SBOC 2x2. 23 first leg a bit off on 4th not looking at compass going out 5th was in wrong place so messed around a bit in right spot then agreed with other guy there that is was wrong and setoff to next one only to see it 150m further on well out. 21 for second leg miss read numbers and went for 45 when I was meant to go for 54 probobly lost a minute only though.

Cycling (MTB) 59:00 [3] 15.0 km (15.3 kph) +300m
shoes: Blur

A lap of Cawm Carn did not think I was going that hard but did under the hour so not slow. Cleaner technicaly than I have been for a while even when it started raining and was damp for the decent. Kept it out of the grany ring apart from the stupudly steep 5 meaters over the coll.

Orienteering race 1:05:50 [3] **** 7.9 km (8:20 / km) +300m 7:00 / km
spiked:24/24c

Whiteford Burrows Brown. Feeling right groin at start so
never pushed the running hard just trying to be good technicaly which I think I was no obvious errors. Caught Chris Kelsey 4 or 5 mins at 6 but he ran away slowly till I got back past at 18 with a better route choice. Groin not noticable at end so hopefully good to push tomorrow.

Nice course Clive flew around in 53.10

Cycling (MTB) 3:00:00 [2] 40.0 km (13.3 kph) +800m
shoes: Blur

Afan MTB pen... and the Wall. Was damp and drizeling when I started at 3.30 having sat around for over an hour waiting for it to stop raining. Got a slight niggle in right groin so no pushing at all just gentely spinning up. Downs not to quick either with wet surface. By the time I got to the Wall the sun came out and it was a nice evening. Batteries managed to come out oc computer so no graph...

Blorenge reps. 12.09 up to fence with a toilet stop. 9.32 and 9.41 stoped at just the two as not going too well and the second was slower which generaly means its time to rest baybe the race on Tuesday and TT yesterday were in my leggs a bit. Was warm but I normaly cope OK with the heat.

Will see how I get on at Afan on the bike tomorrow just hope I can miss the rain after this dry week.

Cycling race (road) 24:56 [5] 16.0 km (38.5 kph) +10m
shoes: Scott RC1

Club 10. First time on road bike with tri-bar clip-ons. Good conditions wind north-east so some help out and a bit of a headwind back worst bit just at end going over motorway bridge hard to get back up to speed. Nice and warm. Tried not to push too hard on the way out and probobly got it about right although it's a good job there was not a mile more into the breeze at the end. Time may take a bit of beating.... PaulC did a 23.34.

warm up to start and warm down back from finish of Beacon batch fell race.

Running race (Fell) 35:22 [5] 8.0 km (4:25 / km) +300m 3:43 / km

Beacon Batch fell race. Off fairly steady start as normal walking up top of first bit and 2 ladies past me. Then ran hard along next section getting back past the ladies. Fast walk up the steep[ bit and kept walking longer than most recovering befor top again past by 1st woman. 14th I think at top. From top realy opened it up hard along the long flat and got back past first lady and pulled in the two infront of that on the rough bit. Good fast decent passing people including John Terry. Finished 9th and 1st V40 so got 15 cans of bear!!!! on a roll with the bear this week. Pleased with the run lots quicker than last year but | think I have done a 33 before. Looking at the old results online the best I can find is a 34.06 from 03 I may well of been quicker befor then though those are not on line. last year was a 40...

Orienteering race (Night) 1:32:14 [5] ***** 9.3 km (9:55 / km) +200m 8:57 / km
spiked:16/23c

Harvester Long night leg. Not happy with run, started well but it went down hill then I mad a big 10 min+ error when I had just caught the people in front of me by 10 miniutes.

1-4 very good following bigger land features to clos to flag.
30 seconds at 5 off line south.
6 good
7 missed just left then went left down hill and had to come back up. 2 mins
8 good
9 missed just above then went up... 2 mins should of been aiming off 7 and 9.
10-13 good picked up well at end of long leg but found it very hard through the bolders with ankle. Caute 2 people as 11-12
14 disaster I aparently got withing about 50m ok but I never picked up on the landform clos to the controll wandered around too much then decided to head west for the major path to relocate was finding big land features but could not locate them. Found path but could not make it fit ran up hill on it looking for it to start droping as a definate point but found a very distinctly shaped lake which I found on the map 500m on beyond where I should be and the path I was on was not on the map... OK going back to flag lost 12 mintes.
15 good
16 just above and went up.... 2 mins.
17-20 good
21 after the spectator controll off to west wrong side of big knoll. With light on this was imposible to see where as when spectating it all had looked obvious. 1 min
22 too high 1 min.
23 good.

