Note

A few scurrilous types, who happened to do well enough to seize
the top 5 spots in the One Man Relay:

The scoundrels are: John Goodwin (who made the unfortunate choice of not selecting UW for university), Boris Granovski (who somewhat amazingly chose Uppsala over Laramie), Leif Anderson (who is slowly coming to recognize the error of his ways and is understanding that they could still be overcome by selecting the correct grad school program, which would be UW's Geology Dept.), Eric Bone (who is still in so much agony over not attending UW that he stayed over in Laramie for one last day after the US Champs), and Fredrik Eliasson, who won the One Man Relay and who said afterwards: "I guess this pretty much makes me a cowboy on merit."

Note

Don't turn your talking points on me, because baby I wanna Accelerate!

Note

I finally dared peaked at the map closet again. It was much as I feared: despite my best efforts during recent Laramie Daze, there still remain vast stockpiles of maps that need to be used. Too vast. It does not augur well for my future plans for R&R, blissful idleness, and extensive couch potatoing.

Note

Got the last of the controls picked up today, and just need to visit several water controls on Day 2 and make sure they're cleaned up, and that will pretty much take care of leaving the forest in good shape after the week of Daze and the Championships. So fine!

Note

All's well that ends well.

Note

A fabulous day at the Daze, with all the runners you could want smurfing the heck out of the ground juniper at Jubal E. Spring.

Orienteering 1 [3]

Orienteering 1:48:00 [3]

Many temp records broken across Wyoming and Colorado today, including the records for the date in Laramie (90) and Cheyenne (98). Still, by the time I went out in the late afternoon, it was as pleasant a summer day as you could imagine for running. Except for the grass seeds. Holy cow! When I got home I could have emptied out my shoes into burlap sacks and gone into the prairie lawn seed business.

Really dry out, and satisfying little poofs of dust come up with each footstrike out on the prairie, just like in those old westerns when the horses were galloping.
