Note

A slight change in climate is lined up and headed this way, but until very late in the day the trend of poppy blooms weather remained in place, and I got out in advance of the oncoming weather front. Orienteered out in the northern parts of Diamond Bay. Hunters (or at least guys in trucks driving around and looking like hunters) were out in abundance. I saw one hunter out in the forest who didn't see me, and I don't know how many hunters saw me that I didn't see. I was able to run the whole course I had planned except for one control which had me headed into an area where some target shooting was going on, and I opted to change that control on the fly. I still haven't seen evidence of even one animal being shot up in the National Forest so far this hunting season, though surely the hunters have had at least some successes somewhere up there.

Note

I watched the last two outs of the last inning of the baseball game tonight. Baseball is a pretty good sport, but it could be a lot better if they got rid of the beards, the bellies, and the spitting. Some cheerleaders might help, as well. To be sure, orienteering has its share of beards and bellies, but not so much the spitting.

Two outs of one inning seems to be about the right amount of baseball to watch each year (no need to overdo it), so now I'm good for 2014.

And all this after doing a tiny amount of mapping and a set of intervals after the mapping. Legs feel decent again and now fully recovered from the recent efforts up on the Happy Jack trails.

Note

Was very happy to meet with 2 fine folks from the Forest Service this morning and take them out to four different spots on our maps where old barbed wire tangles have been lurking in the woods. Every bit of barbed wire that comes out of the woods goes down as a win in my book, and while we've never had anyone get hurt on barbed wire on any of our races to date, the less out there, the smaller the chances anyone ever will get hurt that way.

Note

Middle distance styled course--though with added length--at Remarkable Flats. Mostly in the intricate rock area added several years ago. Very fun.

We're having the nicest October here I can remember, and today was at the extreme end of nice--full sun, no wind, no bugs, even the red lights were all green. Could it really have been 70F like one thermometer read?
