Cycling 1:05:39 [2] 23.9 km (21.8 kph) +150m
shoes: Charge Mixer

ITW. legs feeling destinctly heavy then I realised I had forgoten the keys again.... so double the normal with back home again. Found my way onto Hampton road today but that was fairly busy and narrow with cars parked both sides so I had to stop twice as people waited to turn. Then some bits of climb to get to the top of woodland road. All in all I think I will stick to Whiteladies.

Mikes group. They set off too quickly for me no chance to get into it very stiff. I was dropping to the back as we went down around Belbarn and then they went up to the downs and I realy strugled up the hill could not even keep up with Matt Lavis and he is 2 stone over weight... Took a big shortcut across the grass as they looped around to the watertower and down to the Whitetree RB. Called it a day there and cam back by myself afer a good stretch. More stretching when back.

I will have to go with Wendys group like Phil next time as they aparently start more sencibly pace wise.

Severn Sunday run from Warmley. Just Graham, Niel a new guy Paul and myself. Never realy feeling on fom, took it steady trying to conserve energy just to get around which I just about did. It helped that Niel was also suffering a bit compared to normal.

Gps file a bit small so undoubtedly missing a big chunk....

SRC Saturday run. A bit chilly, only 8 out but Chris and Anna with tweo of her mates as well as the young Welsh lad James how is rather usefull. Along the Severn valley the Bearkley, Silimbridge but up Old Down hill the girls all remembered it with having done the race that gose up it every lap. Relativlly fast out but into a stiff breaze so not so bad sheltering in the wheel. Up towards Dursley and on the hilly route to Wooton. I took this relativly easaly waiting for the guy strugeling at the back. Cafe stop in Wooton for Chris the girls James and myself. Then the Chriss and Anna train back home. Was hanging on hard in 4th spot behind Matt. Almost all blew to pieces when Matt went to take a spot on the front but Chriss gave hime some coaching on how to go to the front. Almost lost it about a km before Irorn Acton when a gap apeared and niether of the girls behind was able to help but I just about got back on and the front eased off just a bit so I could stick there.

Work to Coumb dingle for westbury training then on home. A bit colder than of late and a bit of a nasty wind heading back with tired legs. Got into 24 hour mode for a bit.

Westbury Intervals. 8 * 600m loop around Glenavon flat up down little up to finish. 2.02, 2.02, 2.01, 2.00, 2.00 1.59, 1.57, 1.55. Just a bit easy initaly as buttock a bit tight but loosent off ok. Being pushed a bit by one guy normaly a couple of seconds back but clearly trying on occasions especialy the 7th rep. Then come the last one some other bloke sprinted off from the start, just kept same sort of pace but he was comming back on the last hill to the finish so just had him by the end. I don't know why people don't try properly on effort sessions, this guy must of been 10 seconds quicker on this last one...

Bok trainingg from Thornbury. Just Dave Palmer Pete and myself running. Dave found us another new route with some dark lanes. Off road bits towards the end were good.

Interesting bit of conversation in the Pub afterwards with Clive and Jackie. Clive is not exactly your best role model for training and Michael would probobly improve with more than one run a week like Clive.

Severn Sunday run. Only 6 out. Chepstow, Caldicot, Undy, Magnor, Road up over A449 and past celtic manor golf course. down tghough Caerleon, Usk. Was not feeling briliant but OK along the flat. Did not try and stay with quick ones up hill past celltic manor. but quicker than Graham and Ben. Felt hard to Usk especialy after I was on the front for half a mile. From usk old road to Raglan but I was off the back as soon as it went up hill. Decided to call it a day and turned around and headed straight back at a very steady pace. Realy strugeling heading home just no power at all in the legs.

Cycling warm up/down (MTB) 20:00 [2] 5.0 km (15.0 kph)
shoes: Scale

15 warm up and 5 warm down.

MTBO race 39:04 [5] 10.3 km (3:48 / km) +20m 3:45 / km
shoes: Scale

Hurn Forrest MTBO. My standard 2nd place, 35 seconds off Stodge.

Legs feeling heavy warming up but no good reasoon for it. Fairly cleen nav, slight overshoot on 4 10-15 secs. ost about 20 seconds on eastern route to 5 compared to Stodges western. back close stodge at 9 where I gained 30 seconds on the more direct smaller paths route to stodges big tracks fuurther around. Loosing about 3-5 secods a leg from here on in to Stodge. Just not going quite fast enough. Probobly lost 30 seconds on last controll but the same as Stodge) as the track to the north of it was obscured by the red line to the finish this realy should of been off set left or right. I assumed it was on a dead end and had to aproach from the south which was a good little bit longer than going though the finish. Once there you could see that the path went straight to the finish.
4 PM

Note

Upper back right shoulder aching. Been feeling it since Thursday morning. Took IBP before MTBO and had no trouble with it but was aching worse than before driving home...
6 PM

