Orienteering 1:42:00 [4]

Test ran one of the Red Day 2 courses, partly as a reality check on the length, to see if they might be too long or not. Even with legs still fairly jellyish from a decent bike ride just a little earlier in the day, I was able to run the course in a time of under 65 minutes (actual time will remain classified for the time being). If a decrepit, all used up swampfox can run one of these courses in under 65 minutes, just imagine how fast some of the well trained, svelte, super studly F21s can do it in! And even the better M40s & M45s--though obviously no F21s, they--ought to be able to get around in respectable times too.

Test ride to see if the mosquitos could outfly my cycling speed. They couldn't--at least not tonight. But maybe they had just had dinner?

Orienteering 1:45:00 [2]

Finished streamering US Champs controls; plan to take a fresh look at final controls for Day 2 in a few days and see if I want to make any changes there, but otherwise the designs seem about right now.

biking 1:48:00 [3]

I saw quite a few cyclists riding north into town on US 287 in small groups, mostly wearing the same jersey. Hadn't heard anything about a tour passing through town, and I have no idea if it was some kind of sneak cycling invasion or what. I doubt the veep would have been pleased by all those people on bikes and not burning gas in cars though.

Borderline warm out, which is unusual for this early in late June. Rode out along Rogers Canyon Road and then up the canyon itself, which, complete with sheep herds tended by genuine Basque sheperds and towering limestone cliffs, is the closest thing we have to the Pyrnees within a few miles of town.
