Note

Today is the day we descend into the darkest sixth of the year. It is the day that all makers of head lamps smile broadly and beam brightly. Sales will spike upwards and coffers will be refilled.

Orienteering 2:03:00 [2]

Ran on a formerly outstanding map, which is now not so outstanding. The problems are two-fold: 1) heavy infestations of barberry have sprung up, transforming large portions of the terrain to fight or something so closely resembling fight it almost doesn't matter; and 2) some revisions to the map have been made over the years, serving as proof of the the truth of the statement that "not all revisions are equal". No doubt the revisor(s) tried, but they did not succeed, and that's all I have to say about that. Basically the entire map now needs to be thoroughly re-surveyed. That wouldn't eliminate the barberry, but at least you would know where it is and could deal with it, and it would restore consistency to the rest of the map.

run 1:21:00 [3]

Pretty top day, and felt almost like I was back to normal, aside from the fact that I dropped a good bit of fitness over October. Hopefully that will come back in time!

I ran in an area I haven't been in for over 20 years (as best I can recall), and it was a treat to get back. The first part of the run had some definite trolly aspects to it (owing to certain required passages), and then some scrambling along a decidedly billygoatish trail was next up on the list. At last I could pass over to the promised land, where hilly trails parted some lovely open deciduous forest, now mostly bereft of leaves. A memorable run, even if it wasn't raining.
