Only physical excercise was to walk/run ~600m long 111m high hill up with over 10kg of liquids in my hands.

Hiking 2:00:00 [1] **** 10.0 km (12:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

Putting the K-18-Suunnistus controls to the terrain. It was over a four hour job and still few is missing (I'll put them tomorrow if I have time...).
The route will give the participants the worst and the best what Päijät-Häme has to offer. I might publish the map tomorrow after start which is around 12:30.

Was supposed to go put K-18-Suunnistus control points to the forest but couldn't. My left foot's big toe got really sore after Smålkku and same thing after Yökuppi. Hopefully it's nothing major.

Yökuppi Grande Finale 2009.
I was one of the guys last year that was complaining about the short distance of the finale. This year Voimis said "careful what you wish for" and put 11.1km for A-class distance. Even B-class is longer than any of the A-class distances this year.
LIVE is on at 18:00 (17:00 CET). It's a MASS (100 entries!!) start. Me, Jusbet and Terkelsen have a bet about the race. Gives me a little bit more boost.
Unfortunately Assu is not running so one LIVE man down (maybe he'll lend his equipment to someone..?). Terkelsen=KLe, Antti Ö=AÖr and Yäkurko=?(maybe MTe) should be on the line. Also jleh=JLe, Jarno K=JKä and Topi P=TPe might be there.

Yökuppi finale. Tapanila.
I was nervous as hell. Probably more than in any other competition this season. Had to get back home two times cause I kept on forgetting stuff. Then on start I was totally late and missed the start probably by ½min. I put the LIVE on at the way to #1. Compared to these premises, I got a solid performance put together.
Running felt pretty good. I ate less than 2h before the start and that gave me some stomach cramps in downhills. But uphills, my god how they felt good. Few minor mistakes on the first forking. The biggest mistake was on second forking on #11. First a 45s mistake and then 15s of looking where to punch (it had snowed a bit which camouflaged the punch box). Then rest of the second forking was flawless. Then on last forking I made only few 10s mistakes. I couldn't keep the pace up on flats but uphills went really well. On the last cp I saw Vaajakosken Terä shirt and that gave some speed to flal as well. I beat him in the final sprint.
I am VERY satisfied about this race. Less than ½min/km to the winner who is in "B-national team" and got bronze from Finnish long distance Champs and I beat Finnish Night champ by almost 5min. Quite a few other really good guys also behind. Good ending for Yökuppi season!

I would've gone to monday run if Assu would've been there. Instead I thought to stay on couch and zzz...

Looks like my top3 goal for wednesday seems a bit optimistic. Assu will not run but JB made an entry a while ago.
There's almost a 100 runners that've made entry for Yökuppi Final. It'll be awesome! I would like to be photographing this event but unfortunately I'll have to earn myself a free meal by kicking Terkelsen's and Jusbet's ass.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [1] 3.0 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

One of our team's agendas was "galaktinen kulku". It was obvious that this wasn't one of those days.

Orienteering race (night-o) 1:06:42 [5] ** 8.9 km (7:30 / km) +450m 5:59 / km

Smålandskavlen. Map: Högalund.
The official ending of season 2009. It could've ended better..
We had a HyRa / LS-37 United as a team. Me, OMo, Wilho, Tukiainen and K.Niemi.
So I was heading to the woods in first place. On the way to Sweden (on the boat, about 2:00 o'clock to be exact..) I was sure I would beat Assu and Olli but climbing up to #1 I wasn't anymore. Running felt awful. On #3 winning team's Airila caught me by 2min and I tagged along. In the forest and on uphills I had no problem to follow him but on paths I had. From 7 to 8, the 1.6km of path was too much, I was on my own. One minute mistake to #8 (the highest point on clearing..) was the first real mistake. Then everything was fine up until the dotted fields. Here in Finland they are forbidden areas but apparently in Sweden they're not. I avoided them couple of times (~1½min loss according to GPS) but soon realised that it's acceptable to run on them. No real mistakes in the end but lots of stops and standing. I just wasn't prepared for "street-o". And my legs turned into jelly on 13-14 (121-105). Leg contained 50+ meters of climb on wet field.
So not the best physical day and technically it wasn't the best either. But I won both Mäntsälä guys and Olli (and quite a few guys which are better than me) which meant that it wasn't the worst either.

