Note

After finding no sheds worth keeping last year, I've now found nice sheds on back to back days. Clearly the new re-emphasis on O' training is already paying off. One shed came from a thicker bit of wooded area at Pelican Bay, which makes me think that if I go back and spend a little time warming up in that area I might be able to find the companion piece.

Roads are still gated off. Ostensibly because the roads were wet and getting damaged by overly vigorous vehicle use, but now they're pretty dry, at least every place I've run. Maybe the roads won't re-open this year? Maybe they will never re-open? That would make things more interesting in figuring out where and how to organize Daze. But for now I will hold the faith that the roads will be re-opened, perhaps even soon. In fact, as I think on it, it can be a contest to see which happens first: we get our use permit for this year, or the roads re-open. I suppose I could make it a three-way contest by adding in when I see the first tick this year, but I'd rather not think about ticks any more than necessary, so I won't.

Note

Biked, and then headed out to map, and then to run a simulated Tiomila dusk leg at Pelican Bay (at dusk, of course!)

Very nice day--the first to hit the 70 degree mark. Aaaah!

O' running went well--I was nearly perfect on all the legs and controls, and went around fast enough that the head lamp was unnecessary.

I can only applaud the decision of the Tiomila organizers to begin the Men's race with 2 day legs. It makes following the race from Rocky Mountain Time Zone so humane--the race is already over and it's not even 11 pm yet, leaving plenty of time for map drafting or guitar playing. Probably guitar playing. Sounds like it was a great Tiomila this year.

Note

The long, many day storm at last moseyed on along, and was replaced by blue skies today. Still a bit breezy, but so what? The sun more than made up for it. Made an attempt to run up at Happy Jack, and found there was too much, too heavy new snow, and so ran highway (shoulders) instead. One good, mild day coupled with sun will take care of most of the new snow, at a guess. Streams are brimming, and will run higher yet soon.

After reviewing some Tiomila information tonight, I sat back for a moment thinking about the nice forest, fine terrain, and great map that awaits the runners. Then I thought: what one word would I choose to best describe Sweden? My choice right now would be: snygg. Soon it will be time to spend more time thinking about Daze instead.

Sat, Apr 26: wind, rain turning to snow overnight? check
Sun, Apr 27: big wind, blizzard? check
Mon, Apr 28: big wind, snow? check
Tues, Apr 29: big wind, snow? check
Wed, Apr 30: wind, snow? check

In other words, situation for late April winter in SE Wyoming is completely normal.
