Saturday Aug 29, 2015 #

Note

For all the trackies out there. Fantastic effort by Mo Farah to secure the 5000 and 10000m double at the Worlds. Peerless effort in the final sprint. One of the all time greats! (Can I possibly enthuse more?)

Tuesday Aug 18, 2015 #

Walking 22:00 [1] 2.5 km (8:48 / km)

Got my hie on to avoid the impending rain

Note

Picked up a copy of Running Times today (a mag with a more "elite" focus than Runners World) and noted a couple of interesting articles- one on Kiwi middle distance running dominance (the latest being Nick Willis) and another on the recently departed Aussie distance legend Ron Clark. Re Kiwiland, a timely reminder because tomorrow I get to meet with the son of Sir Graham Douglas, the latter an Olympian who was a sponsor of a young stand out by the name of John Walker. Indeed, there is a running track in Auckland NZ named after Sir Graham- so kind of feels like running royalty!

Walking 22:00 [1] 2.0 km (11:00 / km)

Working the lawn party

Note

Went back to work (kind of ) today. Sponsored /hosted the annual summer party (again) - this year "Musicfest" with live bands, food trucks and amusements.
Bands were Sweet Siren a professional rock group, Black Box Warning a cobbled together from employees band playing covers and of course the incredible Celtic Cobbers. No nepotism at play here, but my twin brother (!) and his mate Tullamore Tom, played Irish /Aussie songs to a crowd of 300. Since Billabong Bill wasn't allowed to lift anything, the roadie crew did all the schlepping. Had professional sound crew, sound mixer and about 5000W of output. Biggest gig yet for these itinerant musos :) and the genuine feedback was encouraging enough for them to consider going on tour (yeah like that's gonna happen). Even Pro band Sweet Siren payed them compliments :)
Thankfully a few minor flubs on chords and lyrics went unnoticed by the party crowd! Video coming soon........
Oh yes and a payed gig, donating proceeds to St Jude (gotta a day job still!) , on Sept 27th at Claddaghs Irish Pub in Maple Grove :-)

Walking 24:00 [1] 2.25 km (10:40 / km)

Bit sorer today as block wearing off, as in kicked in the guts feeling, so used I and V judiciously.

Monday Aug 10, 2015 #

Note

Surgery day, ambulatory center. Big difference to December, with an absence of pipes and tubes. Home 2 hours after the procedure. Strict instructions with no running or lifting for 4 weeks, and the confident remark of my surgeon that he doesn't believe I can do that! Reverse psychology at play might just work :-)

Walking 24:00 [1] 2.0 km (12:00 / km)

Glacial pace outing. Walking is prescribed- running and lifting banned for 4 weeks.

Sunday Aug 9, 2015 #

Trail running 20:31 [3] 3.9 km (5:16 / km) +45m 4:58 / km

Short outing to retrain the legs, although now facing a few weeks off. Repair of incisional hernia, which has got larger, in am and promised my surgeon no strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks (please define strenuous!) for risk of recurrence. Tad humid out, certainly compared to the Rockies, but moved along at a decent clip. Kept it short for fear of surgical complications from dehydration etc.

Strength 25:00 [2]

Catch up on misc. yard work
