Day two of CO training. We went to a sweet national forest and practiced naving on 1:50k maps. We took our time and spent a good bit identifying distant features, etc. Scale was huge.

Most of our effort was on the CO Trail. We split into two groups at one point. We each marked and set two controls, then came back to the start and set out to find the other teams controls. Good fun, but hard to find good features on a 1:50k. I told the other team, "Side of mountain" is not a good control placement. Each team was able to find 1 of the two controls.... Not stellar, but fun.

We then tried to climb a peak called "The Castle" The problem was all access to it was through private property. We abandoned that peak and set off to climb one that peaked at 9300'. Nice climb.... Then we hit the trail and called it a day.

Day 1 of training in CO. Bike ride with the RTNX team. There is a run thrown in here at Red rocks.

We all used Jeff's bikes. I got the better end of the deal here. JP was on a 29er with Road slicks. Jeff and Paula had road bikes, and I had a CX bike. Compact crank served me well. I was first to the top on all the climbs.

I had a full pack, lots of weight. Nothing compared to JP though. Jeff needed a new garbage disposal and we stopped at home depot. JP had to carry it for the next 50 miles. :-)

We had hoped to run the stairs at red rocks, but there was a concert. We got a little contact high from all the concert goers. We ran the trail instead. Hiked a bit to get some pics.

I will post my Garmin data when I get back.

Vetting the MNOC Adventure O. Late start. Great course. Something for all skill and fitness levels. WEDALI appreciated me running the course and will be making some adjustments.
