Kilmallock 2017

GPS seems to have cut out after bike hit a hole after about 9km. Time kept going, and GPS was fine again afterwards, so not sure why it would cut out completely. Climb was recorded since that's barometric on the Edge.

Headwind on the way out with the bunch moving at a slow enough pace. A small group formed off the front after around 5km. The loose chippings before Ardpatrick were alright. Then decided to bridge across! Made it just before Ardpatrick, thankfully, as the climb increased then. Group worked well on the climb, chap from Clontarf, Limerick and Cork County. The Cork County lad not working as much as the other two.

The lads weren't as strong on the climb through Ballyorgan, it's tough. So I was just off the front of them when a Blarney lad came through so I stuck to his wheel. Shortly afterwards the large main group caught up. I did some work on the front after Kilfinnane, and a lot once back heading uphill again. But even though I was on the front I wasn't pushing, so trying to recover while on the front.

Again through Ballyorgan the Blarney lad pushed the climb, I went with him but the group despite losing maybe a few was still very big. Wasn't too pushed on sprinting so stayed at the back all the way home although moved a bit closer to the front in the last few km but didn't sprint.

Legs felt good for the race but don't think apart from during the break that I exerted myself too much. The break was fun while it lasted but as for the rest of the race it wasn't that interesting.

With John Power out to see if the A3s were coming back. Interesting stories from a marshall, but headed back before they arrived.

Minish-Crosstown-Woodlawn

Easy spin ahead of racing tomorrow. Was thinking of doing more, a loop around Coolcaslagh to Tiernaboul but had the idea of cycling into town to meet Mary for lunch, made sense since there was racing on today.

Legs feeling fine.

Humid morning. But grass too damp when I got home to start cutting it, maybe later.
12 PM

Cycling 16:39 [2] 7.0 km (2:23 / km) +16m 2:21 / km
shoes: Spiuk ZS11

Looks like GPS wasn't tracking when I started, lost a maybe 2km.

Did avoid some traffic as intended. Busy with the races on. Garda at the top of Ross Road controlling the junction.

Then Mary was ahead of schedule so my stroll downtown ended up being faster than intended.

Home from town

Got stuck at the Dromhall for a moment, seems a bus and a car might have touched unnecessarily, minor touch.

Nice and handy spin home. Felt like a headwind too to get home.

Glenflesk-Barraduff-Annablaha-Kilcummin-Glebe-Killarney

Roads a bit damp north of Barraduff but I didn't see rain until a light shower on the descent back into Killarney on the main road. Only got a small bit of a sprinkling but didn't find it pleasant.

Happyish with the spin, legs not great, but not too bothered. Still got the average back up towards the end of the spin.

Did lose some time stuck behind a lorry coming down the hill to the Cork road from Lough Guitane. So a few seconds lost there. Moving time I corrected time by was only about 20 seconds, rekon it should be more though.

Easy day tomorrow and definitely racing on Sunday I reckon.

Out a bit later, dentist again for a quick mouth check. All alright but back again in a couple of weeks to make sure whatever they are checking on has cleared up.

Legs felt a bit off this evening despite the few days off. No calf troubles though, didn't feel it. Need to get some stretching done.

Plenty of bikes about. A few lads on the way out to Fossa were an excellent carrot, and had to work to pass them.

Wind felt like it was all over the place.

Note
(rest day)

Decided that sore legs needed to be rested rather than tortured. Physio did warn that i'd feel them today, and I did, but not that bad.

Instead of training did some cooking! Made a cauliflower crust pizza followed by rhubarb crumble for dessert. Very filling.

Physio 1:00:00 [0]

This was not a fun hour, and I suspect the other hour that I need of physio will hurt too next week.

Decision made, Dingle is a no go for me.

Calf is not in good shape and Achilles is also in a spot of bother. Will focus on getting right for SHI.

Not sure physio was too impressed when I mentioned a cycling race on Sunday. It is a bit of a spin to Kilmallock so maybe i'll reconsider.

Feck the calf anyway.

Note
(rest day)

Start of another week, this was to be last training week ahead of a taper for Dingle but reckon that once I see physio tomorrow I will make the decision to not do Dingle. I really can't trust my legs to survive 5k, not to mind 21k.

Monday - Rest (have to go to Cork anyway for the afternoon but will skip thoughts of doing some training)
Tuesday - Rest (Physio)
Wednesday - Bike
Thursday - Bike
Friday - Bike
Saturday - Bike
Sunday - Bike (race)

I've lots of bike in the plan since I can't be positive about tomorrow, and even if it goes alright, the results of running are pissing me off.

That being said i've a voucher that I must decided whether or not to spend this evening on new running (racers) shoes this evening!