Smaller error were to be expected but the big one was very disapointing. 20 mins slower than Markus Pinker within 10 would of been aceptable and would of got us back with the 3rd-4th group not 10 minutes off it...

shoes: Scott RC1

Club Saturday run. Apart from Gary and his older Son back from Uni everyone was fast eg Jerry, Roadblock and Alen Grithis... Littleton Bearkley, (Gary and son called it a day before here) Out to slimbridge RB on A38 heading for Forcester hill. At this point RB Jerry and Alen went turn about and we were 45-50kmph and droped the back two, I had to work hard to hang on the back. Luckily we regrouped for Forcester hill which I have never done. Went into it quick behind Alen and he initialy road off the front but when it steepened up I just kept spining away pushing hard and went up to him and past him suprisingly quickly. Pushed pritty flat out all the way up but Alen came back 400m from the top and I had no chance of hanging on. By far the best climbing I have done in this sort of company. Back via the back road into Wooton -20% and used to be very rough but it has been resurfaced which is a good job because roadblock still broke a spoke, he would of broken more than one with the old road. A bit more steady in after we seperated from the Thurnbury crowd after charfield hill.

Bok training The Barn Nailsea. Up though Tynisfiled and over the top and around and back. Some nice bits of wood. Was fealing terible. Young Addam Potter was out but I just could not give him any company like I was back in March. It all I could do to keep up with his mum... Hope I am not heading backwards and it was down to doing a bit too much last night. I want be going with the seniors with Westbury for a bit. weather looking dodgy tomorow so will take it easy.

kayak (Sea) 1:30:00 [2] 10.0 km (9:00 / km)

Kayak from Severn Beach up to the little island at Chepstow end of old bridge. Up with the tide then looked around the little island for 20 minutes to let the flow turn properly for the return leg. Wind got up during the trip was a little bit rough comming back with some standing waves.

First Kayak in somthing like 6 months but I need to do some if I am taking it to Scandinavia with me. Fairly easy going but did not feel to bad at the end.

Running (mixed) 1:05:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:25 / km) +200m 5:00 / km

Westbury went with my old Senior mens group for the first time in over a year. Lovers leap, iron , golf course, path below portway up to downs back past halls filed and then up valley back to blaze. Was going well early on but after 50 minutes I realised that that is as long as Tamsins group do. Was tough for the last 15 mins stiffening up in the hips had no sprint agains gloss over the filed at the end.

Cycling warm up/down (MTB) 20:00 [2] 5.0 km (15.0 kph) +70m
shoes: Scale

Warm up for British Middle mtbo champs.

MTBO race 1:12:19 [5] *** 15.0 km (4:49 / km) +200m 4:31 / km
spiked:19/24c shoes: Scale

British MTBO Middle champs. Forest was a lot slower than yesterday ride to start was on an overgrowen track that would of been imposible to follow but for the tape it involved some pushing. This was a fairly good intorduction. I was starting fairly early I ended up second finished which was not good I am sure the hard to see tracks will of become more visable with more people over them. Having said that I think the guy in front of me finished second.

My nav was fairly terible.
3 lost track and ended up carrying though wood should of simplified it .more and then would of had less junctions to find 1+min.
5. was looking at the map for 6 so wasted a good minute again making up a path in the wood where there of course was not one but there were so none visable it was very easy to make one up.
7. There realy were unmapped good pathes in here I think others had trouble. I had decided it had been pinched and was just making sure I had gone down everything before carrying on when I found it....
10. this was not on a path but on a destinct tree in open I managed to get the far side of it and was again pushing though the wood...
11. Missed a path somwhere but relocated fairly quickly did 3 sides of a square.
Was not so bad from there but was probobly loosing time over fallen trees etc I don't get myself cliped back in and going again very quickly and there was lots of on and off.

Need to see splits to see what I lost but probobly about 8 mins. winner was 62 but they will have mistakes in there as well.

