Orienteering 1:26:00 [3]

Pelican Bay. Warmup activities consisted of doing some more mapping at the eastern end of the map, and now a whopping .3km2 are in the bag so far this season. At this prodigious rate, BP is going to get their oil well capped before I get this new chunk of map done.

The O' was good, but the best part was running by a totally mired sub-moron truck, which had attempted one mud bog too far. I did not see any life forms or sub-life forms in the vicinity of the truck; at appeared they had abandoned ship.

On the way home, I noticed there were two wind tubes resting at the Summit Visitor's Center. For a moment looking at the tubes, my competitive juices got flowing, as I was reminded of past glories and the triumphant moment when I emerged from a culvert as the World Uphill Culvert Crawling Champion.

Orienteering 1:46:00 [4]

Two more big tubes were headed down the canyon as I was headed up.

To judge by the number of mud caked 4 wheelers driving around in the National Forest, a lot of mud bogging must have been going on today.

Note

This run was slightly notable in that it killed off what I believe was my last Billygoat t-shirt.

Now on to the 1000 Day t-shirts!

The river is pretty high now. Probably it's flooding, except that there really isn't anything it can flood into and damage, so maybe it's a sort of tree falling in the forest with nobody to hear it kind of thing.

run 50:00 [2]

Low key was the order for the day.

run 1:35:00 [3]

Trails at Happy Jack are now mostly dry--or, at least, not covered in snow anymore, though there is still some snow and ice on some of the groomed ski trails. But aside from some pock-marked sections (the horsy set has already been active), running conditions were pretty decent.

Of all the things that I wasn't expecting to see that I *did* see, top-O-the-list honors has to go to an Oldsmobile hubcap, sitting in the middle of a ski trail, and not even remotely near a road. How weird is that???

Based on the amount of money I found out on the road at the airport, this was a fine 26 cent ride.

Note

An additional note about Google Maps--it was good that the old imagery was updated with stuff less than a year old. Unfortunately, I now see that up in the national forest the new imagery is one level poorer in resolution than what was there before, and that's not good. The previous imagery was *much* more useful for O' mapping purposes than what it's been replaced by. Oh, well! : (
