run 2:14:00 [2]

Inspecting for sub-moron damage. I don't know what it is, but for the past few weekends they've actually been quite well behaved.

I did half the run sagging my pants, but a sheriff's deputy drove by and said if I did that anymore, I would be cited and forced to re-locate to NYC. Man!

secret mtn bike training 33:00 [3]

Perhaps inspired by Spike's sand campaigning, I went out this morning to try out various techniques for riding through sand. My preferred strategy, waiting for the street sweeper, was out today this being a Saturday. They don't do much sweeping on Saturdays unless a mighty sandstorm or maybe some Texans blow through. It turns out the best strategy is: when you see sand coming in view up ahead, turn around and go the other way!

Besides, the sand could have prickly pear thorns or crazy ants hidden in it, so it's really best to not tempt fate in that manner.

Orienteering 1:16:00 [2]

Bisbee Hill, streamering.

Note

As I was turning off the highway to go into the map area, I noticed a group of about 6-7 vehicles parked across the road, on the dirt road that leads to Pelican Bay. Sometimes mountain bikers gather there, but two police cars belied that possibility. Maybe it was some sub-morons getting busted for drugs?

But, after watching the news tonight, I think I know what was really going on, which was that the body of a dead person was found over that way today. From the reporting, it sounds like the actual location was somewhere over on the "Forrest Meadows" map.

Orienteering 1:17:00 [4]

Test ran the US Champs Day 1 Red course. Except for one mystery boulder on the map that was nowhere to be seen in the terrain, things looked great, and it was a lot of fun running the course.

Probably the boulder was a tiny dot of dirt or something on the fieldwork that got scanned in, but who knows. The raw odds of it just happening to be in place where I would run by it today *and* have it stand out for being missing? Pretty small. Really small! I wonder if that's how the mystery big boulder at Hawn made the map?

run 1:46:00 [3]

An off-the-scale awesome day. Summers here are so great when they do finally arrive! Tons of mountain bikers were out; also several attack turkeys, and one bobcat. The bobcat was a surprise and the attack turkeys were, of course, rather alarming. Still some snow left at the east cornice that will no doubt make it to official summer.

It looks like mountain biking locally has upticked again this year. The trails are drying out quickly now and are busy!

Note

Samantha (SATC, not Saeger) stared down at the 12.1 km2 map and sighed with contentment. Oooooooh my! She used to think 10.4 km2 would do it for her, but not any longer, and she told the sharp dressed man so.

This left the sharp dressed man feeling awkward. Not sure how to respond, he played a few notes on his trusty Pearly Gates using pick harmonics, and let those Texified geetar squeals do his talkin for him. Mercy!

When it's summer and it's nice out, it's *really* nice out. If we just had another 2-3 weeks of summer... : )

Orienteering 1:43:00 [2]

Finished streamering Day 1 stuff. Mostly ran easy, but on several really nice downhills, I ran as fast as I could to see how long I could get the tail on my blip to extend. I was pretty impressed until some cattle decided to join in, and I have to admit they were able to get the tails on their blips much longer. But they start with a totally unfair natural advantage, being born with tails already. So, realistically, they should probably be banned or at least be given some worming medicines and branded several times. Plus, they have four hooves to run on. That really helps in the sage.

Note

Whoa--according to the weather forecasts, it could hit a sizzling 80F in Laramie tomorrow!!!

That would be without precedent, and for sure already stores are gearing up for a major run on air conditioning units, crushed ice, and stylish sun dresses (for the ladies.) Folks will feel unaccustomed amounts of moisture on their faces, and will pile into the ER, where the doctor on duty will inform them that they most likely have been sweating, and will write them out prescriptions for one or another delicious Pepsico beverage, chilled to icy perfection--the perfect cure!
