Orienteering race (Voortrekker Monument) 1:20:05 [3] 7.2 km (11:07 / km) +285m 9:17 / km
shoes: Montrail Rockridge

Not my best race and a very unhappy ankle at the end (even though it was strapped). Struggled a bit in the middle and was feeling rather sick. Picked up towards the end but it wasn't enough. Didn't feel like I was getting the controls spot on at all. I was also having a bit of trouble reading the light green (mistaking it for open or white in some areas). Certainly need to start working on a few things. Looking forward to the middle at Gauteng champs. I am going to try and wear long pants so I don't spend half of the race in severe pain...

Running race (Tsakane CC) 12:05 [3] 3.55 km (3:24 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Flite 195

Bit shorter than the quoted 4km, but I actually ran a time around what I wanted to (per km wise). Very twisty because it was in such a small area. Passed at least 10 people with my finish sprint :). [probably should have kicked earlier]

Running 1:01:36 [3] 12.0 km (5:08 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel-DS Sky Speed

Did 5 minute cross country runs. Included part of the hill on the one side of the track and the stadium stairs. One set was around 1500 m.

Had a 15 minute warm up and 20 minute warm down.

Note

It was fun speaking to the guys at athletics today. I am planning to do the cross country race on saturday (not expecting to do really well though). They said that the black guys are really scared to be beaten by the white guys. I suppose that it is kind of like us being beaten by the Japanese.

It's very interesting because I am running with guys who are easily faster than the best guys at WOC (a 22 year old Wits guy has run a 8:30 3000m and some of the SA guys were doing 2:40 1000m intervals). It's a little ridiculous really.

I may have convinced the one guy to come to one of the night runs though (probably the next one, not the one tomorrow) with the promise of him winning shoes if he can run anything less than around 3:45/km (they all say that that is easy :) ).
