Note

Out at Granite Planite hanging streamers for the weekend. Happy to see there were cows out there busy trimming the grass. Curiously, all the adult cows were black or (a few) brown, while all the calves were white. I don't know how to explain this other than maybe entropy?

Note

Air quality this morning was quite poor, the worst day so far this week. It did improve a good bit by late in the day. Hopefully it gets better still from here, but with all the fires burning west of here (Cali), expectations are not high.

Note

Walked an hour and a half, mostly out in the School Section. Very smoky the past three days, and today there was so much smoke it was pretty dark out in the afternoon and looked like rain was eminent--but there was no rain. In fact, there's been no rain this month except for two very tiny sprinkles that amounted to almost nothing.

I guess we've been lucky this summer that the air quality has been very good up until this week. Now it looks like we will be dealing with smoke and haze for a while, as the entire region is basically experiencing drought conditions and is therefore quite fire prone.

Note

Walking every day, since there isn't much more that I am supposed/allowed to be doing. Today I was out for about 1 1/2 hrs, in the late afternoon, by which time it was pleasant rather than hot. While I was on the Jacoby Ridge trail, I passed Austin Mueller going the other way. He was talking on his phone to someone, and I could almost make out they were talking about not eating surstromming.

Note

Saw my surgeon today at the two week mark. Everything seems to be healing up well, and now it's a matter of continuing to take it easy for another couple of weeks before starting to ease back into things.

Quite a bit of smoke in the valley in the morning and much of the day from the Cameron Peak fire south of here.
