Orienteering 1:25:00 [3] *** 6.0 mi (14:10 / mi)
shoes: VJ Panther

We drove from Venice to Vienna and made a training in Graz in between. Terrain was mostly pretty sh*tty at this time of year (a lot of Stinging nettle) and also a bit too much controls for my taste. But a new orienteerin country in pocket.
I have no idea about the distance...

oo.cup 5th day
This time I was a bit wiser and reserved more time to climb the steep hill from car park to the CC. Legs felt a lot better.
It was an easy start. Made the only mistake to #4. Came 15m from the cp but for some reason didn't think it would be there. Short trip to left and realised where I was. Then another DH skiing slope climb and soon the game had a new meaning. Pace had to be halved and map needed to be looked 10 x more. Eventhough I think I have so called 20/20 vision, I didn't know what direction the rock boulders faced and was I climbing a downhill or decending an uphill... Took it very carefully and it paid out. No notable mistakes and then again to yellow. At this point I realised some Brit had been running along me for few legs and I started to think he was in my class. Both of us led the duo several times, he mostly got ahead in dowhills and I passed him in uphills. Good race against him to the finish. He won me by few tens of meters and was ready to hand shake me as soon as I had punched. "Splendid battle!" he said.

Orienteering race 32:39 [5] ** 4.0 km (8:10 / km) +275m 6:04 / km
spiked:15/21c shoes: VJ Panther

OO.cup 4th day
I was beaten before the start.. Legs full of lactate from climbing from the car in a hurry. Still now I was on top of navigating from the start, though this time it was a lot easier as well.
Everything went well until easy peasy #11. For some reason I tried to find it much lower. Then another mistake to the next. Rest of the course went well but legs hadn't recovered from the climb to the start at all and in the last uphill I had to use 4WD.

OO.cup 3rd day
I had waited for this day for quite some time and the small map preview on the website was one of the main reasons to participate to the whole event. I guess this great anticipation went a bit over. Huge mistake to #1... Got hold of myself and all went well till #5. Then humongous mistake to #6. Lost interest to the whole sport for maybe seven legs but since they went well I got some kind of uplift to my spirit and put the race mode back on. Nice route choice leg to the finish. Think I made pretty good choice.

oo.cup 2nd day.
Way too much downhills for me... Couldn't focus on orienteering at all. Two major mistakes and 6 a bit smaller ones. One was that I got stuck in some spike plant plantasia. Lost 1 1/2 min to Aleksi though I went pretty straight.
Course setter challenges even J.Jaskari with his whole use of map.

Map maybe later.

Event: OO Cup

Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 1.3 km (11:32 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

To the start place.
1 PM

Orienteering race 34:02 [4] 3.8 km (8:57 / km)
spiked:19/22c shoes: VJ Panther

Wasn't sure should I start at all but I didn't travel 12h to sit in the rain in a car (since it was also raining cars... photo will explain it later).
Start was OKish. Then only real mistake to #5, maybe 1 1/2 min. Then some maybe russian guy catched me and we ran more or less together most of the way. In the downhills I lost a lot to him and catched him in the uphills.
It wasn't as difficult as I thought but I expect at least third day to be something else. Under 10min pace says it all.
22 controls = avg leg 173m...

Note

Off to Slovenia in few hours. At the moment I think I'm walking part of the model event today and DNS tomorrow's competition. Heel was pretty good this morning but got worse during the day eventhough I stayed pretty still...
5 PM

Orienteering 30:00 [2] *** 3.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

Model event, 80 % of the controls. Flats and especially uphills are good but downhills are pure agony. I even went backwards one steep place. Quite a bit of green but didn't slow up the pace that much. Max temperature was half an hour before the start 39C, after training "only" 35C.

I guess ima go. Just got an email from Graz that we can rerun the Mittwochtraining from May where Terkelsen sprained his ankle. The goal is to orienteer in three countries.

(injured) (rest day)

No fracture said the doc. I'm leaning on traveling though I can't put full weight on the left leg yet. I'll decide tomorrow. Might do so that I won't start on the first few days and run the last 2-3.

Note
(injured) (rest day)

The Doc said that it might be fracture and I'm waiting for her to analyze the x-rays. Paid a visit to my insurance company and they said that if the doctor will write "unable to travel" to her statement, all expences will be covered. So, if it's a fracture -> no go, if not -> we'll see...

Note
(injured) (rest day)

Yesterday I thought that the knee was worse but I hardly notice it through the pain in the left heel. It is swollen a bit all together but mostly from the outer side. Unable to put any weight on it and even with Gebrselassie steps it's somewhat excruciating. Thinking of going to the health center to get crutches.
While cycling to Patari yesterday I thought to myself that "take it easy" so I'm fit for Slovenia...but I didn't.

Anyone have any idea is it possible to get the entry fee back from the organiser or from travel insurance..?

