shoes: Scale

Long circular ride with a ferry from the top of the only decent road hill I have found so a tough finish. Old road hill top above Korgen down to Elsfjord, Nyland then Remnes with a view of the severn sisters where Tom had the accident with the rock the size of a fridge landing on his toe in the AR world champs. Langfoss for lunch then Levang and Leirvika for the ferry to Hemnes Berget then back past Korgen and up the 500m climb to finish. Thought I was taking it easy but was still fealing done in after lunch. It seemed hard work all the way after that and even the break for the ferry did not help too much. Stoped about 5km from the bottom of the last climb to get my last solid food down as well. Pleased how I went up the hill at the end felt I went OK for all I was fealing knackered.

Last 48km to the end of the road at A and back. some nice senery and could see it for most of the ride dry all the way. road steady non stop all the way out to the end then came back stoping to take pictures pushed on towards the end. No computer as I managed to break one of the pins off where it attaches to the wheel sensor. Time to put a new socket in I have the parts but need to make a hole in the case but have no drill so will have to think a bit.

Loop around northern bit of Austvagoy. did not start till about 3pm as had been raining in the morning but had eventualy dried up although I had a heavy shower half way though and put on cag and overtrousers but took them off. About 15km of slow road initaly gravel then half layed tarmac waiting for the top coat so a very rough surface indead. Pushed quite hard after taking may cag off when back on the main road towards the end.

shoes: Scale

Loop around the south west peninsula of Andoya island. had been a butifull morning although very windy but was clouding over by the time I started still a lot warmer than recently short sleaved top on. Starting to drizzle by the end but just got in befor the worst of it. Pushed fairly hard as only planning the short loop and the wind was a big effect although it swung around so where I expected it with me right at the end it was back against. Had about 8km of gravel on the way out which was unexpected. Got accumpanied by a big eagle for 2 or three km. Not obviously a sea eagle like I have seen a few of may of been imature? or somthing else do they have golden eagles here? Got realy good view at one point as it was only about 20 feet overhead.

Just guessing at time as computer gave up the gost after 30km. Around a loop on Kvaloy which is the island across from Tromso. Coalder still tights on again. Big squally showers with sleet in them going though but some sun in between stiff breeze. set out just after a shower sat the first one out in a buss stop after 25km but then had to stop to put on cag and overtrousers after 30km when computer did not restart... on and off rain till about 55km where I stoped in another bus shelter for lunch. Dry on the way back from there and the sun even came out and dried the road. Just as well as I realy started to strugel for the last 20km.

There is fresh snow visable below the cloud on the hills. Very flat outing but quite a breaze so espocialy easy into the turn around and hard for the first hour back not so bad at end as changed to a cross wind. Legs better for a days rest but still not flying along would not of done to of done any more today.

Out and back to Oksfjord from the end of the fjord. a 4km tunnel along the route. Overcast but dry. still feeling fairly knackerd but a relativly flat ride. pushed a bit on the return trying to push the average speed up a little bit. Chased a pair of raindear for 2km they are as bad as sheep but go faster... Saw a bloke out on rollerskis he was doing quite a long session as past him going and comming back may of been doing the same sort of distance as I did.

Cycling (road) 5:16:22 [2] 124.8 km (23.7 kph) +1950m

Up to Nordkapp from 5km back on the mainland. It is on an island with a 6870m long tunnel connecting it to the mainland there is a further 4440m tunnel on the route. Set off better equiped than two days befor with a proper lunch of sanis and cake also had a thermal layer on and had along hat and gloves although I did not use them. Generaly overcast but imporved some by the time I got back the sun came out for a bit. Damp on the higher ground where I was in the fog. The tunnel over to the island is very interesting, the length is ok but the realy thing that makes it interesting is that it drops to 212 meters below sea level so you go in and drop sharply down have very little flat and then climb sharply back up. going onto the island it is 7-8% decent and the acent has bits at 10% so not nice at all. Lighting wise I had my double xr-e on the bars flashing at a middle level and my home made red on the back with an alternating flash also at a fairly high level but nothing like the max. On my helmet I had my ultralight mce on full wack. The flashings let the traffic have a good indication that it is a bike and the helmet light let me be sure there were no holes in front which on the return trip at 76 Kph down the dead strait hill needed a good bit of light. The two climbs back up out are fairly tough and you want to keep going fairly hard to get out to the fresh air as soon as possible also the fact that your climbing slowly at 10-12 kph and the traffics doing 70kph means you dont want to be in there for too much to pass you. When I finaly got to Nordkapp the visability was less than 50 meters (it is 300m high) and they wanted 140 kronar to go right to the end so I skiped out on that. Also saved 140 kronar each way on the toll for the tunnel.

Final just under 60km out to Berlevag and back. It's about 25km north to the coast then generaly northwest along the coast although lots of in and out bits. Realy nice senery but weather dull initaly so no pics and then it rained all the way home. Gentle northwesterly at the start but by the end it was blowing hard from the northeast. coming back up the coast into this was not at all pleaseant. Got colder than I would of liked should of taken a spair thermal and proper gloves and hat I just had my cag and overtrousers ontop of my long sleaved top and three quater length bib shorts. The man with the hammer came in some style for the last hour and a half it's a good job the wind was more behind here although the last couple of km was into it and I was realy strugeling having had to rashion the food at the end. Good job the van apeard 3km sooner than I had been thinking.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km) +50m 6:40 / km

warm up and warm down fopr Blazer. better warmup than I generaly do as havew not run for 6 days.

Running race (mixed) 26:20 [5] 6.0 km (4:23 / km) +250m 3:38 / km

Blaze. Getting on for 90 seconds slower than last month which I guess is not that suprising as I have not done much running between then and now and no intervals or quality of any sort. Had hoped for better though with a week off so well rested althiugh I guese being Uncle Ifor for 4 days is not that easy. Was back in somthing like 12th not so sure well beaten by first lady... Still in the top 6 Westbury so will of counted for the team challenge against Bitton.
