WOC test Middle - 2nd Irish

Main race of the weekend.
Feeling alright off the start, and moving fine up the hill, slightly right at the top, corrected back across, and coming down I saw roar just in front (2mins) - mixed thoughts, sweet, I've caught roar, but also shit he's lost. He was coming up from where I expected the control to be, so it couldn't be there, assumed I still had to go left. Went on, no control, and not making sense and now no roar too. Feck, i've fucked it. Corrected back right and hit it eventually but 2mins lost.

Set off steady to 2, navigating fine, a little sketch coming in as it was rather featureless, but the line was good, and spotted after going just past it. Caught by my Latvian here (2mins), and he went by me up the hill, I took a better line and hit 3 ahead, but followed his line through the green to 4, and saw roar again (who I assumed I'd caught again, but no he'd caught me on this leg).

Left the latvian go, and took the track route to 5, with roar behind. Knew now that I'd lost plenty of time, but if roar had too so could all the other Irish. I wasn't feeling strong but I knew I could at least keep it clean. Clean into 5 & worked fine through 6 & 7 and realised I'd lost roar, cool. Track to 8, and not great in the last section going into 9 through the green. Nice white route to 10. Had got a good few alright here, so confidence was slowly rising back>
Dropped to the track before 11, and contoured round to it. Saw features that looked right, but no control. Then the beach didn't line up below, this was very confusing, wandered a little back due to the beach, found another control. No luck. knew it had to be a little further and a little higher. Eventually got it, but 90s lost. In hindsight, it should have been obvious to stay quite high while contouring.

This mistake set me back, now I felt I'd lost too much to be in with a shot. Still, set off towards #12. but slower and less motivated than before. got 12, and climbed up towards 13 and got it fine. Another brain-issue and decided I should save climb and go along the track to the left, and cut back through the green to 14 instead of crossing the river, very silly, and another 90s gone. Punched it with roar then and ran through the last 2 controls just behind him (with another 20-30s mistake).

Very disappointing, looked at results and saw I was 90s down which made those last ones so much more frustrating. Ah well. Something to learn from, thinking far too much about everyone else's race.

Woc Sprint test
Achilles was playing up a bit this morning & warming up, taped up which helped a bit and decided not to risk it before middle which is more important.
Took it steady and see how the Achilles was, all good throughout, and felt better for it afterwards.
Navigation felt a bit lazy when not racing, small bit scrappy but mostly aight.

Easy round a sigulda training map from swedes.
Downhill, and very scrappy green, nice enough training but hard to get going.
And a long climb back up after downhill intervals. Chill but nice to get out
