Park Run 58:42 [2] 5.0 km (11:44 / km)
shoes: grey/white

Today dawned clear but crisp - was thinking of the people at the Merriwa parkrun launch!
Today marked my 150th parkrun - a milestone not officially recognised by parkrun but it is locally. I shared this with Julie C (100th) and Anne N (50th). I also shared it with about 50 other fantastic people who were very generous in their congratulations to me. The most fantastic person was my Ian - junior junior - who came to support me. He's done a total of 4 parkruns now - his 1st at rockman's last running parkrun, 2nd at rockman's 50th parkrun (post surgery walking) and that fateful Mother's Day this year when he was to surprise me but I didn't turn up for our "date". So he specialises in specials! He's very special. Ian walked with me (and dragged the chain a bit) as he tried to put the uni back together again from when he was a student here.

Today also marked my 25th time volunteering at parkrun acting as tailwalker.

Hope today's weather returns in 2 weeks time for the Newcastle Shorts Weekend.

With my mind very much stressed I couldn't make head nor tail of the requirements for the Hard Medium so elected to do Hard Short. The area is benign and distance wouldn't have been a problem - but thought it wise to defer.
S-1 tracks but went in too early in a break in the vegetation - tried to make it fit, retreated and went further. Realised i'd overcompensated for 1:7 500 scale.
1-2Bearing and vegetation
2-3 around track on top of hillock, more track, picked good attackpoint.
3-4crossed first w/c but must have drifted to a bit low on the w/c so up I went. Control not quite where it was marked as tree root mound on other side of w/c.
4-5 track, vegetation
5-6 Track, w/c, burnt out area
6-7 route choice! Went direct E to track and thought I'd picked well for the junction I wanted - what a silly idea that was. Went all of 10 m and realised this hillock I could see was actually the embankment further down. Options - go back and wimp out on track or skirt embankment anyway. Soon got very thorny and scratchy so opted for climb up to the real track. Down past #2 skirting vegetation further E but wasn't confident (everyone else I spoke to used it!) but got to waterfront track and quickly picked it up.
7-8 trundle along track to inlet - beside inlet,
8-F along w/c, picked gap in vegetation and out to track
Was fun seeing lots of people out criss-crossing.
Beaut day - lots of people and some newcomers and families.
