start/finish, on top of a hill.

Note
(rest day)

Went to the Hallamshire track tonight. Not to do any running though, just to collect Lesley from discus chucking practice. Might have to actually get my track spikes out soon though, and remember how to jump over hurdles. Athletics comp at Hull on 3rd May...

Orienteering (Burbage) 1:01:00 [2] 7.0 km (8:43 / km) +250m 7:24 / km

Spring Cup training at Surprise View, Burbage. No brain power, and very little leg power, so it was slow, but very enjoyable in the evening sunshine on the moorland.

Orienteering race (British Relays) 42:45 [5] ***** 5.5 km (7:46 / km)
ahr:175 max:187

Culbin. First leg, with Bill on 2nd & Charlie on 3rd. Mass start with all other mens classes, so a bit chaotic for first couple of controls, but then settled into flow in group with Clive and Jon.

Missed badly at number 9 (200, knoll foot) in green - must have been very close without seeing flag. Spent 3-4 mins looking around with several others, then decided we must be in completely wrong bit of forest. Spent 2 mins running away and coming back again having worked out we were in the right patch of forest, then another 2 mins actually finding the thing. Total 10 mins for a 3 min leg! The only good thing was that I could still see Jon just ahead, and Clive behind, who I thought were the main competition. Several other teams must have got well ahead.

Finished 5 mins down in 11th, but Bill and Charlie did the business, and we won by 4 mins. Phew!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3] 1.5 km (10:00 / km)

warm up

Orienteering race (British Champs) 1:09:01 [5] ***** 10.6 km (6:31 / km) +240m 5:51 / km
ahr:179 max:190

Culbin. Good concentration, and it felt like quite a clean run, but in fact there were a few wobbles in the circle that cost me some time. Don't think I could have run Bill's winning time (66), but it might have been close, so happy with 3rd.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 3.0 km (6:40 / km)

warming up and jogging to start
