Jogging (Trail) 41:30 intensity: (20:00 @2) + (20:00 @3) + (1:30 @4) 7.25 km (5:43 / km) +115m 5:18 / km

Took a look at weather forecast and realized I had to get out early ish but not early enough it seems-76F, 65% RH at 8.30. Paced myself at what I thought would be "comfortable" to complete the French XC loop; barely achieved mission as having trouble coping with the humidity. Just felt blah.

Note

Dehydrated! Gulped 1 L OJ post run. Feel better.
Now weaning off Candy Crush - a vicious little app that distracted me across the Pacific. A bit like Tetris, but bad when you start to dream little candy shapes dropping from the heavens.

Walking 27:00 [1] 2.4 km (11:15 / km)

Muggy muggy.

Note

Watching the SFO disaster unfold; fortunately such crash landings are largely survivable, but pays to know the emergency procedures. Sobering thoughts as I head off on next flight- and the B777 happens to be my favorite plane.

Walking 28:00 [1] 2.4 km (11:40 / km)

More humidity today.

Spin warm up/down 10:05 [2] 5.0 km (2:01 / km)

Before core

Strength 12:00 [2]

Abs, finishing with planks and some hams.

Stretching 10:00 [0]

Still getting the kinks out after the long haul. Need a massage!

Note

Succumbed to drowsy this pm and snoozed for a few hours. Might be good and then again might not.

Walking 35:00 [1] 3.2 km (10:56 / km)

Evening wander through French, down to beach and back.
Has potential for Park O.

Walking 29:00 [1] 2.5 km (11:36 / km)

Glorious 4th

Jogging warm up/down (Trail) 19:37 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (9:37 @3) 3.6 km (5:27 / km) +40m 5:10 / km

Warm 80F. Still feel like s--- and heavy legs to boot. Not used to the humidity either, so for an "easy" run this felt labored. Foot was OK though, so that's something.

Note

Feeling less befuddled and sleepy today. Nothing like minimal sleep in 36 hours and seeing Tuesday twice- just hope I don't have to make another emergency visit anytime soon.

Walking 28:00 [1] 2.4 km (11:40 / km)

Nice sunny, non humid morning.
Feel like carp today - bad dose of JL.

Note

Foot improving.....slowly. Bought a 1mHz home US unit ($50 online) to aid in rehab and will get a second opinion; credit my sister (Pharmacist) on both pieces of advice :)

Spin warm up/down 17:30 [2] 7.25 km (2:25 / km)

Easy loosen up

Strength 50:00 [2]

Core, upper body, cleans and squats

Stretching 10:00 [0]

Pretty tight post flight

Tuesday Jul 2, 2013 #

Note

And it's already Tuesday. Three hour something flight across the bight meant no sleep, so getting back into destination time zone.

Note
(rest day)

Made it to LA on a very foggy morning. Last leg to home.

Note

Home at last, befuddled from lack of sleep in last 36 hours. Successful trip family wise.

Walking 31:00 [1] 2.4 km (12:55 / km)

JL'D revocery in the sunshine

Monday Jul 1, 2013 #

Jogging 17:00 [3] 3.0 km (5:40 / km) +50m 5:14 / km

Test jog with foot strapped to see if that helped any. It did.

Walking 25:00 [2] 2.4 km (10:25 / km)

Short hike along the old water pipeline into Wungong valley for old times sake.

Note

Then time for farewells. Dad had made good progress over the week and was in good spirits, although a teary farewell. Given the distance you never know when......

Saw my sister one more time for dinner and then off to the airport for the redeye to SYD, and points east. BTW I hate the east bound Pacific route- have done it too many times over the years (only advantage i can think of is accumulating air miles and that's no prize).Turns out I have to be in London on the 9th, so west bound round the world would have been great. Unfortunately did not plan this down under foray and have to be home for the 4th and to celebrate 30 years of marriage this coming week!

Oh yeah and sometimes I wonder why I live in the Northern Hemisphere? Nothing beats a mild Perth winter with blue skies and moderate temps!

Orienteering (Bush ) 48:00 [2] 4.0 km (12:00 / km) +110m 10:33 / km

Another beautiful day -76F, "carnival atmosphere" near Walyunga Park. Was told not to run, so a good excuse to amble around a short course. So so map, but fortunately none of the prickly bush I remember from that area some 35 years ago. Speaking of history, reconnected with my old track coach and OAWA founding father Gary Aitken. Also was presented with a very nice book of the history of orienteering in WA for 1974 thru 2009. Several mentions in there including record of a few state champs wins. Anyway fun day down memory lane.

Walking 20:00 [1] 1.6 km (12:30 / km)

Evening ramble up the hill to the old cottage. Took some snaps of the grazing Roos and sun setting over the western plain.
