Running 45:00 [4] 9.82 km (4:35 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer IX

I meant to run around Varrassuo but my ankle is still a bit sore. Varrassuo has some nasty surprises for feet and ankles so I ran a bit faster on dry land. First 10min I ran as a pretty fast warm up and then almost as fast as I could.

Note

Club Brugge - FC Lahti 3-2.
My heart rate followed the radio announcer's voice pretty much. Basic level 120 and every desibel up meant two steps up in heart rate. Almost a good result over a team with 20 times bigger budget. And what I'm most proud about is that Lahti had again 8 guys on the pitch that have started their youth football career in Lahti. Oi Lahti On!!

Running 1:30:00 [2] 15.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer IX

Didn't feel that Rautakorpi iltarastit would give enough chalenge so I went to a jog. I visited iltarastit also but only to pick blueberries. 2½ litres in a bit more than an hour.

Running 55:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:47 / km)

Tour de Brick Lakes with Jape.
Ankle was pretty sore for the first two kilometers but the pain faded away after that. Wouldn't be surprised if the pain would rebirth double as bad after a short while.

Sunday Jul 26, 2009 #

Note

Same as yesterday.

Football 1:50:00 [3]
shoes: Adidas Copa Mundial

There were 30 guys/girls on the pitch so it wasn't the greatest match I've played.
My right knee and especially ankle suffered some twisting. Cause of it was that opponent's right winger (I was left back) was a Shefki Kuqi/Jonne Kemppinen type of determined player. The ankle didn't feel that bad after the match but this morning I can't fully load my weight on it. Fortunately it isn't swollen or anything.

Lots of walking and even some running in wellington boots.
Result was this.

(rest day)

Commuting was the only training today. Although in an hour my heart rate will be well beyond aerobic threshold. And it will stay there for 45' + 45'.

BTW, one of my best ever (from my point of view) shots I've taken was in today's ESS. Finally I was able to squeeze it in to something other than my gallery.

Edit: 90' anaerobic workout turned out fine -> flights to Belgium in search.

Orienteering warm up/down 54:00 [3] **** 7.4 km (7:18 / km)
shoes: Jalas S4

Already running first time to the starting point I was feeling hungry and thirsty. The cafeteria at our workplace is closed for the holiday season. I had one banana for lunch and that was pretty much all I had eaten the whole day.

Orienteering 18:25 [5] **** 1.64 km (11:14 / km)
shoes: Jalas S4

First time Haikonen-leg in Rautakorpi. Me and Jani went this our own routes. Jani won me quite a bit cause my route was a sh*tty one.

Orienteering 15:49 [5] **** 1.64 km (9:39 / km)
shoes: Jalas S4

2nd time. This time we ran the same route. I might've been faster on this one.
You can read more from the next Suunnistaja-magazine.

Running 50:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer IX

I was supposed to run "Haikonen-special's" three different routes today but didn't hear anything from my co-runners. New try tomorrow.

Still a bit sick.

Football 1:45:00 [3]
shoes: Adidas Copa Mundial

Would've thought that sauna/cottage-night with the boys would've made me more tired and "sick" but actually I was in top form. I was a left back (sometimes winger) and the opponent on my side was a Berat Sadik's little brother look-a-like who was pretty fast. I didn't let him do his usual tricks and he might've frustrated a bit in the end since he gave me pretty nasty dead leg. This time not to my thigh but my right calf. Have to see how well I can run tomorrow.

Running 55:00 [1] 9.17 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer IX

Tiredness continues. That was the best I could do today.

Thursday Jul 16, 2009 #

Note
(rest day)

Not sure can my physical wellbeing be called sick or not... No major symptons but e.g. cycling to work and back felt like 300km leg in Tour de France ending to a 17km long sprint up to Col du Tourmalet.

Got myself two big cardboard boxes full of "cryptic" LS-37 t-shirts today. I'm 95% satisfied with the drawing in front of the shirt. The 5% deduction is cause the control point printing is bit too small. Otherwise the printing quality in thin contour lines is better than I imagined.
I also got myself my new favourite shirt: The Duff.

Throat is again really sore. During the night I woke up repeatidly because of it.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1.4 km (7:09 / km)

Orienteering 1:10:00 [2] **** 5.6 km (12:30 / km)
shoes: Jalas S4

LaSu H21E saturday track.
That route will leave no one disappointed. Some serious orienteering involved but also hill climbing capability is needed.
It would've been nice to try out what time I would've gotten with race speed but today there were two obstacles. I was awfully tired and the vast amount of blueberries. Next week I'll go there with a bucket.