Distance from GPS: 10.63km. Climb calculated from the contours (GPS gave 660m..).

Running 45:00 [2] 7.78 km (5:47 / km)

Motivation level is now 10/10 and I would've wanted to do a longer one cause sunday will be a rest day. But I thought to save something for tomorrow also.

In two hours bus will head towards Helsinki. There might be some online stuff going on here but you never know (Swedish...). If I'm on the first leg, my start time is 19:27 CET (20:27 Finnish time).

Strength 1:00:00 [1]

Playing drums at Ahtiala junior high.
I know quite a few doesn't think it as a training but with my technique it is. I had a Polar strapped on to prove that. I played 1h45min but took a little guitaring break (after "First Date" and "Everlong") and there were couple of slow songs. Avg HR for the whole session was 92 but during the songs it was about 110. Max after Everlong was 124.
It felt absolutely splendid to get to play again! Got some steam out.

Note

Just got a phone call that my leg in Smålkku may change. My namesake is sick and the last leg might be too much for him. I actually wouldn't mind running a 12km at the moment. Good preparation for Yökuppi final.

Yökuppi LIVE is on at 18:30 (17:30 CET). It's a mass start so could be a thriller again. If my back gets bad, I'll save it for Småkkeri and walk the end of the route.

First forking went well. I was in front of Essi who finally won the whole thing. Then a smallish mistake, a bit bigger one and a major one (went out from the map, a total samaistusvirhe). Then I didn't feel much like running but Voimis and Terkelsen made me to try my best.
Running didn't feel good at all (eventhough it seems that it was pretty fast). The antibiotics I have to eat at the moment make a whirlwind into my stomach and I was close to hurl several times (didn't give Essi that joy).

Running 1:40:00 [2] 17.0 km (5:53 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer IX

Late at night I got an idea that monday runs must start tomorrow. My email gathered altogether four people (Assu, Jani, Keinänen) to Siiri statue which was double the amount I was expecting.
Yesterday's floorball wasn't the greatest idea for my back. Two Voltarens and ace bandage corset didn't help at all this time. Looks like I'll be sleeping with my socks on...

After last time's incidents at Ahtiala I wasn't sure should I go. I popped yet another Voltaren for my back and thought it would help to take the hits as well. And it turned out to be good idea.
After ½h of play I was heading for the ball and one step ahead of this one guy. While we both were running full speed he pushed me from behind and off I flew against concrete wall. Surprisingly I was able to continue eventhough my left hip/buttock suffered quite a hit. Fortunately this incident led to more calm playing for the rest of the time.

Only up.

Orienteering race 33:52 [5] *** 5.23 km (6:29 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

Halikko-viesti. Topjoki. Map: Protanmäki.
Can't really remember when I had run 1st leg in real relay last time. Maybe Sippu-Jukola 2005..? I was really nervous because of this. Didn't sleep almost at all at night... But then I realised that I've been at my best this season when it's needed the most (qualifications, Jukola, Finnish Champ Relay, Manna...). This gave me loads of confidense.
I started the race with "orienteer by yourself to #1" in mind. And I executed it 100%. Only problem was that I didn't find the control straight away and thus I was behind some slower people. Overtaking them took a lot of power, which I didn't have today as much as in Manna. Made couple of small mistakes later on but nothing major. They were kind of fast mistakes (no standing still that where the h*ll am I?).
This was the end of the official competition season. There's still Småkkeri left next weekend but that is more of having fun than nerve-wracking - grin my teeth - type of race. It wasn't the best I could do, but I know I could've done a lot worse also, easily!

Note
(rest day)

I guess especially night orienteering is bad for my back. Again almost in stay-in-bed-form.

But something good as well. My small change in diet and not eating at workplace cafeteria has turned my weight again into downward spiral. Accordingly my home scale adds about 2kg and this morning it gave numbers 80.4kg. So I should be way under 79kg at the moment. Haven't been this light in about eight years.

Start list

Running warm up/down 20:00 [1] 2.5 km (8:00 / km)

5-10min before the start and afterwards 10min from Harjutie to home.

