JK Relays
Ran 3rd leg in JK trophy. Plan beforehand was to take things easy, but when I was joined in the changeover pen by a number of other Irish things kinda got a bit competitive in my head, so off I went at a fair old rate of knots, with Paddy on my tail. The two CNOC teams were ahead of me, along with Focus running for GEN and Ged for 3ROC. Didn't think i'd a chance of catching any of them apart from maybe 1 of the CNOC teams. I also had to worry about Swedesport since he was still waiting to go out when I started.
Got away from Paddy on the way to the 1st control, may have slagged him as I ran passed him on they way up a hill, he has promised revenge for that one:-)
Think I ran rather cleanly today, maybe a few misses here and there but nothing like Saturday. I don't have my map, hopefully what's left of it will turn up at IOC, I may have ripped the top of it off getting it out of the bag at the start, so ran holding it together as #14 was in the torn area so needed to see where that was.
Cut in a bit early for 15 and overshot 8 a small bit. Definitely understood things better than Saturday. Surprisingly I caught up with Focus around #5, we were on different gaffles, so just behind him at the spectator control. Passed him through the urban/easy controls, different gaffle, but he had a shorter one then after that so got away.
On the way from 16-17 (last control) a lad passed me, some English fella. Thought he was running my course so upped the effort a bit so as not to lose ground. He punched the last control a second or 2 before me, then there was a slight rise as I pushed hard, then down the other side I used the momentum to get passed the lad on the line. Apologies to Faye as I kinda went through her to get to the line first. In the end it turns out the lad wasn't doing my course, but no harm in practicing a sprint finish for next weekend, just in case!
Didn't realise it at the time but I managed to pass both CNOC teams out on the course, so was pleased to finish ahead of them, so we were 3rd Irish team on the day.