Orienteering race (Night Score) 59:42 [5] 7.0 km (8:32 / km) +250m 7:14 / km

WNL Wentwood.
11, 17, 26, 7, 23, 6, 12, 25, 9, 18, 21, 27, 19, 15, 8, 13, 24, 10, 22, 16, 14, 2, 1. so missing 28, 20, 3, 4, 5
Far too scrappy with the nav. messy sorting out route and finding right path at start. 23 lost 60-90 secs zig-zaging around. 9 about 90 secs confused by indistinct path in guly when looking foor gully. was correct but then wheent back and ran up path just in case it was gully... 27 managed to end up on bottom path 60 secs. 8 not corect relative to path junction 30 secs then extra paths up to 13 but ignored them OK. 14 just went in from unknowen point on fence would of been far better going via 3 and then fence corner attackpoint which I eventualy found it from. 90 secs.

With a clean run geting them all would of been just about posible for me.

ran through some good bits of open wood. far western part was wel brashed though.

Bok club night. MarkS in charge. 4 sprint courses with a man made maze. racing opposit directions head to head with MattF. He beat me by between 15 and 30 seconds every time. The maze got harder the more I did it. not sure if this was being more knackered or having more3 controlls in it towards the end. was DQ'd the list time when I got the numbers mixed up.
6.00 for 3. 5.41 for 1. 6.33 for 4 and I think 7.28 for 2 where I mest up the maze but lost the printout.

CSC Longleat. A bit of a running course but I still made a few stupid little errors that I should not of. 5 went west of fence which was way slower 45-60 seconds lost. 12 a bit of a hesitation slightly too far north 15 secs. 15 somthing a bit funny maping I think stoped too short and looped back then back again and carried on as fairly sure I had seen most of the slope. 1.5 mins? A bit scrappy down to crossing point from 16 15 secs?

Always felt I should be running quicker but the legs just want do it and the ride yesterday left them a bit jaded.

Severn Saturday run. 11 at start but Matt turned back quicky still not recovered from his off last Sunday. John T turned back as we aproached Wooton having been working hard to stay on the back, as we were doing 25mph+. we went to Bradely Green then up the sunken lane right then left up old London road. We lost Aidan somewhere here. I was going very well up the hill just a bit back off Chris Madge and the visiting Simon Rouse but infront of Alan G. and Anna. Then on to Nailsworthy realy quick down the hill with the tail wind. Up the W road to Minchinhampton Common where I somehow found myself on the front at the top although Chris thretend to come around. Through Minchinhampton, Avening, Tetbury where 6 of us stoped for coffee and cake. Now the hard slog home into the wind through Leighterton then onto the A46 where Chris and Anna shared the front doing an amazing job into the wind for far further than I would of gone to A432 down to Chipping sodbury. The rest of us were all just hanging on to our positions in the line.

Probobly a bit hard for the CSC tomorrow but a very good outing and the climbing was very pleasing.

Severn Sunday club run. Some icy bits as I went slowly over to Warmly meeting point. 6 people out with Niel (V50 National hill climb champion) out for the first time this year. Not a cloud in the sky. There was a car in the hedge going up the big hill on the A420 but not to bad climbing so long as you did not try standing up. Was feeling fairly heavy leged up the hill way off Niel. After Mangotsfield the guy how races 2nd cat for Fred baker got on the front and we were doing 45+ Kmph as we went over the worst Ice so far but befor you sliped much you were off it. Unfortunaltly this speed ment we were in two groupes of three. We stoped at the Ivy house turn to wait but the others had not turned up after 10 minutes so decided to carry on, although the fast man said he was going to head back sticking to the main road.

So just myself and Ben carried on. Next 3 miles were by far the worst for ice and fairly entertaining but neither of us fell off or resorted to walking. A reasonale pace on to Wooton Basset some more bad Ice up the hill to Lynam. Then turned for home and descovered the cause of the fast going before as there was a noticabgle head wind all the way back. we switshed the lead initaly but Ben started to stufer even more than me so I lead all the way back from Luckington was very slow going up past Todmarton. Fairly well done in by the time I got home.

I rang Graham and found out that Matt Burbridge had come off on the dodgy icy bit so the others had called it a day there. I think Matt was just a bit grazed and shaken up but nothing he want recover from in a week or two.

GPX file not too good kept loosing the fix then stoped all together at the end. I suspect a bad solder joint on the power feed. Also the HRM failed to work will check the battery as the Ant+ radio was working for the bike sensors.

Note

No Saturday ride as I wait for AA to come and take the van to the Garage this morning. Organised a lift with Mark Blackstone to the night event so that's good.

WNL the Kidnals. Some rather bad Brambles and big slipery hills as well as some felling causing trouble.

26, 17, 13, 27, 19, 21, 28, 15, 25, 9, 1, 12, 22, 10, 14, 20, 3, 23, 11, 2, 18.
3.52 to finish from 18 which is fairly good for about 900m initaly in terain.