Cycling home was a thrill. First I saw a Capreolus capreolus (I think it was that), then I saw my first ever Vulpes vulpes that was really "orange" and with good thick fur. All the others have been greyish or with mange. And to finalize my exciting encounters, a chick was standing on my door step when I arrived home. Unfortunately it wasn't Jessica but Motacilla alba. I guess it had taken its first flight lesson and failed miserably. It's flight zone would've also needed some improvement. I went 1m away from it and it just stood there without a plan to move. It's father or mother was screaming its lungs out on top of my storehouse. The chick would've followed me in so I had to do some menacing moves to scare it.

Back to work and straight away a 10h day. When I got home, Veikkausliiga game was about to start on UK. Spent the evening on couch...

Running 1:15:00 [2] 13.0 km (5:46 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel DS Trainer IX

The launch of autumn training season - code name "Antti Örn is going down" - was today. It wasn't a spectacular start...legs remembered the ericaceaes of Kainuu bit too well. While I was running I decided that during the next week I'll go and run the XC-test run on my own.

Orienteering race 1:00:33 [4] *** 6.6 km (9:10 / km)

Map: Pyykkölänvaara
The start was all wrong. And with start I mean leaving the CC. It was 2.5km of a small path to the start and I left 23min before the beep. I was already tired when I got to the starting place. Then I stressed out that will my gps find the satellites in time (yes it did, 7s before the start) and last two minutes before the start I (like all the other in that start) stood in the middle of an ant-highway. There were dozens of ants climbing up my legs just few seconds before the start.
And as you can imagine from the intro, first four controls were a mess. Then little improvement for a while. Althogh this improvement included lack of consentration as well. E.g. on #6 I stood 5m away from the cp thinking where am I going and on #8 I ran to the cp, almost punched, looked the code of #7 and thought this isn't my cp and continued forward...
Then leg 11 was the last nail in the coffin. For some reason I started to follow this H35-40 guy from #10 cause his pace was just right and he was going to the right direction. Or was he? I was totally lost for a while and when I located myself for some reason I thought to call it quits - physically. I walked the uphills and ran pretty slowly on flats and downhills 'til the end. Still I managed to get some good splits which amazes me a bit.
It was my turn to buy beer for Antti.

KRV summarize.
Day1, it was good expect #4 and shoe laces. Without those it would've been close with Antti.
Day2, this I'm most happy about. The performance was 100% me and it was a pretty goos one.
Day3, best result but 95% of it goes to Jouni Mäkäräinen.
Day4, Could KRV have only three days in the future?
Antti earned four beers and an ABC-lunch. For Pete's sake, that's gotta change!
About 60 places up in the ranking so the direction is good. Although I have to admit that those KRV-ranking points had a 1.05 coefficient in them.

#1 was good but then a whole lot of small mistakes to almost every cp. Then on #7 some S-JKL guy punched the same time. Since I didn't know who he was or had I started before him or after, for few legs I did my own run. But soon I realised that this guy had potential. I started to rely more and more to his performance and read map only 20% of what I normally do. Without Jouni's help it might've been my turn to buy sauna beer for Antti.

A lot better than day before yesterday. New shoe laces, new (better) terrain and new concentration level.
In my scale everything went fine except #4 and #8. Going towards #4, in the middle of the leg I crossed a narrow bog. I looked left and it seemed that it ended there, hill up, little running and I'm in the spur, what spur?, there's no spur here, little standing/map reading and I located myself from the right.
Then on #8 I made a lot more stupid mistake. Everything was going moderately well until way before the clearing I started to read the next leg. Then I drifted to left, didn't bother to look left for how close the clearing end was and of to a wrong knoll. Only good side of this was that I found a route to the next control which no-one else did. Only executing it didn't go 100% well.
Again, Juha bought beer to Antti.

I was supposed to fill the KRV-descriptions after the trip but now I'm sitting in a car next to road 5 (3G area) to download Anysee software cause Antti's computer (/TV) ceased to work. Still 12min to go.
The first competition started all good. First two legs I knew all the time where I was but then #3 was a bit trickier. I thought I was a bit more to the right when I started to go over the bog but apparently I wasn't. The rest of the way was technically OKish but gearwise not. I've never had my o-shoe's laces snapped into two. 1/3 of the way left and my left shoe was in my foot without the laces. It dropped of few times into the bog and my foot got really sore cause it kept twisting and turning inside the shoe. 3½min mistake and probably 2-3min extra because of the shoe.
Antti earned the sauna beer, Juha bought it.

Le tour de Brique Lac avec Jacques, Jules et Vincent.
I finished eating 3min before I opened the front door. But for some unknown reason I didn't get any stomach cramps even though I'm pretty prone to them.
Towards the end the feeling got a lot better and afterwards I'm pretty confident that I'm going to earn two sauna beers within the next week.

H45AL in Rautakorpi. I meant to run ~5km but cycling there took a bit more time than I thought and didn't want that Pekka has to wait for my return. Again, brilliant route, terrain and map.
