I actually skied better than I thought I would for this tough event. Ski's felt OK, despite the new snow and cold temps. I think it was about 3-4 degrees at the start.
Pre-sorted and started at the 2:30 time slot, which would have been fast for me. There were a lot of 4 hour skiers in front of me though. So much for an honest pre-sort. They played the national anthem, and then boom, we are on our way. I hadn't started my garmin. Double poling and trying to start a garmin sucks... better than Alex though, the start caught him without his skis or poles on, and he was up front....
I went about 100 meters past the start, someone stepped on my pole... my skis went straight up and I landed flat on my back. Caught that with my gopro.... :-)
I stayed steady eddie throughout the rest of the race. Caught an edge once and took a slow tumble. Passed a lot and got passed by a few.
I saw O-Steve on the course twice, saw Charlie S (CAOC) at the gear drop, but noone else from the O crew. Conditions were good, course was hard, glad I went up for it.
Skiing has been tough for me this year. No motivation. I skied a bunch of K on the birkie trail a few weeks back, going back this weekend for the pre-Birkie. Not too optimistic about results.... The plan is to go hard and just collapse for the rest of the weekend....