Orienteering race (night-o) 53:06 [4] **** 5.7 km (9:19 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

Yökuppi and Lahti district night champs.
I had eaten 1½h before the start and first few legs it really felt like it. Also back got bad when I jumped down from a cliff. But these are just losers excuses..
The track was really challenging and in a way I'm happy that I found few of the most hardest ones pretty well on my standards. But then few stupid mistakes. Worst was the #10. I swear I saw over ten cliffs there but only few of 'em were in the map. I even tried to go to Jalle-mode again (like last week) but didn't help.

Afterwards there was a exquisite moment. Watching Germany vs. Finland from telly and on the same time try to understand what jleh was doing on 7-8. Can't get much better than that! On the other hand, it could... If this referee (a.k.a t*sser) would've kept his eyes open on 90', he would've seen the most obvious hand ball move from Klose and blown his whistle...

Event: 25Manna

Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 3.0 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

Orienteering race 52:26 [5] ** 8.3 km (6:19 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

25manna
I decided few hours before the race start that I'm fit for the longer 24th leg which I was assigned for quite some time. I forgot one bag home which contained Voltaren-pills which were supposed to get me through it. I got one Ibuprofein pill from Zeizei which helped a bit. Second problem this bag forgetting led to, was that all of my orienteering clothes were in it. I had only shoes with me (which would've been hard to borrow, even Tuxi and Assu have ½ a number smaller sizes). Got a shirt from Juha P and used my brother's "shorts" and socks.
Before I left out to the woods, I knew that we were dsq. Thus I decided to do a "double or nothing" run.
Half way to #1, some proper orienteer type of guy flew past me. Immediately I thought this was the back to follow. Closer to the cp, I realised he was going way right from the cp. I corrected the direction and found the cp spot on. Few legs of own work and then Halden 2 guy arrived. Because he had "Halden" written on his back, I was sure this was the guy to follow. I managed to stay behind him only 3½ legs, then it got too physical. Then the rest of the way I was more or less on my own. I saw this blue/white Swede here and there but not too much of help from him.
On the way to #11 my back got really bad on a mild down hill. And to top that, I ran way too fast the public control leg (there were too many people cheering!). This led to slow/tired running on rest of the legs. Despite the slow end, I am very pleased about the run. I lost e.g. less than 5min to Tero Föhr and MU's Kale Duck was just ½min faster, eventhough AÖ was sure it would be ten times that (now I know you read this).

Route

I'll write a report to LS-37-site when I have the energy for it. I'll also put pics online some time in near future. They'll include several familiar AP-people.
Edit. And here they are.

And special thanks to news agency Moisku for cheering, yet again!

Looks like I'm going. I'm not even close to 100% condition but I can run (but not go under any branch, fortunately there's no branches in Manna-terrain!). Tomorrow morning I'll decide will I run the long leg or something shorter.

Note
(rest day)

I've gone through of all my drug stashes and found some good stuff. Can't really bend the back but it doesn't hurt. I've also done quite a bit of hanging to stretch the back and it seems to help. I guess tomorrow morning I'll see if I'll hop on the bus or not.

Orienteering race (night-o) 1:27:57 [2] *** 6.3 km (13:58 / km)

Yökuppi at Pikijärvi.
For some reason my left lower back got worse and worse during the day and before the start it was really bad. I thought I'd still try.
Start was OK. I was leading the pack to #2 but then made a big mistake to #3. Maybe because I wasn't anymore in the lead, I kinda gave up and on the same time I "remembered" my back wasn't in order. Few controls it was OKish but it got really bad after a while. On every control I couldn't pick the emit from the ground level but I had to use the string with which it was attached to the tree and reel it up. I would've DNF if I wouldn't have clear record of points from all the Yökuppi's this season...

We'll see if I'll be able to go to Sweden on friday... Last time when my back was this bad it was two days in bed and over a week of rest from trainings.

My goal for this night was to beat Marika Teenager and it can be counted a success, I guess, but my overall victory from Jusbet got just a bit harder..

