Event (SL2 - Long Swamp) 1:31:49 [3] ***
spiked:10/14c

Same area but terrain more friendly - but 2km more than yesterday. Hoping for a better outcome. First control a little thought passed across my tiny brain - I hope this is the only control I climb too far for today - and it was but I did!!! Lots of route planning needed and despite the better ground conditions I didn't feel so inclined to run. Just plain not up to it. Wasn't too impressed with the number of swamp crossings - yes we warned but as a wearer of orthodics I don't appreciate soggy supports. Grave concerns about control placement for 2 controls and legs related to them - danger for some competitors. Controls were accurately placed - just unnecessarily dangerous for the age group and fitness levels. Navigation really good - pleased. fitness - none. Strength good - so some work over the next couple of weeks. Still no recurrence of glute problem so all good.
Not too sure how the sitting/driving will be on the way home.

Event (SL 1 - Gardiners Gap E) 1:47:19 [3]
spiked:11/17c

Very tentative and not really interested. First bush experience for the year was very salutory. I do like this mix of terrain but dubious experiences in previous events on this map and with this Planner didn't put me in a good frame of mind.
Slow for the whole time but to be fair lots of stuff underfoot. Wayward on occasions but a real Dora Explorer route choice took me to the top of the pagodas and I could see foreverrrr. Had to hold it together to remember which control I was up to. "Met " up with rockman who was equally impressive and we stumbled around for the same couple of controls. I got a couple of seconds on him here and there (which says a lot!). A bit of discussion afterwards in relation to course length. For a Middle Distance the times were frightful with Hanny Alston the best at 47 mins (approx). Lots of us hoping for similar times tomorrow for the Long course. Escaped unscathed - physically, but not emotionally or mentally.

gym class (Body Sculpt) 1:00:00 [4]

I'm starting to feel a bit despondent - really tough today which normally I would be pleased about. But with SL 1/2 this weekend I feel very unfit. I feel strong - which probably relates to the gym program over the past 3 months but feel pretty slow otherwise. This class had everything - brief headache in the warm up, close to spew in the first run, return of headache in the second run but felt better running wise, sharp "as" cramp low in R calf very near Achilles in second phase, then relaxed but returned with a vengeance. Almost got to the door to leave (only 2nd time ever to leave a class) when the run crowd came back in so was trapped. I took it quietly during the burpees section and cramp finally went but then the extended section of lunges and I was worried it would return - but it didn't. A bit ginger for the rest of the class modifying all activities - who would have thought I would have done push ups instead of Step? Such a mess - looking to change out of strength mode into speed (ha ha that's a joke) for the next 8 weeks.
Will need to work on sleep too - that could be contributing to problems.

Note

Great afternoon at Hinton PS visiting AASC group there. Played some games - modified another. Did a Scatter course - had some fun.

gym class (Body Pump) 1:00:00 [4]

Really tough class - we were all feeling it. The good news is that R glute has been quiet for a couple of days in general and about a week at gym. Perhaps it has settled down.

gym class (Cross Trainer) 1:00:00 [5]

If I did every other class I normally do in a week consecutively I would not feel as dead as I do now. Oh how I've missed this class - and obviously my body has too. Good that now Street and Park (almost) are over I can inflict this amount of pain on myself with some regularity. Babooshka intervals killed me but I will fight to become good at them. Absolutely amazed that my glute didn't worry me, though afterwards just a hint of tenderness. Looking forward to Park Finals today.

walking (control placement) 45:00 [1]

Putting out controls on Young orienteers school only course and 5 on Finals course. Beautiful afternoon. Steady stream of kids for the Young Orienteers Course - some did it a 2nd time. Pleased all rockman's hard work was well received. My thanks to MessEng for helping me set up Admin and Assembly and for bringing in my Schools controls (surviving the wrath of some very late starters!) as well as some of rockman's. He saw a bit of the map. Methinks he can have a rest now for a few weeks.
OK so that's finished - next commitment - a special flying visit to Hinton PS tomorrow afternoon for a special orienteering afternoon before club AGM tomorrow night.
10 PM

Note

Certainly feeling the after effects of today's class - hamstrings especially. Had a low R calf cramp while putting out controls this afternoon and back and hammies really tight tonight. Stretching as much as I can but even driving for 25 minutes was a struggle tonight. Not going to be a happy night tonight sleeping.

Solid class - again with heavy bar so chest track was rugged but achievable.
