2-1 loss. MoBiz weren't there. Could have used them. We played with no subs on the female side. The team we played was about our equals. A good fast match that could have gone either way.

Turkey Burner 2010!!!

Chaska start on a nice chilly morning. The route was a west/south west trail ride along the Minnesota river. A nice long out and back on bike, followed by a out and back run, and a final push to the start. Last year we split in to two groups, so I started to hang with the front group as we followed in Greg's wide pugsley tracks. My bike felt pretty mushy, which I thought was due to the conditions. About 2/3rds of the way in to the ride, by rear shock bottomed out and stayed there... bummer. I rode cautious for awhile, not knowing whether I was damaging anything.

I felt really out of shape at the start, but once I let the front runners slip away, I settled into a rhythm and started to feel OK. I think we drank too much on thanksgiving. The event should have been called the wine burner...

Some social event... I think I rode 75% of this leg alone... :-)

Nice run in a new park. Finally got hooked up with a group for some socializing. We stopped at the 1/3 point to climb a huge rock (one of the CPs) and then off on the run again. My knee started to bother me during the last mile to mile and a half.

Adventure Race (Cycling) 1:08:10 intensity: (2:27 @0) + (14:36 @1) + (8:23 @2) + (28:23 @3) + (14:21 @4) ** 6.43 mi (10:36 / mi) +53ft 10:31 / mi
ahr:131 max:156 spiked:1/1c shoes: Sidi Dragon 2

Ride back to the start point. More downhill than up, with a cautious river crossing in the middle over a bridge with a huge log and ice jam. Knee continued to bother me. I think I decided to change pedals during this ride. I love my speedplay frogs, but I was really frustrated with my inability to lock in with snow on my shoes. I guess I have a little time to do some research while I wait on my shock repair.

Soccer clinic. We played the best team in the league. We were close for the first 40 minutes or so, then they blew it wide open. I think the final was 4-2. Knee felt better. I am still a little careful with it.

Running (Seagate Turkey Trot) 19:51 [4] 3.12 mi (6:22 / mi)
shoes: Newton Gravity Trainer

Finally!!!! My goal last spring was to break 20 minutes in a 5k. I trained pretty regularly with Clark, but missed by 13 seconds. I haven't done any focused training lately. Just OTNT and some soccer. This course was easier, but I can still put it down as a PR, at least an "old fat guy" era PR. I did a 10:45 2 miler in the army, but didn't do any real 5k's.

Soccer 1:15:00 [3]

First Seagate soccer game of the winter with my new team.... I think some off field wind sprints and long distance runs are in order. Slow to the ball, slow with the ball, and slow to jog off and hurl...

We lost 2-1. It could have been 8-0 pretty easily. We were missing two of our more skilled players. We will have to see what the team looks like with everyone there. Hopefully a little better or this is going to be a long season.

Logging the game, I didn't get a chance to sub, plus 15 minutes of warmup.

Another great OTNT set by Mike Carlson. We did butterfly loops in Como. We will have to be careful if there is another snow. I don't think the XC skiers liked us running all over their tracks. The snow is crap now, but if they get the place groomed, we may catch some grief.

The course was 4 loops, three controls each. The burdock was avoidable, but I still managed to get a little on me. It was interesting to go through the different return routes on the way back. Good long legs through open fields. Some times you could see a distant landmark to help guide you, but often you would have to use the slope of the ground to bring you in.

Went to Gabes post event and crushed the competition in trivia.

Hung 4 of the event flags and 6 for the sprint course. Had fun putting up the obstacles on the sprint and watching the confused faces of people staring at the sprint map.

OTNT set by Mike and Julia. My first time in this park and on this map. A great setting for a sprint course. This was intended to be an 8k+ course, but I guess Mike had a scale issue, so he decided we would run the course twice. Once with a map, and the 2nd time as a memory O.

I had some minor bobbles on the first time through. Looking for a powerpole in a sea of lamp posts, looking for a really small trail in a forest of burrs and weeds, and looking for a trail in a tumble of landscape debris. It was fun, but I wasted a good portion of time. Came back covered in burrs, almost as bad as Tom, but I had to stop and pull a lot of them off they were bugging me so badly.

Orienteering 23:21 [4] *** 2.66 mi (8:47 / mi) +58ft 8:37 / mi
spiked:11/13c shoes: VJ Falcons

A good run on the memory O. I had a few "where was that control?" moments, but fairly clean. 9 minutes of the run with the map. Much better route selection.

Note

A little comic relief from the Camp Ripley weekend.

5-6: I was tracking well, but couldn't see the control behind the trees....
11-12: Started down the correct spur, corrected to the wrong spur and ended up running all 4 on this cool hill.
17-18: Noodles on the brain?
20-21: When in doubt, run the wrong way "moderately" fast...

Ripley Confusion

Soccer 35:00 [4]

A fun game against an 0-5 team. I think they recruited an extra player and keeper. We clearly dominated the control of the ball, but their keeper was a wall. Chris had a sleepy night in goal, except for one hair raising 2-1 that he somehow stood on his head and stopped. In the end, we won 2-0 and I got my second goal of the season on a deflected shot.

Great OTNT organized by Tom and Crusher. Took it easy as I hurt my knee playing soccer.
