Inishbofin

Good start to the few days on the island. Weather cleared, still grey skies, but dry for the run.

Myself and Neil did a loop around the coast from the house. Kind of ended up back very close to the house, could say by design, but more by luck. Did want to go in the direction we went but thought we'd hit the road further west.

Lovely running. Great place for a run. So nice and fast underfoot. Bit of marsh but mostly avoided it.

Also nice scenery along the coast.

Humid day and nice for a cycle.

Happy with today's effort. Legs felt tired early on so was wondering how they'd react on the Ladies View Climb, but they warmed up and climb felt easier than last week. That's reflected in a 10 second faster climb today. Steady pace with better concentration.

Along by the lake I could see traffic being held up and spotted 2 bikes up the road so that encouraged me along here and up the next ramp to the Sheep place. Caught the 2 lads after the narrow section of road. A couple of Chain Gang lads, had passed the fast Chain Gang crew coming against me as I climbed up Ladies View. Noticed that one of the lads was Tomás so slowed to chat to him for a minute, then kicked on to the top.

Stopped for a couple of minutes waiting for Tomás to arrive. Chatted to him again before starting the descent home.

Figured out a link for access to GPS tracking for WOC Relay.
And when Leg 2 starts change the 1 to 2 and for the women later I suspect switching the M for a W will work then.

Over to the start with a small detour.
Wearing aero-suit for the 1st time. Tight fit!
When on I was wondering what would happen if I needed a call of nature, which I did. So that's why there is a 2nd zip!

Tralee Round of 2017 County League

This was a fast race. Group worked well all the way to Castleisland, a few taking turns on the front including myself, tough going as the pace was high.

Then onto the climb the Tralee lads, of which there were a lot in the A4 group were conspicuous in their absence at this stage. So I did a small bit along with the couple of other non Tralee cyclists.

After turning off the main road the Valley Wheelers chap made an attack which I chased down. This hurt an awful lot. Once back on his wheel, after brining the rest with me, it took me a good bit to recover, pretty much the rest of the climb. Went back on the front for a few turns on the descent to Reanagowan. I discovered too that the group was bigger than I thought it was, hadn't been checking, and not many had dropped off.

Time updates were around 4 minutes to the scratch group in Castleisland but it had dropped to around 2 minutes at Reanagowan. So at this stage there was a good chance of staying away.

Kept towards the front after Reanagowan, pace wasn't too fast but then increased. In the end I crossed the line 6th. A4 group stayed away again this year, it did last year too but I didn't race this event last year. Maybe could have done better, but i'm here for the fun. First bike race since last September and could feel it. Tough effort.

I do prefer the smaller groups you get in the league races, much easier to manoeuvre in.

Cycling warm up/down 17:43 [3] 8.71 km (2:02 / km) +43m 1:59 / km
shoes: Spiuk ZS11

Narrow road to get back down the hill to the car. Glad i'd the road to myself.
A few lumps to get over too on the way back which the legs didn't like, they are definitely tired.

Lough Guitane-Barraduff-Anablaha-Tiernaboul-Bypas

Day off so early start to allow for maximum recovery before racing tomorrow night. Thought it would be a sunnier day, it arrived during the afternoon, but a humid morning.

Really didn't feel too good on the bike at all today, legs felt sluggish and tired. Not sure why.

Original plan was to put a few more hills into the route but decided to turn back towards Killarney at Anablaha rather than heading over the roller coaster that is the road to Kilcummin. Added in the bypass for a few extra kilometres.

Nearly had a run in with a lorry too on my way home. I was cycling along by the shop and it decided to pull out in front of my so had to brake avoiding it's trailer coming out onto the road. Bollocks of a driver!

Moving time on Garminconnect is 1.19.30, but don't think I was stopped for 5 minutes. Did have some red lights in Killarney but no way I was stationery for that amount of time so won't adjust time today.

Trails/Road 44:52 [3] 9.48 km (4:44 / km) +61m 4:35 / km
shoes: Brooks Ghost 9

Usual lap with a short extension.

Calves felt fine but felt right Achilles near the end. It's got a few days of no running to look forward to so can work on it until Sunday.

Humid evening, as a result lots of insects about.

Was feeling very tired yesterday evening when I got home. I'm assuming after training twice on Sunday. Feeling ok today though.

Also think I've pretty much finished a map of Tralee Town Park.

Note
(rest day)

Legs not feeling as bad today or yesterday in terms of calf/achilles issues than what I thought was going to be the case after parkrun on Saturday, so feeling a bit more positive towards running this week. Had thought a long run might be a good idea for this week so that could be an option for Wednesday if Tuesday run goes ok.

Monday - Rest (mapping, need to get map finished)
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Cycling (day off so will go for a longish spin)
Thursday - Cycling (race, county league)
Friday - Rest (work night out in Killarney)
Saturday - Cycling (should have enough running next week)
Sunday - Orienteering/Running (Inishboffin)
