Danish Spring Long WRE 2

This race was always going to be fast, and it really was. In England if you don't push hard you can still do reasonably well, here if you didn't push hard you would be very close to the back of the field. Pushed hard throughout and had some company with Immanuel Berger (met him when I was in Freiburg in 2013) who was doing the WRE 1 course. The courses were not completely different so we often found ourselves running for long periods together. Only issue was just after the spectator control (punto spectaculo ;) ) where the marsh seemed to be completely in the open and there were many many more root stocks than were on the map. Didn't help that I didn't double check the control description where it said that it was actually on the end of the canal rather than a root stock... I was in the right place, maybe 10 meters away from the control, I just couldn't find it :(.

England definitely needs to get a lesson from the Danish on their root stocks. Most of them were at least 3 meters tall. It was insane!

Danish Spring Middle WRE 2

Felt really good to get into some Scandanavian forest. I was a little bit apprehensive about the 2.5m contours, but it really made the terrain a lot more readable. Made a really bad mistake at some point where the map didn't quite match the ground and there seemed to be a lot of green around (a German apparently made a mistake in the same area and was very disappointed). I did really feel like the Long would be really good for me (and it was) after I had been in the terrain a little bit.

Danish Spring Sprint

A bit disappointed with the choice of area and some of the mapping. Quite technical though and some good route choice. Lost about 30 seconds on the route to the second control, but I do think that the mapper should have made the river crossings a lot more prominent. Overall not such a bad race, just a little rusty with my sprint orienteering at the moment.