Not sure about the route and when I did 25 and 9. should probobly of done them early 15-25 was 300m steep down hill and it took me 5 minutes... maybe also should of done the east half first...

479 I think but probobly 40 or so points less than Tom Gibbs.

ITW Guessing time. First time in in torential rain. fairly plesant untill about half way when the suposedly waterproof gloves started getting my thumbs wet and gradulay most of my thingers as well.

HFW. Not a straight forward trip. In the garage the bike computer was not responding... I tried to force a reset by shorting the reset pin on the programing header to vcc but probobly shorted gnd to vcc and may of screwed the voltage regulator, anyway it was not working and as it powers my rear light I had not rear light. Walked up to the bike shop 400m away but it had shut just before I got there. headed for home slowly trying to make my way on small roads by instinct. Came out by the Arches were maplins was Open. They had a bike light set for £10 so got that and fitted the rear light. carried on for home up the A38. By the time I was down at the red traffic light under the underpass I looked back to check how good the light was and I just have a clamp but no light!!!! I have managed to lose it in about 4 miles.... Just carred on home as normal.

I have a pair of expensive clamps but I may be abkle to use one to improve my map board.

A bad day.....

Drove over to Tescos to do my weekly shop. Just befor the roundabout at the exit to tescs heading home I lost all power in the van... Pulled over and it would not start. Rang the AA 'will be there in under an hour' rang back after 1.5 hours. 'will find out whats going on and ring you back' Half an hour latter no call back so packed the frozen food (I was stocking back up) into small rucksack two other bags and set off walking home. Half way home get a call from the man coming out to me saying he is 15 minutes away. walk fast and run bits to get home as quick as possible sweating like a pig as I have my down jacket and cag on as it's damp.

Pack food into freezer and fridge then jump on the Mixer and sprint back to the van where the man is waiting.

Man says Imobiliser not going off. Quick drive home and back to get the spair key no luck. Try disconecting ther battery no luck. Check on his database of faults nothing so I am stuffed. Get towed home for midnight.

Will have to ring Garage in the morning and probobly end up getting the AA to tow the van on in there unless they have any tricks to try. Will probobly miss the Saturday ride as a result and will have to work out how I am going to get to the night event...

Glad to have my supper and a beer at 12.30...

ITW on the mixer.

Lots of traffic light stopages. Bike felt good, could not tell the difference between the netral gear and the others so no noticable drag. Not quite as spritly feeling as the Scale with slicks on but It would be hard to beat the scale in this guise I have not riden all my continental road miles on it because it's no good at it. Just about enough gears was down to bottom going up the filton hill but did not nead any lower and would of bean OK in second if I had not just been spinning it along but pushing on a bit. A bit harsh over the bumps compared to the scale with the front falk and bigger rubber but a lot better and more solid fealing than the road bike.

Westbury mikes group. Belbarn road 1km loop I have times loged here for this from a number of times. 5 loops started relativly slowly and just kept getting faster and faster. 3.48, 3.42, 3.34, 3.28, 3.22. propoerly collapsed on the pavment after the last one. Not very consistant but better than I was expecting. Found these times from the last time I did 5 sets 3.34, 3.32, 3.30, 3.28, 2.28. When I just did two after getting back from the summer trip they were 3.43 so I think my speed is not too bad at all when I try and push it.

To Westbury training and then back home. Got into top gear coming back down from the Downs about 50kmph. Had to stand up in bottom going up past the Mouse out of Westbury on the way home but then I have to stand up on the Scale or use the granny ring.

Note

Working from home today waiting for my new comuter bike to be delivered. Came at tea time so not much work done after that. Took a long time getting the mudgaurds on and then setting it up for the bike computer as I had to solder up some cables for the wheel sensor and the rear led flasher. Managed to fit an unused frame bag and found a spair but heavy multi tool and puncture repair kit. Fitted bottle cage with pump holder. Pedals are old Caddy eggbeaters I won the Manchester rat race with after having to buy them on the morning of the race after breaking the regular ones. Will probobly have to buy some alternatives as the bearings are fairly shot and none servicable.

Will see how it rides properly tomorrow.

Severn Sunday run. A big groupe out with 14. A good decent pace but never realy too stupid eg still a groupe of 10 to the bus stop regroupe on the first hill. Split at raglan garden center where the back of the groupe went for a toilet break. I pushed on a bit for the next section across to Digistow as I was the only one realy sure of the route. Tooked in behind Luck to the bottom of the big climb. No legs up the climb well back from Luck, Matt and Anna. strugeling a bit on the way back home but so were a few others.

NGOC Score event. Did suprisingly well 2nd to Clive how cleared it I was one 10 pointer short but infront of Ben M and James C both I am sure were running quicker than me (james left me behind) so my route must of been fairly good. No real mistakes, the flags were huing rather high though so I saw a good number of them a long way off. not exactly flat out most of the way feeling a bit slow but pushed on fairly hard towards the end with a bit of time presure.
