210Km Audax around Bristol. From Long ashton, cyceld to start and back so over 150 miles. Very steady pace with John, Mike Lane and his mate Brian how was strugeling on the hills a bit. Mike was going remarkably well I told John to get his name in for a 12....

Still going well on the final climb where I left the others as there was a bit off a final race to the top. went back down from the top too pick up Brian so good extra distanced. God bit of pace through town heading home as it was getting dark. a bit slower by home. Good 24 training day.

shoes: Scale

Sothern MTBO league 3. Score event around the new MTBO controlls at Ringwood forest.

Was not very organised before start took about 3 times before I got to the line ready to go. Overshot 1 as I was looking for an O flag but in practice the SI box was attached to the permant course stake, 2 ok. Missed turn for 4 so decided to get it coming back to the finish, 3, road crossing, 5 in site of someone fast (Jason Falconer) I was slowly catching heading for 8, got into 11 before them but not sure where I past him. 12, 116, 18, 19, 19, 17, 15, 14, 13, 10, 9, 7, got wet haviing to carry across stream to 6, RC back in via 4. Jason I had caught was fairly close behind me though a good bit of the middle section and got to the finish before me not having the slightly longer route to 4. I was 2 mins up though overall.

Not so good to start with legs felt heavy for first 5 minutes but go going fairly well and Jason made sure was pushing all the way.

Nice area, some good looking single track, although I was avoiding it for the biger tracks. Biger area than is on the map probobly needs doing at 1:20 000 to get everything on. Proper event later in the year should be good.

Not sure how good the gps track will be as I looked to stop recording for some of it...

Could leave him on the downs as I had a good light and he had Niels useless headlamp.... Nice session will be good once clocks change next week to have some daylight.

Bit of a warm up.

MTBO 1:13:33 [5] 15.5 km (4:45 / km) +200m 4:27 / km
shoes: Scale

First selection race and UK league round 2 at start posts.

Was a lot weter than I was expecting but realy nice day and I wore shorts and short sleaves. Warmed up fairly well bit a bit chilly, started 4 minutes off Chris BB and set out hard thinking I should catch him before the end. Small paths heading into 1 a bit indestinct so a bit cautions then slight overshoot on turn into 2 10 secs. 3 , 4 clean potentail t=route choice leg for 5 was sticking to main tracks as much as I could. Steap climb out of 6 I ended up pushing as the kids pushing there rigs up baulked me a bit. Fairly steady thought the tec=hnical bit 6-10 just trying to avoid a mistake. 11, 12 clean then I saw ChrisBB heading in for 12 as I exited it. 13 missed first track the cut up through wood on what may or may not of been the marked slow ride hit good track in re-enterant expecting controll but no sighn went right and glad to see it 50m on up hill a bit. 14 dog leged back expecting to cut through some slow to ride but it was not visable on the ground and when I stoped for a proper look at the map it did not go through Cot losses and just blasted back around the way I had come, so not the best route lost 30-60 secs? 15 16 fairly good 17 did not get on single track from star posts junction went down main track then cut 20m thought wood to single track (Had checked go anywhere was OK with planner before start) 18 19 clean 20 starting to feel a bit tired hesitant into flag. 21,22 23 good. 24 missed small path initaly and a bit more through wood to correct. a couple of stops to 25 tiring and lost myself for a bit on the map so had tp stop to get it back together. 26 hesitated as to where to turn onto dificlut to ride then decided to go onto second bit down re-enterant. Pushed as hard as posible to finish.

Realy nice area most technical I have done in the UK. Clean ride worst mistake at 14 probobly getting a bit slopy towards end when tiring. Was aware after a while that there was someone quick chacing me down was not sure how it was but we had a number of double back type legs and saw someone looking like they were gaining slowly on me a few times. Turns out it was StuartL so no issue for GB selectionhe was about 1.30 quicker than me but that's a good result considering his ability on the bike. I was probobly doing well not to get caught.

