Killarney-Beaufort-Cappanalea-Glencar-Killarney

Weather definitely won today. Thought it would be nice as it was bright when I got up but when I started there was a bit of a shower for the first 20 minutes which included a few hailstones. Also a tough headwind out towards Killorglin. Found the going tough.

Dried up before Kilgobnet and the sun came out. Wanted to do 2-2.5 hours on the bike. Started to feel like a shorter spin would be a good idea as was a bit cold. So decided to head up to the Board of Works, but changed my mind and thought a detour to Cappanalea and Glencar wouldn't add that much to the spin. I was wrong, it did!

Tough climbing to Cappanalea, some long steep enough drags, along with a couple of even steeper but short digs. Descent towards Glencar was a bit tricky, narrow with grass in the middle, decided against the direct route to Glencar when I saw a wide strip of grass in the middle. Happy enough with how the climb went to Lough Acoose. Could see grey cloud to the west so was hoping to stay ahead of the weather back to Killarney. I didn't manage it.

Started off not too heavy but rain got heavier and heavier. Was doing my best to keep the pace going, which i'm happy with. The tailwind was necessary. Hands started to freeze at this stage too. Gloves had soaked through. Lot of water on the road getting into Killarney. In my mind I was thinking if I got a puncture I was in big trouble as no way i'd be able to change it with frozen hands.

The road up home was tough too, legs gone. Dried up the last few minutes though!

So ended up getting the time I wanted on the bike but with more climb than I expected and a lot wetter. Literally straight off the bike into the shower when I got home. Not easy to get the layers of clothes off with frozen hands.

Game of Thrones S06 E01
Usually start on GOT at the beginning of turbo training season but due to being injured at the start of turbo season it got postponed.

Happy with how my legs were feeling pedalling this evening. Decided I won't run until Tuesday, and work on the calf in between.

Was sitting in my class this morning in the Geography Building in UCC when out of the corner of my eye I saw someone running outside the window with a map in their hand. Then over the next few minutes I saw a few more people running around with maps. Looked like the East Cork High Performance Group were doing a sneaky training session on campus. By the speed of them there's not much to worry about ;-)

(rest day)

UCC again today.

Lecturer made reference to joshosh again this afternoon, not by name, but by sport, how his project looked at least cost path ways. We were doing raster analysis today and in the practical this afternoon.

Left calf not feeling fantastic. Did stretching and rolling. Feels better after I do that. Physio booked for Monday week.

UCC all day.

Whitechurch

Original idea was Blarney running trail but it's closed due to being muddy!

Left calf not right but didn't bother me running. Not sure what I was planning for the run, but ended up being fastish. That was helped by seeing a few people also running on the community centre lap, didn't count how many I did, ran to length of time I wanted to run for.

There was a guy in front for my last 3 laps. I was gaining on him but not by a lot. Think he must have been trying to stay ahead of me as on the 3rd lap I gained a lot more than the previous 2 so possibly he ran out of steam!

Bit of a southerly breeze but not a bad evening for running after a shitty morning.

Golf Course & Demesne

Didn't keep track of pace this evening but think I ran slightly faster than I intended. Left calf not great but didn't affect running. Think I was feeling a small bit tired towards the end but low BS likely to have influenced that too.

What an evening. Blue skies and was a lot brighter than last Tuesday. Just needed torch along the river which is shaded. The run before then was bright. Plenty of people out enjoying the weather.

Dropped phone in to get a new screen earlier, it had a close encounter with a tiled floor on Sunday afternoon, the cracks were getting annoying. It would make sense for phone shops to ask you what your alternative contact number is rather than just asking for your contact number. I realised after 3 digits that the contact number I was giving was for the phone I was leaving in the shop!!!

Note

Feeling better today than I did last Monday so that's a good start.

Monday - Turbo Trainer
Tuesday - Running
Wednesday - Running
Thursday - Rest (UCC)
Friday - Rest (UCC)
Saturday - Turbo/Running
Sunday - Running/Cycling

Wednesday is a hopeful plan, have an idea of where I want to try and run but not sure of the timings. Will run at home if main plan doesn't work out.

Note
(rest day)

Timings didn't work out to get planned turbo session done. Could probably have done something but had a few things to do. Not too bothered as a rest day isn't too bad an idea after running yesterday after being sick last week.

Plan was to do a good bit of stretching and use foam roller for a bit. Elvis started attacking my hands when I was using the foam roller so that didn't go as well as i'd planned. Did use the sliotar later too on the calf. Needs a bit of work.