Running 35:00 [1] 5.5 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer IX

Mi buttocks are still pretty much sore (from the floorball..) but had to do something so I would be in better shape tomorrow. My goal is to win my brother in Yökuppi overall score but it'll be really difficult. It would mean about 800 points / competition when my average this season has been 620...

Note
(rest day)

I feel like crippled.. Getting onto a bike, cycling to Katrilli and walking normally at the store (and not looking like a zombie) was enough as a physical excercise today. The hits plus being the first floorball training with full intensity made me this way. We'll see if I'm fit even in Yökuppi...

But on the bright side, almost the final online ranking has arrived! I got my all time record points from the Night champs' saturday performance. I might be a point behing being in the 1st class but I'm honestly stoked about the position I'm at (Donald Duck's American Bantam). Last year it was over 300 places worse.

Floorball 1:45:00 [4]

At Ahtiala.
I could keep the pace good and with this managed to intercept the opponents attacks constantly. But this had a down side also. The opponent, a.k.a. pub club, have quite a few guys that take the game too seriously and they started to put a little pressure to me. Ending with having the wind knocked out of me, sore temple and few of my toes crushed. Everything ended up with bit of a bicker. This one guy started to yell at me for no reason at all. Fortunately I kept my cool but I'm not sure do I want to go play there again. I don't want any injury in a game where there's 10-55 year old people playing (not that I like injuries in any game...).

Running warm up/down 8:00 [4] 1.6 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

I had lost my other sock somewhere and I searched it for at least 10min. My start time was 20:54 and when I realised I'm not gonna find it, clock was 20:38 (1.6km to start). I took my ordinary black sock and put it to my foot, rapid shoe lacing and off towards the start. I was there when they were calling 20:55 but I had to put my jacket to plastic bag, find a number bib and attach it. I was 1½min before the start in the starting tent with bib in my hand. Attached it, and I was pleased that, oh yeah, ½min to start and I'm already ready. Tried to put my light on and nothing... The wires were not connected. Fixed that, deep breath and beeb, beeb...

Orienteering race 1:15:23 [5] **** 9.6 km (7:51 / km)
shoes: VJ Panther

While I was busy with the sock finding I forgot my control description holder to my bag. After start I examined the plastic thing around the map (name, anyone?) and was surprised that they had a one without an open end (when we got the maps back after the race, I was surprised that why everyone's maps are so wet from one end...). On the way to #1 the descriptions got so wet in my pocket that I started to bite my way inside the plastic. After a struggle I made it but putting a wet piece of paper inside in one piece and straight was a chalenge. When I was ready, guy that left 2min behind was already next to me. He turned out to be one of the "Vapasti hengittävät"-bros (hard to translate). For a while I read the map myself and was running a bit my own route but his performance was much more fluent and soon I realised that he found the controls way better as well. All the way to #7 I pretty much followed him but then I felt like his speed wasn't enough for me. I started to orienteer myself again but he was all the time in front of me. I just couldn't get pass of him. On some controls I was the one finding it but mostly it was Mikko's performance times two.
Physically I would've been able to follow the winner (at least close) but I'm sure I gained at least 10min help from Mikko in form of not making any mistakes.

Finnish Night Champs Qual

This could be it. I'll admit it beforehand so it'll be somewhat more acceptable, or something. My only goal is to see Adamski pretty soon after start and grab a hold of his shirt and keep that grip as far as I can.

Online results should come here.

Running warm up/down 25:00 [1] 3.0 km (8:20 / km)

Orienteering race 58:34 [5] **** 6.5 km (9:01 / km)

Finnish Night Champs, Tammisaari. Map: Trollböle.
So...no hold of Adamski's shirt I'm afraid... I didn't even see the guy.
Everything started alright. I found #1 well and right after saw Wilho wandering around looking for that #1. I pointed him the direction and continued my journey. For some reason I forgot my plan and didn't bother to read the map and just ran towards the #2. I got close, really close (see the RG), but never understood the cliffs. So, Adamski went his way and soon came Wilho. We united our force and found the #2. Then we continued our way together to #5, got separeted for a while but both made a big mistake to #6 and again we were together. Then on #7 Wilho drifted a bit to right and I got away from him. Rest of the way went well. From the half way I lost only 3min to the top, when I had lost 12min to that point.
