Event (QBIII 3 - CHEC) 20:28 [4] *** 2.0 km (10:14 / km) +35m 9:25 / km
spiked:11/12c

Ran here 3 years ago so felt OK, but was very wary of being over confident. Had about 6 mins lead over 3rd and knew I shouldn't lose that much if I fluffed a control but absolutely must not DNF so punching was in slow motion. Just as well as a few people came undone.
Warmed up and pleased I did. Met quite a few people who'd already been out and they were shaking their heads and saying "lost time", "got confused" but surprisingly no one said "on wrong level" which I was expecting - possibly the big boys may have had that issue.
Only miss was a control that I was told was in the wrong place (or mapping issues) - not sure. All I knew was it wasn't where I wanted it to be. Sorted it out and on I went (#5).
Went possibly at 80% still on the basis of consistent and push when I can.
About 1 min down on today but still ahead of #3 person - YAY.

So retained 2nd position. Newcastle did very well throughout -maybe we got one over the Sydneyites who had to do the extra travel this time!!!
Nice chat afterwards with Warwick Davis and Andrew C-T, but didn't have to hang around/get controls in so helped with results board.

So 3 very different days - sand dunes, flat fast and sprint.
BBN did a fantastic job, admittedly assisted by a number of willing helpers in many different roles.
While being a sceptic, I think the "no start times" worked well.
And despite my nerves beforehand I managed to keep them under control and very happy with my return to the big time. Congrats to Vicki W who won our class - and I'm super pleased with my 3 days. 3 clean runs consecutively is 3 more than I've had in the past 5 years!

Event (QBIII -Day 2 Oppys Gully) 54:37 [3] *** 4.2 km (13:00 / km) +80m 11:52 / km
spiked:6/7c

Driving in the terrain reminded me of Belford, and so it was. Very friendly terrain, 1 huge long leg which despite me breaking it into 4 parts still was a long way - about 1/3 of the whole course. Completely missed 1 route choice, despite it being my backup plan if the creek crossing should prove difficult (it certainly didn't). The terrain 1-2-3 made it clear that diverting from the straight line option was a waste for me. The long grass was a bit of a downer in this long leg too. But I shouldn't whinge as rockman also decided to go red lining too - silly boy!
Kept up a steady jog throughout with a few bits of walking and tried awefully hard towards the end when I thought I was safe. The whole aim is to be safe and not make mistakes in vague areas - and it was vague!!!
But the courses were great and I ended up only 20 sec behind 1st so retained my 2nd position. Still got to remember to breathe!! Not quite at ease in the bush still. Still lacking confidence.

Edit: Splits report no time loss! YAY!

Event (QBIII - Boambee Beach) 42:23 [4] *** 2.2 km (19:16 / km) +40m 17:40 / km
spiked:11/12c

Well this was a turn up for the books. My absolute worst terrain, no confidence in ability, 3 weeks of sick and sloth and the best run I've had in ages - like 3 years. Was very apprehensive - sand dune etc but mapping was great and hence comprehension was good. Great to have so many people running all over the place -some not knowing where they were going - some very puzzled looks and frustrations. Kept my head for once and made some good decisions.
rockman did oh so well!
In 2nd place by about 4 mins. Tomorrow is another day.

Sloth has returned.

running 30:00 [4] 5.0 km (6:00 / km)

I know I know it's on a machine and I get help with support but this was very necessary. Tried to visualise parkrun route and was intrigued that the timing was fairly close for the marker points - pity that the total time isn't reflective. Pleased to be doing it. Certainly feeling a few tight parts after yesterday's Pump class (only because of previous 2 weeks of sloth)

gym class (Body Pump) 55:00 [3]

Sloth begone! I am back. It was a toss up whether I'd drop down a kg because I've been slack for 2 weeks but decided to give it a go. Made it all the way so i was pleased with that.

cycle ints 12:00 [3]

Silly bike wasn't very helpful for me to do 8-12 ints so had to wing it sometimes. Time seemed to go more quickly than I remembered from previous attempts. Thought I'd just give it 10 mins (includes 2min warm up and warm down) as a starter.
Think I'll try to do this on a more regular basis, seeing as I totally failed at running ints.
