Four a side at Energiahalli with co-workers. First half an hour tempo was like in a real game but then lack of subs started to have an effect, mostly on the other guys of course.

Playing floorball at Energiahalli has almost everytime made my calfs go concrete. So I decided to go for a 10km run just to prepare for tomorrow.

Last autumn I measured 1000m at Vesala straight (old Tampere road) and on that 10km run I thought to test my speed a bit. First I was supposed to run only once but the time was so lousy that had to run it also on the way back.

Yesterday's Californication+Weeds, "yellow tagged" Fazer marjapiirakka and first real stretching since Salppuri sport gymnasium muscle maintenance classes. Body and mind was in Zen-mode afterwards.

Didn't feel comfortable on second place at LS-37-group training times but didn't have time for 2+h training. Again I decided to cycle a bit faster so it could be counted as a training. I had bit of a tail on my side and 50% of the way the rotary broom tractor had paid a visit. For a looong long time it was enjoyable to ride a bike.

Because Assu in Levi, Jape in Denmark and so on there was no monday run from SC. I thought that skiing tracks could be in good shape and I was right. Only problem was that my "ski-o route" (small paths) to the closest groomed track is melting away. Soon I'll have to walk more than 50m to get to ski and that may be too much.

Because Aprilliviesti is next wednesday, we ran the test run already today.
Weather was good but the track surface wasn't. It had snowed fresh snow during the night and it was slippery even with orienteering shoes. And I think that every lap the track got even worse due to us running on it and making the snow looser.
Running felt pretty good. Second lap the best. On the last lap I was few seconds behind the first two after the hill but I was able to pick up the pace and made a 10s improvement. I was aiming for under 31' but I guess the snow added 1-1½min to the time compared to unfrozen asphalt.

In some parts wind had dropped a lot of litter on the trail but then again some parts were splendid.
Looks like Jape's "best ever" shape wasn't fully true. 9th best from VeVe and almost a min/km to Tero. It's still a long way to ranking < 28.

We were supposed to go for a run about five o'clock but then I realised that Finland's gane was alredy at five.
First 40min we ran just under 6min pace (cause I had just eaten) but towards the end it was closer to five. I got home just for the kick off. Now it's time for the toughest training of today!!
Whatta f*uck's wrong with TV Viisi!?!?!?!? "No signal". Now I'll have to settle with www.justin.tv.

I was still 1805 at work so 55min to cycle home, eat, change clothes and get to Jalkaranta. That meant that I had to put those pedals moving. Probably one of my best times home bound.

Gymstick training by Jarkka. Usually not too fond of these strength training gadgets but this did the trick. A bit too much to be exact -> left shoulder cramped at the end.

Note

The last Korttelikuppi street o event of this winter will be today. If there is LIVE feed, my small dot will pop up here around 18:30 (17:30CET). For the couple of last times the software on the mobile phone has crashed and the dot has stopped moving, hopefully not today.

Had a litlle sore throat this morning and it didn't get any better during the day. This was my all-yökuppi&korttelikuppi-events-within-a-year-event so I had to go.
On the drive there I did some Serj Tankian imitating and it didn't help the throat. Decided to take it with 90% speed and I almost stuck with that. To few controls I had to test how full speed felt like->OK. I guess tomorrow morning I'll know is the throat better or should I turn more to Chris Cornell imitation for few days.

More tired from yesterday than I thought. Guess it really was a tough weather...
While cycling back home from work I decided not do anything else cause my thighs and calfs didn't want to take part in the pedaling process. Then just before home the sun came out and it just called me to take the skis out of the shed. Did that already on the way in so I wouldn't back down.
Took it really easy and made some sprints at the end for tomorrow. It's something I don't normally do but since my legs aren't as "fresh" as they could, had to try something.

For f*ck's sake!! Yesterday's weather was the best what Finnish winter can offer, today's anything but...
Because of the Pelicans' game at SC, we started from Pullis. I was 5min late and Jape and Assu had to wait for me, again.. It had started to snow about an hour before and that bloody snow just kept on coming. The air was full of snow, the ground was full of snow and Assu's eyebrown's were full of snow. Seriously, they were 2cm thick and he's no Kauko "Turbo" Turunen on his own. After ½h of running Jape was ready to call it a day but couple of perkeles and few other profanities and we took direction away from Hollola.
Can't say that it was fun but at least the 1½+h monday run was again a done deal.

Tiilikangas-Messilä-Vääksy-Messilä-Tiilikangas.
With Jape, Jani and zeizei. Jape was Jape and vanished after few kilometers. We were far from the closest coast-line. I had just looked back and he was 50m behind me. A minute after I couldn't see anyone... Now he's ICQ-online so atleast he's not in the bottom of Vesijärvi.
Zeizei's pace was promising. I had no chance to follow him. Though I suspect I tried to enjoy the brilliant weather and gliding a bit more. Even on the way back he left Jani and I almost a kilometer behind.
At the Vääksy hot chocolate break we saw a Golden Eagle probably 500m away from us. We tried to ski closer but it kept on flying further and further. Quite a magnificent creature!
Skiing back we had moderate tailwind on our side and in some places the pace was under 3min/km. Why can't it always be so easy!?!

