Note

A bit on the tired side today but nothing too bad. Did a good bit of work outside yesterday evening too, making the most of the weather, cut the grass and cleaned out the gutters, exciting stuff. Not the best way to recover.

Monday - Cycling
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Orienteering
Thursday - Circuits
Friday - Cycling
Saturday - Bouncing, Mary has hired a bouncy castle, might run or cycle too
Sunday - Whatever I don't do on Saturday

Cycling 59:10 [3] 33.36 km (1:46 / km) +167m 1:44 / km
shoes: Spiuk ZS11

Definitely some effort put in this evening, reflected in the average speed.

Was wondering which way the wind was blowing, and my worst fears were realised in Fossa when I saw some flags flying. Had a tailwind on the way out, so was going to have to face it on the way home.

Main effort I put in was up from the bridge near Dunloe Castle. Then kept it going to Beaufort.

Got lucky with the temporary traffic lights after Beaufort Bridge. But found the going tough to the top of the hill into the wind. After that I made alright time on the way back.

Orienteering race 52:14 [4] ***** 8.95 km (5:50 / km) +14m 5:48 / km
27c shoes: Inov8 X-Talon (Yellow)

Rossbeigh Orienteering

Started out ok, knew where I wanted to attack the 1st control from but the last section was a bit on the rough side, same with getting away from the control.

More rough stuff to 5, which I missed to the right of it. Very tough going across to 6. Met my dad here as I punched the control in front of someone else, said something to the other person about me almost taking them out, the cheek! It's not like it's a race or anything.

Got to open the legs a small bit for the next couple of controls on the beach. 9 had some more rough running near the control. Lost some time to 10, veered too far right and then climbed high, control was low. Got a bit distracted by a few lads to my left on the way to 11 but stuck to my line, and hit the control spot on, was hard to see in the grass too.

Maybe not the cleanest to 12, hard to read the map.

Next few controls were grand. Considered the left option to 19, but went right following the unmarked path that I knew exists, used it earlier. Worked out very well as it led me onto the yellow and straight into the control. Again to 20 there were options, right, left or straight. I went right and followed a small path that ended up at 4, so I cut across from there. The straight line would have been very tough. Left going straight out to the beach and cutting back in might have been the best route.

Lost a few seconds on 21 by stopping early.

Then 22 was rough to get to and was a bit further than I expected. Also found it rough getting to 23. After that it was just a run around the southern part of the map.

Happy with how the legs felt running, no issues. Treated them to a short paddle in the sea afterwards too. A few waves going so not the easiest of treatments.

Note
(rest day)

Ended up having a rest day. Not a bad option considering the horrific weather. Did some shopping in Tralee, got a step ladder, think next thing I think I'll get is a wheelbarrow but could probably wait until 2018 for it.

Felt really really tired after lunch. Maybe a few nights of bad sleep caught up with me.

Also discovered when stretching later on that left Achilles is sore to touch, probably not a good thing.

Muckross

On the trails mostly by the lake coming home through the arboretum and the abbey.

Lovely evening to be out running.

Legs felt ok again, nothing of note, but keeping the pace slow. Getting more used to the slower pace.

It's culture night and found out about an event close by that we are going to go to later, not the trad music event in muckross school house but a film showing in the inec, Young Offenders. Funny film.

Circuits 49:32 [3]
shoes: Adidas Supernova Black (2015)

3 circuits of 40 seconds on with 10 seconds recovery for 2 rounds and 20 for the last. With usual core stuff in between. Easier this week with the abs broken up. A few different exercises.

Upper body really suffered last week so hoping to recover faster or else not have to recover at all.

Turbo Trainer 54:51 [2]

Avg Cadence = 93rpm

Narcos S01 E01

Heard this is good and had 1 episode downloaded. I've a lot I want to watch this winter, maybe i'll have to get an hour in a few mornings a week!

Tough for the last 20 minutes. Training room which I eventually used this evening was warm. Totally soaked when I got off the bike.

Was dry in Tralee when I left work but not dry in Killarney, hence the turbo trainer.

Knockreer

Another easy paced run around the national park. Plenty of runner about. Was not impressed when one of them passed me out, particularly when it was the auctioneer from buying the house. I'm definitely faster than him!

Legs felt ok.

Put a few trails and grass into the route, for both distance and helping the legs.

Bit of drizzle but not too bad of a run. More rain forecast tomorrow so did some prep on the turbo in case i'm forced indoors.