No results yet but no-one I spoke to was quicker. Killian made a right mess and did somthing like 1,2,3, 17, 18, 19 or some such, a good 3 legs out of order corected himself but right out of it of course. Was aparently quicker than Andy C and Windy but not sure how much. Did not realy have time to hang aroung with WNL to come.

No GPX as I was riding fully race light seeing as how close things had been at Staford.

Results out I was second to Stuart with Alan 2 mins back in third. The stupid 7% rule for selection looks to of caught everyone else as Windy was 4th 6 mins back off Alan and Andy even further back.

Orienteering race (Night Score) 1:03:00 [5] 8.0 km (7:53 / km) +200m 7:00 / km

Last WNL of the year, legs not too good especialy at the start, tom came flying past early on. think I had a fairly good route for my speed on the night. 2 or 3 minutes of issues then towards the end I decided I would do 25 and around the fence for 12 nowing this wold have me lat but probobly not 50 points lat so worth it. Unfortunatly I failed to find 12 so probobly lost out in the end. Aparently 30-40 points off Tom and Pete James sdo not so bad but Mark B and Kieth aparently got more but I am not sure how much.

End of the night season 15 events so not so bad. only trophy I picked up was the one for best Atendance with Tom taking a good win in the overall and the handicap.

Note
weight:77kg

Weighd myselft this morning which explains the slugishness and strugeling up hills. 4-5kg over where I should be and 10% over my real racing weight. I which I knew what I was when I won the mountain trail because that was real racing weight as can clearly be seen by the finishing picture where I look like a real international distance athlete.

No more scones for half my lunch and will have to stop Mark buying hot cross buns at work.

Orienteering race 1:18:59 [5] 12.1 km (6:32 / km) +425m 5:33 / km

Sothern Champs Hambeldon. Set off steadily as a long course compared to what I have been doing. Lost a good minute on 4 taking a stupid route down and west. Probobly lost time on 6 taking northen path route, need to see splits. 30s on 10 a bit south. Saw Richard Barret while looping around 11 to 12 recon he had cought about 8 of the 12 minutes he started behind me. Long leg 12-13 went way east of the line to come in across the parking filed, basicaly missing out one of the climbs at the expence of a good bit of distance. Very pleased with my finish going good and hard and no sign of Richard till a couple of minutes after I was in. 10 minutes down in 4th but good enough to keep the southern trophy I had from last year.

Westbury. mikes groupe were doing the loop I get niggles on so was looking for someone else to go out with. Went with Niel and the lads to the Halls hill we used to use 5 years back. The younger ones were doing shorter reps than I wanted so I ended up doing the old rep we used to do with just Felix for compaly as Neil wanted him to do longer and more...

I foolishly tried to keep close on the first rep and went way to fast, stoped at old normal stoping point in 1.25 Feilix carred on another 50+ meters out of sight. I could not of kept up with Felix 10 years back when I was setting my PB's on the road so trying to stay close now was just suisidal. and is shoed. 1.31, 1.31, 1.35, 1.37, 1.41, 1.41, 1.41

Hard session but Felix would give Cranny a run for his money on hill reps so my trying to keep up was not so clever.

Event: Wentwood 50

Note

Anna won her first race as a Pro yesterday so those ocasions during the winter when I have been killing myself to hang onto her wheel have been doing her some good as well.

Amazing that she only started cyceling with the Seven 2 winters back.

Easy spin in the sun around the W2 at Afan. Little while since I rode the blur forgoten how upright it is compared to my other bikes. Had trouble wiith the seat sliding down, had to stop and pull it up a couple of times.

A bit tricky at the end some bits directly into the sun making it hard to see the trail well.

ITW.

Suffered the fairly inevitable comuting problem today and got knocked off. Just down the road from home the traffic was qued up as normal and I was going around the outside of the single file line of cars when a car I an just comming up to pulls out quickly (looking to get to the two lane bit at the roundabout to go right) with no indicating and clearly no look in the mirror. I saw him comming but had no real room to manuvour I fended the car off with an arm for a bit but I think the handlebars then got knocked and I went over the bars onto the deck.

Just a grazed hip no real damage done. Bike seams ok. I think the driver was in more shock than me, I had at least seen him comming.
