Orienteering 20:04 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

Did not have a good race as I had started to suffer from really bad dehydration. Raced anyway because I would have felt terrible had I missed it. Just don't particularly like people then asking "what happened?"

1) Tried to approach it from the south side. Turned out that you couldn't so had to go around. 10 seconds.
2) Went down the wrong path to the north and realised late. 1 minute
3) Not sure which is faster, but I assume coming from the bottom (I went in from the top)
6) Went along the walkway which was not as fast as going straight up. (25 seconds). Also tried to go in too early, so was messing around a bit before I saw the path (made by everyone else). (10 seconds)
7) Found a rather impregnable plant, had to go around to get through (5 seconds)
8) Bit of trouble getting to the exact ditch, tried to stick to the fence and go down but the vegetation was quite thick here. 5 seconds
12) Ended up going from the top instead of from the bottom, silly extra distance. 10 seconds
14) Could have gone to the north up the area with the scattered trees. Lost around 20 seconds going south.
16) Went to the tea garden instead of the other building because of a stupid exit angle. Lost about 1 minute.
18) Could have gone down the scattered trees and then into the clearing and onto the path just to the west of 18. Could have saved 5-10 seconds. Just couldn't read the vegetation anywhere on the map.
19) Should have gone high I think, cutting through the vegetation.
21) Started to go down after exiting 20. Lost 5 seconds

Lost around 3 and a half minutes.

Orienteering (Langkloof) 1:40:15 [3]
shoes: Inov8 oroc 280

3) Bad mistake where I ended up close to 4. Took time to relocate. There seemed to be a lot more open in this area and it was particularly difficult to read. (2-3 minutes)
6) Control was slightly hidden so lost some time even though I was on the right feature (20 seconds)
8) Slowed down a lot as I didn't want to miss it. Lost maybe a minute checking every crag....
11) Crossed the road running north-south without checking my compass (thought that it was the road eas-west. Started running and ended up in the open areas just before the road where I realised what I had done (as I crossed the road again) and had to correct. Found Joystein Tellnes here as he was messing around and I punched and quickly ran off. (Not great as we had been together at 9 and 10). Lost maybe 1 minute
13) Was together with Joystein again along this leg. Tried to get the most direct route possible...

Lost a bit of time here and there with punching and in the circle.

17) Lost a bit of time trying to find the exact crag. It's a difficult to read section of the map and I always have problems here.
23) Had problems finding the exact bolder that the control was on. Actually found it before Lundanes (we were all together here) Caught by Lundanes and Olli-Markus. Kept with them until 24.
27) Had a bit of trouble reading the clearing to 27, but it was found without too much hassle as Dylan was just leaving it.
28) Had a bit of trouble finding this one, lost around 10-15 seconds. Quite a mean control.

So lost around 7 and a half minutes without the 15-20 seconds on most controls here an then on in the circle navigation.

Orienteering (Dullstroom) 43:44 [3]
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

1) Mistake (45 seconds)
4) Better route along railway (±15 seconds)
5) Problem with the map here, depresssion extends further south, spent time finding where control was. (20 seconds). Also now I see the light green on the map...
7) Not the ideal route as proven by Nic's split. Should have stayed on the road. (20-30 seconds)
8) Turned out that there was only really one way to get to 8. Did not work out that it was actually in the green until I was right there. Spent a bit of time looking. (30 seconds-1 minute)
10) Really turned out horrible. Lost around 4 minutes.
11) Missed the ideal route and ended up running further so that I had to cross the dry ditches to get there. Lost around 1 minute
14) Missed the path completely so had to run around. (20 seconds)

So in the end I lose around 9 minutes. Really shocking run...