Good games until the very end when I was doing a Maradona type of alone 2/3 of the pitch dribbling run when opponent came hard shoulder to shoulder, I was full speed and left foot to a pothole. Knee twisted to the wrong side (backwards) and also left heel suffered a hard impact (the surface of the pitch was very hard cause of the dry period). We'll see how it turns out...
That was the last time I'll do that kind of forward run...

Strength 30:00 [3]

Some circuit training at home. When the indoor temperature got below 28°C.
I guess this was the last non-shoe training and I'll put Copa Mundials on tomorrow. Heels are still red but I'm surprised how well they've healed under this type of weather. For a moment I was worried about Slovenia also.

Orienteering 1:20:00 [2] *** 7.0 km (11:26 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

Lahti Suunnistus "test run". Second time in LaSu terrain and still I don't have anything bad to say about it.
The course was close to 6km I think. I put the running to the start to the distance as well. Can't say that I would've made any mistakes (biggest one was from CC to the start). Maybe a few 15s ones but no-one would make mistakes with that pace. Today the heat took the juice out of me. And in the half way my heels got unbearable and not far from that I took both of my shoes off and ran on my socks. This terrain was a bit more difficult that way than yesterday...
I might not run for a while. There's half a thumb size skin missing from both of my heels. Afterwards I went to swim at The Great Brick Lake and I can say that the first minute was anything than soothing.

Orienteering 1:09:00 [3] *** 6.4 km (10:47 / km)
spiked:8/14c shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 340 'O'

First orienteering after Jukola and one of the rare LS-37 weekly events this summer. Cause the tendon in right foot has been extremely painful during the past days I thought I'd try a bit more comfortable shoes. But couldn't be more wrong. I had double socking but didn't help. Back of the left heel is now pink and bloody. At #12 it got so bad that I decided take the shoe off. Helped a lot. It was surprisingly easy to run with just socks. I left #15 and #16 untouched though I must've been pretty close to #15.

First FC Lahti - TPS in sport center, then straight to Patari to play myself and the day ended to World Cup final. Sweet!
Car's thermometer showed modest 32°c when I circled to Patari parking place. Still 29°c when we ended at 20:00.

Jokimaa (LAK) - Employment office. As fast as Kona can fly. I first thought it would get closed 16:00, then heard it's 15:45. Got there when they were putting a lock to the door but spoke my way in. Cycling 15min as fast as I can in 30°c and straight to a poorly ventilated office room. I think I've never sweated as much as I did there.

Round the tv-tower.
The tendon was OK on flat tracks / paths but on rocky small path it got painful again.

My day trip to the capital took longer than expected so didn't make it to LaSu terrain. Still two wednesdays to go so I still have a chance.

Note

Over 8h in my 29 degrees cube and cycling home in very humid conditions killed my small motivation peak. Hopefully I'll make it to test Lahti Suunnistus tracks tomorrow. Trip to Helsinki might last too long.

Running long 1:45:00 [1] 17.75 km (5:55 / km)

Thought it's time to do a long monday run. Haven't done those in a while. It came close I would've made a cut through The Great Brick Lake.

1min and Tytti is let loose to Danish terrain. I'm expecting great results!

Cycling 0 25:00 [2] 11.0 km (2:16 / km)

Home - Patari. Some head wind.
First real stage of TdF ended just fine before I left home. Tried to see jde in the crowd (or cycling with one of these on the side with maybe Babs at the back..they seemed to be the trend of today). I'm sure he was there?

Football 1:50:00 [2]
shoes: Adidas Copa Mundial

This morning the tendon was tight as a over pitched e-string (n.b. nothing to do with g-string...). The very hard surface of Patari football pitch didn't help either. While cycling back home I gave it a proped streching (pretty easy to do with bicycle pedal). Also cold tratment straight away when I got home. Hopefully it would give some sort of healing signs before Slovenia.

Running warm up/down 50:00 [1] 8.5 km (5:53 / km)

To Tiilijärventie, from 2/3 of uphill to the tv-tower to Tiilijärventie, Heinsuo loop from Tiilijärventie and after a dip into maybe world's best swimming lake - home from Tiilijärventie.
When the tondon got warm, it was all good.

Running race 10:00 [4] 2.5 km (4:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer XIII

DNF = Don't try to run after a Night of top-Fermented brew (Sahti)
It felt awful... Nothing much more to say about that...

Maybe 50km of cycling but rather slow speed.

Running 1:20:00 [2] 11.0 km (7:16 / km)
(injured) shoes: VJ Panther

Despite pretty sore foot, I decided to start short project called "Devil's Nest - the Slovenia simulator".

This time without a map, next time with. Running paths to the Nest and then zigzagging through.

After the run I gave my foot a good old cold treatment. 5min of running cold water gave the first pain free steps for 10min in a month. Then it was back to "normal".
