Running (Modderfontein Parkrun) 16:53 [3] 4.9 km (3:27 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flite 195

Seemed to miss one of the small loops on the course. Terrible sign posting. At one junction (the one where I missed the loop) I had a wtf moment... Turns out that the walkers (who start further back from the runners) take the route that I took.

Brought it up with the people at the finish who conceded that the sign posting is crap...

Orienteering 21:49 [3]
shoes: Flite BW 0612

Interesting course...

Not an ideal colour for the course (purple) which meant that in the building it wasn't very readable. This was us a particular problem for us colour blind folk.

2: Misplaced control... lots of swearing.
4: First ran to 5 but then realised that it was the wrong control (couldn't see because the line between 3 and 4 wasn't cut and went straight through 5). Another misplaced control... more swearing.
7: Circle was covering all possible routechoices to the control... so it was difficult to actually determine where to enter the building.
8: Slow, struggled to see where the cliff might have been (?mapped as a wall) and then faffed around a bit.
9: Also misplaced (I think) but was very easy to see.
10: Not sure about the use of the bridge symbol. You couldn't really see if you could then get underneath it and probably would have chosen a different route choice if I knew that you could.
11: Slow while trying to work out which wall was crossable and which wasn't.
14: Control was meant to be on some stairs. We were told at the start that the control would be at a locked gate. There was no longer a locked gate there (it was now open). Luckily Alex called me back.
19: Control number perfectly covering the path up to the control... Went around on the left. Couldn't read the vegetation here so wasn't sure if it was green or flowerbed. We need to be consistent and just use the dark green (with black in it) everywhere I think.
21: Went toward 22 and then realised late so not the ideal route choice. Readability of the colours was again a problem.
24: Too high here, was a bit silly. Mind wasn't really in it at this stage and was just running for the sake of it.
26: Circle perfectly covering the best way up so a lot of hesitation working out if I could actually go that way...

So not at all a great race for me (or for many others). Might have been enough to void the course if it had mattered for the log or was SA sprint champs, but that really sucks for the mapper and planner who has put in a lot of work.

Nice new map and hopefully we will put it to good use in the future.
