Note

grand oul week - less than planned, but not bad, and decent climb by the usual standards. Happy to rest up now pre-JK.

Decent work has been done.
11 AM

Running warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.7 km (5:53 / km) +50m 5:08 / km

Running 45:45 [5] 8.63 km (5:18 / km) +500m 4:07 / km

Intervarsity hillrunning Camaderry - 3rd

Everyone started quite quickly, with a few nutters.
Kept it controlled but didn't really want to lose the pack on the fire road.
Pack got a small gap on the zigzags, but re-grouped leaving the forest due to incorrect markers, and some people losing a little bit of time - suited me.
Here, the 4 leaders had gone on wrong, and then had to cut up & catch up with us again.

Stuck with the group, watched Peter O'Farrell go away from us, then when Clare McCarthy made a move away, I decided I should keep some self-respect and follow her. Started moving away from the pack incl. Laurence, Josh & Christoph, in pursuit of Clare.

The leaders caught up now, and went by - NUIG lad & Mael of trinity, maybe lost up to 2mins there.

Caught Clare as it flattened, but we stuck together on the steep final climb - didn't want to look back. At this stage had to do a little walking, but going strong enough still.
Summited just ahead of Clare, and saw on the turnaround I had a reasonable gap to the others. 4th place now, so started chasing the 3 in front.

Not the best descent on the steep part but worked hard on the grass and caught Mael. Did enough on the switchbacks to get a sizeable gap on him for the finial 2km fire road, swooped up the bum bag I'd dropped earlier then, but didn't do enough to get all that close to Peter.

3rd place, can't complain. However Mael was hard done by with the mistake. Climbing is improving.

Running 18:00 [1] 2.4 km (7:30 / km)

shuffle with Christoph, Laurence & Josh.
then dip & sit in the lake - very much helped my quads.

Evening loop.
Took it very easy.

Running 41:42 [2] 9.05 km (4:37 / km)

Road run.
Right calf tightened up a bit, so I turned back a bit early.
After the last 3 days all being below-plan mileage, I'm going to call it this week on mileage, and just take whatever I get.

Time to start looking toward the JK. Although intervarsity hillrunning this weekend first.