Some uphills with Jape. Place was Messilä (Jalkarannantie, towards Jalkaranta). Could've gone faster since after the last one I felt that I had just found the correct pace. In 5th and 6th Jape didn't get too far ahead. He made the difference in the not so steep places.

With Jape and Jani (joined the half way). The trails were pretty icy. Heinsuo was splendid but the closer the Tapanila we got, it was more like ice skating ring. There's still lots of snow on the trails so the icyness is just due to lazyness of the snow groomer driver. Hopefully it won't be that icy on the ice tomorrow.

Waited for the tempereature to go below zero, that never happened. The gliding was still OK. In some places there starts to be some litter fallen from the trees but not too bad yet.

Ooh yeah!!! (said in a Duffman style)
The korttelikuppi went well. Another sweet victory from Antti and also my brother was few seconds behind. I catched them on the last fork seven controls to finish. Me and Juha took the same routes (Antti tried his own ones) 'til second last control and then I took the right choise and Juha+Antti took the left. Mine might have been a better one and I was at the last control 7m before Juha and 25m before Antti. Juha had no chance in the sprint to the finish and Antti was just too far away. Pretty pleased with the result.
EDIT (next morning)
So it seems that I earned my first ever dsq in any race. #2 was behind a fence which I went through. Didn't realise at the time that the race was with sprint rules (it wasn't ever mentioned anywhere). Too bad, I would've gotten my best points for this season.

Waiting anxiously for tomorrow's Korttelikuppi. Mass start and Antti+brother on the same starting line. Should be fun.

Monday run with Jape, Assu and Juuso.
Jape and I decided to run to the Sports Center. As "always", we were there just in time. Maybe 3 seconds before six o'clock...
Assu and Juuso ran the basic SC-Messilä-VT12-SC and Jape and I hopped off the train half way. In some places asphalt was making its way to freedom through the ice but mainly it was still sleet and ice.

My freestyle skis glided like they were pretty much fully klistered. Only the classic grooves were in good shape so I douple poled probably 80% of the way. That's why I should probably do something for the legs as well.

I decided to run to our club's board's meeting but I made this decision so late that my pace had to be 4ish to be there in time. I was few minutes late. Ran back a bit slower but also made some extra kms. I had eaten only three pieces of bread (and two cookies at the meeting) today so last few kilometers were quite hard.

It was quite close with being in time at the start. The announcer yelled "two minutes to the start!!" and at that point I was going inside to leave some of my clothes to the locker room. 10s to the start and I found myself from front row.

Few days ago I wrote to Matikka's log that 39:30 would be top performance at this point. Apparently I know my fittness pretty well: 39:31 was the time.
After 500m I started to feel increasing stomach cramp eventhough I ate pretty light breakfast almost 4h before the race.
At 2.5km Antti Örn appeared to the right side of me and at that point I decided that there's my rival #1 for today. At 4km Antti started to make some gap and I was a bit worried. 5km split was 19:53. The cramp started to fade after 6.5km and I began my pursuit. At 8km Antti was probably still 50-70m ahead but my running felt better than ever and the gap was narrowing rapidly. Less than 500m to the finish and I overtook him. 150m to the finish and my legs were like led but the fear of that closing MU-shirt kept the pace adequate. First time ever under 40min and I was pretty pleased. Although I lost almost a minute to my brother and Matikka so can't be too satisfied...

It was a bit snowy line orienteering training at Pirkkola but still a good one. In some places had to look really carefully where to go and some not so snowy paths had a tendency to lure to wrong direction. Found 8/9 of the controls. Last one I missed by few meters.

I came home from work and what did I find from my mailbox. A note that there's a parcel waiting me at the postal office. Start Fitness couldn't have better timing! I was supposed use car to get to play floorball but I just had to try my new DS Trainers. I also decided to run really slowly but those new shoes just kept on rolling. That gave a bit more boost for tomorrow.

Some all-round strength exercises by Virpi. First half an hour I did everything that was supposed to but then I realised that this is too much for tomorrow and did rest about half the pace.

This time the floorball session was pretty good. Enough good players on each side and everybody gave almost their best. As the number of subs gradually reduced the pace got a bit slower.

The tiredness continues. Uphills and in un-urban places the 30cm snow did their job. On even streets running felt pretty good.
When I cycled from work I was sure that today's points will start with 6 or 7 but it seems that 818 it is. A bit of a surprise that is.

Mostly the gliding was OK but in some uphills there were too much of loose snow. My thighs remembered yesterday's run a bit too well and the steepest hills took a lot of time.

Best skiing of the winter. Even Northug would've been amazed that "is that the way one should do Wassberg skiing?!?".
My back had a little soreness on the right side for the first hour or so but it warmed up while doing few kilometers of douple poling. Hopefully that's the last of that.

It felt pretty good First time on this training season I was able to really push it. The streets were pretty snowy (kinda like powder snow) and it affected the time quite a bit. Only down side was the great deviation of lap times. I'm usually pretty good with keeping the pace constant but on the second lap I just couldn't believe I could run all the laps under 10:30.

I use bicycle every day to work and not going to put it as a training every day but today it can be counted as a real training. Snowplough driver hadn't done that good of a job and to both directions it took almost double the time than normally.
