Body Project 20:00 [3]
shoes: Karhu Racer Fulcrum_Ride

Initial fitness assessment for the Body Project at Seagate. This will consist of 20 weeks of 2/week weight training and 3/week cardio workouts. I am doing it more for the supervised weight training than anything else. Hopefully we will see some results.

Started off with body fat calipers, then waist, hips, chest, thigh, and arm circumference. My BodPod session got moved to the 19th.

Next came a treadmill VO2 max session. Wasn't feeling all that cardio ready after the supurbocross last night, but put the game face on. They start at 10% incline on the treadmill and increase to 12, 14, then top out at 15. Increases in speed and incline occur every 3 minutes. After 15%, it is just speed increases. I made it to 18:16. Heart rate was at 168. Wanted to leave some room for improvement..... Longest so far of the people tested. Not sure that will last. Pretty sure it will not.

Next was bench press. 4 count down, 2 count up. 185 lbs. I did 20 reps. Felt like a wimp. I can tell I haven't done any lifting in a long time....

Final test was leg press on a sled. I did 10 reps at 210 lbs. They had me go down in a 4 count until my knees were almost touching my shoulders. Went against my understanding of squats, but the staff member is really up on his stuff.

20 weeks... It will be fun to look back and see what changes come out of this.

Cycling (Supburbocross) 1:30:00 [3] 20.5 mi (13.7 mph) +1ft
ahr:108 max:115 shoes: Sidi Dragon 2

How is that for a total non-function workout for the GPS. I went 17 miles in the parking lot at the start....

My second iteration of the Supurbocross. I felt that I rode much better/comfortable this time as I knew the course (except for the new singletrack) and was with some people that pushed me a bit more. Still a little sketchy on some of the turn offs and trying to go fast down single track at night your first time on the trail. I did much better than last time, but still a good margin for improvement.

This race is fun. Casual or competitive, something for everyone. Great prizes at the end. Good folks.

Note

Went to Tria today. The Dr. diagnosed it as "Lace Bite"... Essentially, I have bruised tendons from the lacing in my shoes. I need to start lacing my shoes differently until everything is healed. Hopefully it won't take too long.

Note

I start the Seagate "Body Project" a week from Monday. This Friday I have to baseline with body fat, height, weight, a couple of strength tests and a make shift VO2 Max test on the treadmill.

This Wednesday, I go to the U for a Bod Pod Test.

Started out on the long Minnegoat and by control #3 decided that the short version was going to be my event for the day. I have had intermittent pain in the top of my left foot for the last month plus and it decided that this event it was going to rear it's ugly head. I ran/hobbled the course OK. I took the road (path) less traveled to #2 and actually beat most of the field. I was a little shaky going to #3, but was still following to some extent. I took the long route again to #6, but bobbled the last few hundred meters. #13 was another bobble, there was a group following/paralleling me. They all ran by and I wandered after them. I was the first to correct and reach the control. I was passed again on the way to the transition, which cemented the notion that I wasn't running well. It would have been fun to actually compete on these awesome new maps.
