Note

Had fun foam rolling last night! Have no choice but to keep inflicting that pain on myself. Best book physio for next week too. Not feeling as tired as expected after the weekend. Was tired last night though.

Lough Guitane - Baraduff

Handy enough start, but only realised why after turning for Barraduff in Glenflesk. I'd had a tailwind! So was hard enough to get over to Barraduff and up the drag out of there. But once onto the flatter road home my speed increased and got the average back to the better side of 30.

Cool enough evening after the 'heat' of last Friday/Saturday.

Calf felt a small bit better when out of the saddle today. Sore though to touch, think from the foam rolling!!!

Did see a chap pulling a wheelie case (small) with a bike on Muckoss Road yesterday afternoon. It was attached to the bike with a bicycle lock. Seemed to be making alright progress with it. He was cycling in a straight line so maybe cornering could have been trickier.

Kissanes Shop-Beaufort

Was going to get up for Club Sunday spin but felt tired after yesterday so thought a more easier spin would be better for me.

Bit cool on the bike but not much wind about. Happy enough with how I felt on the spin. Although could feel calf (right) when I got out of the saddle.

Plenty of bikes out and about.

Tour de Ballyfinnane 2017

Messed up the start, wanted to be closer to the front when it started but wasn't, chasing all the way to Castlemaine. After that it wasn't too bad pace wise. Did end up the front for a small bit. That was after the pace increased.

Kept things under control in the group up to Annascaul. Spinning a low gear. Then ended up at the front again near the top.

Pace again increased up Glean na Gealt, not all the way, but close to the end. Was a small bit off the front at the top, so had to work a bit to catch on the descent. Caught them after a couple of km. Then through Camp I was luckily at the back when a car decided to turn into the garage, could smell the rubber from the braking!

Spent more time in front coming back towards Blennerville, but pace wasn't too hectic. Was much more cautious on the approach to Farmers Bridge this year, no messing from me. When the climb started I tried to get out of the saddle for more power but could feel quads so sat back down. Stayed sitting on the way up and was happy enough with it. Then the descent was fun.

Cramped in both hamstrings getting off the bike at the finish!!! Left one was ok but right was worse. Fantastic day out on the bike, sun splitting the stones. Enjoyable day out.

shoes: Inov8 X-Talon (Yellow)

Upper Torc

Needed to break in new Inov8s as they'll be the shoes I'll be running in next week in Spain. At least I hope I'll be running. Right calf sort of managed this evening but got more uncomfortable as the run went on.

Think there's no point in running on Sunday, waste of time as no way calf would manage 15km.

Back to being depressed running. It should be something that's enjoyable but it's not when all that happens is one frustrating problem after another.

Circuits 47:33 [3]

Higher intensity this evening for a shorter time. With some core at the end of the 3 circuits.

Was warm in there this evening.

Last one for me. They were looking for people to sign up for another 10 weeks but not for me, too much for me with what lies ahead for the next couple of months.

Right calf was ok for it. Not completely comfortable but didn't affect the session.

Same type of evening as yesterday but reckon no wind this evening. Was wondering about the wind and noticed the flags outside Muckross Park were still on my way home.

This is probably the only biking session I do with any sort of effort, probably need to do some more to get into better shape, but it's an uphill session. This evening I think with better conditions than last I made a decent improvement in time, 10.32 for Ladies View. Some parts I was going ok but at other times I could have tried a bit harder. Progress.

Passed 3 bikes on the way up around Dinis but they weren't moving very fast. Met a few going against me on my way down the hill. Saluting (as per cycling manners) 2 lads after Ladies View shop on the way down was very nearly a very bad idea, went off line and came into the next corner on the wrong side of the road. Focus.

Also passed a lot of goats this evening, maybe 3/4 groups of them in different parts. On the way down there was a big billy goat close to the road on my left. Awful smell off him!

Been considering what i'd planned for this week and it's looking like i'm being tempted to change. Circuits tomorrow, forgot about it when making week's plan on Monday. Also being tempted by the cycle on Saturday, reason against it is 2 tough days ahead of next week, with reasons for it being a good weather forecast along with right calf not being great, if Sunday didn't go to plan running wise then it'd be a wasted weekend. Will mull over it some more.

Note

Did come up with what could be a very nice running route while out on the bike.

Starting from Torc or Dinis, over Old Weir Bridge and along the north side of the Long Range/Upper Lake. Probably need to go high though to avoid crap, but then going high mightn't be straightforward either. Cross back at Lord Brandons Cottage, along the Kerry Way to Derrycunnihy, then back the Old Kenmare Road to Torc.

Initial estimate of about 22-25km in length. The Kerry Way section would be grand despite the hills, but the first part could well be no mans land!

Another route for the list that i've got nowhere on yet.

Bit of a headwind on the way out. But felt like I was making alright time. Dry which was good. Think a few days of alright weather to work with.

Legs feeling better today after physio yesterday. Calf needs work but was ok on the bike.

Had the benefit of the wind coming home. Not a bad average speed.

Hitting Muckross Road on the way home I spotted a bike come out of Woodlawn, looked like they were moving at my kind of speed. So had a bit of ground to make up. Worked to catch and then tucked in for a bit after the Oaks before passing the chap out up the couple of ramps past the car park. He headed on rather than turned up my road. So no pressure for the last bit home.