Cycling warm up/down (mtb) 10:00 [2] 3.0 km (18.0 kph)

Warm up for british MTBO long champs

MTBO race 1:31:04 [5] *** 31.5 km (2:53 / km) +300m 2:46 / km
spiked:25/27c shoes: Scale

British MTBO Long. Quite warm went with just one bottle which was about right almost empty at end. Probobly started a bit slow early on. 30 second error at 6 left right trouble. probobly 2-3 mins lost at 19 where I aproched from where the path did not join up and had to come back out and go in the other side think the sircle should of been broken to make this clearer. Felt I was going realy quick on some of the longer legs where you got on a good stony track and just hamered it for a bit 9 16 24 25 come to mind. Leader was 84 so 7 mins down want to have a good look at the splits to see if I was loosing time anywhere specific. 7th I think in the end it was very tight up front. Probobly the quickest I have ever gone on the bike was realy gunning it second half. Took some time to recover after the uphill finish.

Weighed myself 11.1 which is on the ow side, near 11 is low 11 and a half stone is more typical for not to fit anything over that is high.

Hawksbury upton loop on repared Scott RC1 everything seems solid enough can not tell the differance by the feel of it. Hope it keeps on holding up will be checking regularly. My guess is that th repared tube is probobly stronger than the rest...

Went out quicker than I intended fairly sure this is a lot quicker than the last time I did the loop. Slowed up on the way home once I had admired the veiw and had a drink at the top of the hill.

Blorenge reps. First time in somthing like 24 months. Shocked how well I went I need to weigh myself tomorow morning I must be well light. First outing of year would typicaly be high 9s low 10s but I was into the 8s which I only get to when going realy well normaly. My absolute one off best was an 8.00 but that was quicker than I would do in the race even.

11.49 run all way up to fence no stopages then three reps at 8.49, 8.48 and 8.54 downs 6.49, 7.20, 17.16 to bottom. Feeling ankle a bit on downs.

Running long (Fell) 4:00:00 [2] 22.0 km (10:55 / km) +1800m 7:45 / km

Pacing Rods BG from Threlkeld to Dunmail. Rod was 3.25 on the first leg and going well. Set off at 10.30 so dark though the leg weather dry but a brisk east north-east wind mist on the ridge most of the way once up there, chilly there were bits of snow visable on Helvelan. Rod was going well we passed a group half way up the inital climb and caught Jeff Powell-Davis pacing Andrew Mitchel just by the first top went straight by running nicely along the ridge caute another group on Watsons Dodd but they were noy keeping a good line. Rod was quicker down than I espected had to keep going fairly hard to light the way with big torch I eneded up carrying in my hand most of the way due the the mist. Fairfield seamed suprisingly quick. I messed up a bit on the decent from seat-sandle and we probobly lost 5 minutes as I was too far south....

Runing OK had taken a couple of IBP befor the start and did not realy have trouble with ankle more trouble with right foot feeling a bit fragile on the rocks on Helvelan decent. A bit tired at base of fairfield due to not having eaten or drunk enough but got some jelly babies and water down and recovered quickly.

Fairly pleased with state at end this was 2 hours longer than I have run for 20 months and the only 2 hour outing was Jukola last year nothing else has been over 90 minutes. Ankle was a bit sore during the day but walking around OK.

If I am going to do the Saunders I probobly need to do some blorenge sessions to try and get some real strength in the legs. The real potential problem will be the countouring not much of a test for that on this leg.

Bad news Rod did not make it aparently he quit at Mickeldore where he was being blowen off his feet. He is a bit light weight... I suspect he got the worst of the weather on the highest peaks.

Friday Jun 5, 2009 #

Note

Was going to go on MTB in Whinlatter but it is pissing down and chilly. Just resting up and geting my lights sorted for my BG support duties over Helvelen tonight, looks like I may get a break in the rain for that bit but generaly not a good weekend for it. Hope Rod is feeling tough.

Cycling (MTB) 2:23:56 [2] 32.0 km (13.3 kph) +640m

Black run at Kirroughtree starting from far end. Early start as the van did not prove very midge proof and there were 100s inside once I had had breakfast. Took it steady not pushing to hard. I think my technical skills have gone backwards was fafing around far to often. Nice to be on some good singletrack though and the tires do not seam to drag like they do on the road. By the time I got back a breaze was blowing and I could de-midge the van.

A bit harder than the morning and then a guy passed me so I stuck behinde hime for the second half not so close as to put him off but close enough to help me technicaly.

Shamorck chace on Muckross. Not up for this psycolocicaly just never got going. I started with a 20+ min lead and the inital forest was hard on my ankle. I just never realy got going properly even when I got onto the easier quicker stuff in the second half I never realy speeded up. Lost 2 mins at 9 but apart from that OK technicaly. Looking at the results only one person looks to of gone quicker an m35 did 69.
