biking 1:02:00 [2]

First outdoors cycling this year!

skiing 56:00 [2]

Spring-like conditions continued, with today being even nicer out than any of the previous 3. Several swarms of woodpeckers were attacking some especially delicious beetle killed trees.

run 1:01:00 [3]

Could not resist the trifecta, so cut skiing short and...ran!

Note

I'm very excited! Sunset is at 5:34 today. Plus, the sun is shining!

skiing 1:23:00 [2]

The sun popped out in time for afternoon activities. Spring skiing conditions for the first time this season.

run 58:00 [3]

Snowshoe trails--a little slippery in spots where the sun was able to glaze certain sections. Felt great to be running with a little up, a little down.

skiing 2:18:00 [2]

Super nice day out--mild, sunny, with occasionally strong winds out of the west. Lots of wee skiers out and other skiers as well, including racer X8A7, who pulled into the parking lot just after I did. We skied together at a pace that was fine for me; no doubt it helped a bunch that he had done intervals yesterday.

run 1:06:00 [3]

Late afternoon run on mix of firm snow (mostly), some slush, a little ice here and there, a bit of drive pavement, and even some terra firma. Perfect!

run 48:00 [2]

skiing 1:48:00 [2]

Near 100% sun today, with some decent westerlies helping boost the temps into the low 20's. The valley is still totally covered in snow.

skiing 1:15:00 [3]

Slightly warmer, and the snow was slightly older, meaning my skis had a little more glide today. But it was not near as warm up on the trails as the forecasts had led me to believe. Some fresh air streaming across the parking lot and into the woods only enhanced the un-warm effect.

run 38:00 [3]

A chill run right after sunset, and for about as long as the light lasted.

Wednesday Feb 9, 2011 #

skiing 1:23:00 [2]

Crisp with more new snow. A little too cold for my skis, though it was close.

run 45:00 [3]

-9F, which was almost, but not quite, enough to keep me from beginning to sweat. Imagined what it was like in Laredo today.

Tuesday Feb 8, 2011 #

skiing 43:00 [1]

Quite chilly, despite sunshine.

skiing 39:00 [2]

skiing 1:59:00 [3]

Not sure why I doubled up on skiing today instead of running, but that's the way it went. And now? And now there is an absolutely raging blizzard going on outside. Classic SE Wyoming winter weather.

I have already heard one pretty solid thump outside, and I have no idea what it was. Maybe a tree or a part of a tree went down.

Sunday Feb 6, 2011 #

run 1:13:00 [3]

Beautiful run on the snowshoe trails apres skiing!

Saturday Feb 5, 2011 #

run 47:00 [2]

skiing 1:40:00 [3]

More new snow--what a surprise!

Friday Feb 4, 2011 #

skiing 1:51:00 [3]

A little bit more new snow, and again great grooming and great conditions today!

skiing 2:05:00 [3]

There may be a few uninformed mortals out there who believe I make up all the stories about local wildlife, but of course when you live on the frontier, you don't need to make up anything at all. Right before I left to go skiing today, I sensed a ruckus outside, and when I looked out the house, this is what I saw:

From publiken

They were looking for ornamental plantings to munch, and they found them, too!

Skiing was great today. New snow, great grooming, and temps above 0. What could be better?

run 38:00 [2]

Cold, but not so bad as long as you ran into the sun. Running away from the sun, however, or ducking into shadow? Not advisable.

Legs still sore from Sunday, so actually the timing of this cold snap was fortuitous.
