SHI Relay

Mostly fine up to 1, wasn’t 100% of location along the way, but got it okay, and seemed nobody else had gotten this gaffle yet. Went round to path and joined a few other gaffles, came down into 2, but just followed others into theirs very clearly. Silly. Came back up towards mine, and saw felly & Freddie go through here but I just never saw the pit, of them hit it, so went too low and faffed before hitting it. About 90sec-2mins of messing.

Ploughed on, got through next few, but a little lower on motivation. Was in behind pedley & a welsh, but didn’t like their line to 7 at the top, thought it could be gaffled and I proceeded to feck it again. Went too high, another 60-90sec.
Got back into it & clean through next few, but not running as fast as I could have been in the pack.
Tried a bit to drop this welshman, which was working, but got confused by the field on 14, and lost 30sec.
Got away on the in & out rough part of the forest, and was solo the rest of the way.
Grand round the last loop.

Never really pushing out there, felt like I was strong enough but not really working hard enough. Not the most relevant point though, as my mistakes were the real issue. #2 should have been easy, and I knew what was happening, so it was very stupid, evidently I just lost the head briefly. Think it was very costly, as my #2 was slightly shorter, and it could have put me right up at the front at that point. Undoubtedly would have struggled back up the hill to 7, but within touching distance I think I could have held on for a long while.
Sure look, live and learn, I don’t like 1st leg, but I would have thought I should be able for them, this was not pretty though.

SHI Long

Started quite well I think, clean through the first technical loop. Started the long leg with intentions of getting the climb done early while the going was alright, so went a bit left of the line and would come back across the top of the hills.
In the end the going was brutal, I didn’t climb enough and basically just ended up on straight, which was savage terrain. Got eaten alive. Saw sasha & barrable run across the top of the hill and flailed my way over to there, but was behind them.

Barrable made a mistake at the start of the butterfly and I got him, and spent a lot of time not too far behind, making the most of his lines.
Still some small slips, and the gap grew but came back again.

Enjoyed it a lot, seemed it could have been a solid race, but did blow probably 6-8mins on that silly route (incl 1min on shoe coming off on that leg).

Grant Thornton 5k

Initial aim was sub-17. Then a bit of an eye on 16:40, 16:30 and pb.
Started too fast almost certainly, as I came round in 3:05, nice.
Didn't feel myself fading, but it just started to get a little harder as it went on.
Was tucked in and moving well enough with Niall, both of us going slightly better when behind, rather than in front, but we worked together well enough and swapped it up a bit.
After about 3.5 - 4k, Niall kicked on a bit to catch some others and I couldn't get up there with him. One or two caught up to me and I held on down the home straight.

Content enough, and eyes on rathfarnham 5k end of the month.
