Muckross

I’ll leave it as orienteering since I did run with a map but the idea was not necessarily to keep in contact with the map but just to use it for the route which i’d pre-planned. Idea was to run in the forest, to work on terrain running/strength, and because it’s FUN.

Run went to plan and weather was nice, could have maybe done with 1 less layer. Legs happy enough in terrain.

Was surprised to meet 2 horses and a dog in the last bit of forest before the end, like me, they were exploring.

Also noticed that the track between the main road and the Upper Torc car park which is overgrown with rhododendron in places has been cut back not too long ago. Used it for a bit of the run.

Killarney-Kissanes Shop-Beaufort

Not a bad morning for a spin, got the clothes right, so wasn't cold or too hot. Plan was to not stretch myself too much for a couple of reasons, mainly lack of fitness being the reason.

Didn't quite go to plan. As I turned onto the Killorglin road a bike came from Hans Liebherr Road and headed in the same direction as me. Was behind me all the way to the Gap of Dunloe/Beaufort cross. Since the bike was behind me I didn't want it to pass me out, and succeeded in that pointless exercise. Put in a few digs on some of the ramps to see if I could increase the gap but more or less stayed the same. Think I passed the chap coming against me between Kissanes and Beaufort.

That motivated me to keep the intensity consistent on the way back into Killarney but I found the stretch between Fossa & Ballydowney difficult, and the Muckross Road home. Tired. And there was a headwind. So just about got the distance right as legs wouldn't have done more. Maybe could have taken on some fuel which probably would have helped.

Strange to be on the bike in January with average temperature of the spin being 10 degrees!

Back to work today :-(

Cold getting changed but once running temperatures were nice. It was a very dark evening though. No moon at all.

Legs ok but calves need some work. Probably not a bad idea to get some pyhsio soon.

HR looking a bit high again late on but not the same feeling as yesterday, felt comfortable. But it should be lower for this pace. Need to get back some fitness.

Cooked spaghetti bolognese surprise when I got home!
Found a few rashers in the fridge so added them, tasted alright.

Didn’t find it too easy early on, lack of exercise recently. Ok once warmed up but last 5 minutes were tough. HR was pretty high for a Turbo session and didn’t feel great at the same time. Tried to reduce the effort in order to get to the end of the episode. Made it but definitely feeling the recent illness, despite not being a bad one, probably had an affect.

Note
(sick) (rest day)

Definite improvement today, but no training today. Maybe tomorrow, get something on the calendar to start off 2019.

Monday - Rest
Tuesday - Bike
Wednesday - Run
Thursday - Bike
Friday - Run/Rest
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Run

A really tentative plan, will need some rest on the agenda after being ill if I do manage to get out.
