Note
(rest day)

Body not feeling desperate but still could feel better. Calves are starting to suffer from recent training and no sign of a physio for a while yet i'd say. Left calf is also suffering since last Thursday's cycle, got 2 insect bites, from what i'm not sure, but bad bites.

Warming up for the 2k.

2k for IOC 2020 Virtual Relay

May have been 2k, I don't know, did start and finish the same spot but GPS went very wrong around the turn in the woods.

That was after a false start. Had around 400m ran and realised that the watch had stopped recording, so had to go again!

Calves not a fan of this. Would have liked to run faster but think this is my limit at the moment in terms of what the calves will take. They didn't react badly, could feel them every now and again, tight afterwards.

Perfect conditions for it.

Note - doing bit of distance checking, I probably ran around 7.59 for the 2k but the GPS has made a balls of things!

Trails/Road 22:17 [2] 4.03 km (5:32 / km) +29m 5:20 / km
ahr:139 max:152 shoes: New Balance 890 v8 (red)

Bit more running before breakfast. Calves complaining a small bit so didn't run any more in order to protect them.

Out and back with a bit more

Think the short laps I was doing in my 2km zone have helped with bike fitness. Not doing too badly on the flatter spins the last couple of days and on different segments. Main aim today was to get a small bit more distance done and with less effort than previous days, i.e. no killing myself on the hills. Put in a respectable effort though and was feeling grand when I got home.

Lovely day to be out on the bike, sun shining and warm.

Garda checkpoint at Lissyviggeen again but they didn't question me. Plenty of cars queuing on the Cork side to get through.

Did some thinking about where to run my 2km in the morning, have it narrowed down to 2 options.

Out and back
This might be the best option while the 5k limit is in place with variations of it.

Lovely day, bared my arms for a change and worked out fine.

Garda checkpoint at Lissyviggeen but they didn't question me either time I passed through it. Did slow me down slightly though as it's a quick stretch of road.

Tried hard on the Crosstown segment but still need to find 15 seconds. Put some effort in coming back across the the Flesk too but that segment isn't easy.

Nice spin but the headwind back from Minish was tough.

Cycling 56:57 [3] 30.15 km (1:53 / km) +220m 1:49 / km
ahr:156 max:174 shoes: Spiuk ZS11

This wasn't as long as I thought it might be. Will still need to do some loops to get an hour in, can't get a big enough loop within 5k to just do a single loop. I suppose that's what happens when lakes and a national park take up a good % of the 5k area.

Weather wasn't bad, wind from the south, could feel it at times but nothing desperate. Will give the Crosstown a hill a better go next time, for the sake of Strava.

Got some extra distance in when I got out onto the Muckross Rd at Woodlawn to be turned back by the GardaĆ, the road was closed in the Muckross direction, some incident on the bridge. So had to go back and around by Mill Road. Took off the time from the total that i was stopped talked to the Garda.

Then took in a loop of Muckross House to see if the main gate was open, it's not.

This spin had some hills but also sections where I was able to pedal more, not up or down like the laps I was doing.

Trails/Road 48:44 [3] 8.92 km (5:28 / km) +248m 4:48 / km
ahr:146 max:171 shoes: Salomon Speedcross 4

Upper Torc

Different start point but think it worked well to add some extra distance. Bit damp this morning but ok running, warmer than yesterday afternoon.

Legs do need to run less I feel. Few calf/achilles issues, nothing major, but less running will help. God knows what damage 2km fast on Sunday will do.

Met a few people in the woods, more than I normally would.

Cut my hair last night so that should help with the weight loss this week...

Walking 50:02 [2] 3.57 km (14:01 / km) +23m 13:35 / km
ahr:91 max:138 (rest day)

Taking it easy today as planned but feeling fine. April was a good month in terms of totals. The lack of races probably helped, just had to worry about training with no major efforts.

Cool today. Big change from yesterday.
