Note

I have almost given up completely on some of my forest and colour coded orienteering for one reason. I cannot easily distinguish between green forest and clearings on the map. It is a real problem especially when the areas are so detailed (like in France). Seems like I am destined to be a sprint athlete :).

Orienteering race (WOC Sprint) 20:49 [3] 2.8 km (7:26 / km) +105m 6:16 / km
shoes: Inov8 Roclite 285

This turned out to be a bit of a shambles. I really screwed up in the forested section because of a lack of map contact. I just ran instead of stopping until I had a plan. This cost me at least 2 minutes on number 3 (and some nice scratches on my legs).

5: went too high on the road and ended up having to drop to the control, also didn't read control description so went around bottom of wall. (at least 20 seconds)

6: could have shaved off a bit of time by going high around the building, went just on the path below the building and then went around 20m down the road before deciding to go up (15-20 seconds)

7: bottom of wall instead of top. 6 seconds

7-8: could have gone up the road instead of down the stairs and then up toward the half out of bounds road. (5 seconds)

8-9: could have stayed on the road and cut in at the last moment. (5-10 seconds)

9-10: I think that right on the road would have been faster, I twisted through the undercover passageway where we had pizza. Also punched another control before I punched the right one. (5-10 seconds)

11-12: went the wrong way first and saw the uncrossable wall to the left. Then went too far to the right and up the main road instead of the road next to the casino. Could have saved at least 10 seconds.

Total time lost: around 3:15

That would have put me at around 18th position which was more realistic. Lots to work on for qualification next year.
