Note

It was a stunningly beautiful and nice November day, almost balmy feeling, with not even a hint of a cloud until very late in the day, when a line of clouds appeared on the horizon to the west. And the winds were off playing somewhere else.

So I did some biking in the the early afternoon and then headed off to Remarkable Flats and ran a fun course, finishing up a little after sunset, with enough late day glow to find my truck by. Of course I was going to find my truck even if it had been dark, but a little glow to go by is always fine.

I didn't see any hunters or hear any rifle shots (except from some target shooters in a nearby quarry area.) By now perhaps most hunters have filled their tags? Who knows.

Note

Longish run up top in snow and ample wind. I didn't notice any newly wind felled, but it could be that I was looking in all the wrong places. It was chilly in any exposed open areas where the full force of the wind was available.

The descent into winter's weather was apparent as I was finishing up, and had an overview of a long stretch of I-80 east of the Summit. There were flashing lights on the highway. One set of flashing lights, moving, is not necessarily a bad sign. It's probably just a snowplow. Multiple sets of flashing lights is never a good sign. In this case, there were multiple sets, plus a long line non-moving eastbound traffic. Therefore, wreck, probably due at least in part to an icy road surface and ground blizzarding. Speed probably played a role, too. When conditions get bad up top, there are always a few drivers going way too fast for the conditions.

Note

Snowed today/tonight, so a nice run from home to the snow line and back. Sheep all gone.

Note

8 km of O' at Remarkable Flats, pushing against nightfall, and not wholly successfully, having to drop a little 3 control section in the failing light.

Snow and some winter supposed to be heading in tomorrow!

Note

While running at Permian Sins, I came across 2 dead cow elk in the same general area, looking like they had been killed at about the same time. No meat had been taken. Whether it was wanton killing, a failed attempt at poaching or something else, but I figured the game warden would want to know about it, so I called in another report.

Very nice day otherwise, especially for early November. Well, very nice for running an biking; a good bit less nice for skiing!
