Orienteering (IOC 2011 Relay Men's Open) 39:41 [5] 6.42 km (6:11 / km)
shoes: Olway O' shoes

Well, I took first leg on the 3rock team with Kyle and Gerard going 2nd and third respectively.
I felt alright in the start area, and started okay, I knew to avoid the others stopping earlier, and while i went too high and hit the track, relocation wasn't too hard. In an attempt to run too fast, I missed the left-hand route-choice, up the track, the better one. But navigated quite comfortably from 3 to 7, messed up 8 though. I could see the front 3 just ahead having left the next 2 controls and was trying to pull them in. I lost the run of myself though, and didn't concentrate well enough, read in and spiked it, but just didn't look hard enough for the control and ran on. To 9, I was slightly left and hit the small (massive) depression, sensibly thinking I was too high dropped instead of climbed for my relocation. Darren and some other guy got ahead of me here, and I spent the rest of the course basically just following them. Came back in 6th I think. Team did pretty well, caught up to 4th. Didn't get to talk to the others, not so happy with my run, could've been a lot better.
Poor gaffles. Well, no gaffles. Annoying.

Orienteering race (IOC 2011 Classic M20A) 58:28 [5] 9.17 km (6:23 / km) +355m 5:21 / km
shoes: Olway O' shoes

Had another solid run. And first time as Irish Champ!
excl. M12 when I won middle or something I think cos' I followed a W21N who they mixed up and started at the same time as me.

I was kind of unsure coming into today. Lacking in confidence (which makes absolutely no sense less than a week since the JK). For some reason I felt last week was a complete once off, and I wanted to prove to myself that it wasn't. I just wanted to run a good race, and I figured this would always lead to a good result, be it Top 2 or win or whatever.

I knew certain legs could break your run but never make it by themselves, so I didn't mess them up too badly, although I was a little off for 1, and slow to 10, I read more than I should have. Generally I just recognised the easier controls and the harder ones. Easier; I sped up a bit: 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, 15, 16, 17. Potentially trickier; I read a bit more and avoided big mistakes: 1, 3, 5, 6, 10. But I still kept up a good speed. I did have mistakes, but not too much. About 20secs to 1, 20secs to 9, 30-40secs to 12.
I also lost a bit due to bad decision making, I went too wide to 10 and 11. I decided to climb early to 14 rather than drop, but didn't get such great running up above and could see the very nice running below. I thought I was also a little wide to 6, but it appears not to be too bad. But a very good run, these losses always happen, well, for the moment.

I had originally told myself that it wouldn't be a proper win, unless someone not only won the M20, but beat the 18s. Jack beat me by a little over a minute. But I don't care, it still seems fairly proper. He just nailed it too.

Note

Looking back, a very solid JK, good runs every day, and solid positions too. Just put them all up, including quickroutes. Not sure about distances, as I don't have my garmin put up, but will update them in a few days. Will also put up mid-week trainings then.
Unfortunately, I get to miss all of 2.5km of a middle distance on Saturday, I'm working hard to get my ass back for Sunday though.

FML.

Note

This makes no sense. Within a few hours, my middle distance quick route has received over 100 views, and yet both my other quick routes have received less than 4..

Orienteering warm up/down 21:51 [2] 2.49 km (8:47 / km)

Contour-O and partly jogging up. Went over my ankle pretty bad. Lay there shouting at myself and abusing myself, only to get up 5mins later painless and in running condition again.

Orienteering 14:04 [5] 2.28 km (6:10 / km)
shoes: Olway O' shoes

Race pace O' in Scarr with lads and Todd and Colm. It was faster than race pace, but that said, I didn't not think that nobody couldn't do this sort of pace today (Sunday), and I felt I was quicker than this pace for many sections, so.. dunno.
Fun though.

Orienteering 25:35 [2] 3.41 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Olway O' shoes

A downhill course and some stuff to finish off. Not very nice controls.

Orienteering warm up/down 9:21 [2] 1.21 km (7:44 / km)
shoes: Olway O' shoes

Little bit of a warm up with Clodagh and shadowed her for her first course on the Bull!

Orienteering 32:45 [3] 4.92 km (6:39 / km)
shoes: Olway O' shoes

2 courses with Cillin, Jonny and Laurence. I planned both but Laurence printed them. We were all a little tired and too lazy to do Laurence's 2 and the contours only.
