2nd team, 3rd leg
253/1358
461 -> 346, -115
I was ready for this race. Warm up felt OK, little rain had cleared the air from pollen and the little thigh injury that I had was gone.
More analyzing when RG will be online.
And now it is.
Route
▷-1 I calculated two crosswise ditches but didn't fully know the spot I crossed the second one. After short lighthouse move I saw something at left
1-2 some serious mud right before the #2, stuck there for a while
2-3 OK
3-4 OK
4-5 Only very little mistake, should've gone straight east to the road from the #4, it seemed to be 7s faster
5-6 at halfway, left the road a bit too early and got stuck in the cut branches area, I was a bit lost with the ditches but kept the direction and was slightly surprised that I climbed the last uphill straight to the cp
6-7 OK
7-8 probably not that smart to go round the vertical green striped hill but there was a good path made by the 2nd leg guys so I probably didn't lose that much time, at the end I made a stupid mistake, didn't realise that the cp is inside the green area
8-9 a small mistake followed by a bigger one, just ran too fast for that point and went to a wrong forking, fast realised where I am, few swear words and of to the correct cp
9-10 OK, drank too much of water+sports drink and there were consequences
10-11 OK, at this point entered the mysterious Delta-shirted guy
11-12 of all the legs, I somehow am most pleased with this one, orienteered all by myself and cp was just where it was supposed to
12-13 kept my own mind and didn't go to the forking cp which lured all the others from my train
13-14 at this point I realised that this Delta-guy is worth stick with to
14-15 OK
15-16 followed D-g, at the very end he made a small mistake and I went straight to the cp, noticed that my stomach started to twist and turn
16-17 he landed the cp rock face more agressively and passed me
17-18 instantly after #16 I took my place after D-g, running behind him I noticed his massive calves, then it hit me, I've been following Petri "gigantic calves" Forsman for the past few legs (!), he led me to #17
18-19 Petri's back in front of me
19-20 ditto
20-21 running uphill to #20, a miracle happened, Petri's - a former national team orienteer's - pace was too slow for me, "sh*t, my calves overpower The Calves, the property of the guy who did stair leaps at VOL '97 without bending his knee a single degree and with double the pace to anyone", I was overwhelmed, I got loose of the Petri-train and took my own draisine.
21-22 got some extra power from the overtake but at the footpath realised that my stomach isn't in order, had to slow down a bit
22-23 saw Kari V right after leaving #21 but ran past him straight away
23-24 I wasn't fully sure how much there was still to go so I went to the purple mug, afterwards it was unnecessary, no-one else had taken the straight line to the #23 from there but it wasn't that bad
24-25 OK, realised that finish was approaching
25-26 there was a pretty moist point a the half way of the leg
26-27 started the final "sprint"
27-F apparently I was tired and my stomach wasn't OK either, I really tried to do a proper sprint but my whole body disagreed, I still managed to overtake probably 5 guys to the change over
According to RG: 7574 pixels = 16,05km.
I've never felt that tired after a race. Even Raatojuoksus have been piece of cake compared to this. ½h after finish I couldn't stand for 5min, I had to sit down.
For the record, the halogen lamp was totally useless. Small led for map reading would've been enough. Start time 02:16, weather - partly cloudy.
