Walking 30:00 [1]

With W, first on powerline but snowmobilers appeared right after we got there & hung around with noise & fumes.Went to the elementary school where is was quiet. No snowshoes or skis so we were confined to asphalt. I got skis waxed but events conspired against me for today.

Skate skiing 35:00 [1]

BHS - stopped to look at Turee with Beth & W just before sunset. Snow-blanketed, lovely as always, and, an added touch, it looked like someone had fallen thru the ice. Thought snowmobile looking at tracks - some ski tracks, too - I couldn’t be sure - tho the hole was big.

Noted the grooming so went home to get skis and did several laps on the front and center oval. Calm, crescent moon, Jupiter & Saturn on display, and, of course, great snow though I had no glide to speak of on these 2 yrs unused skis. Waxing comes next. Balance got up to speed anyway. Had some nice conversation with the groomer who lives in Wilmot.

Snow shovelling 1:20:00 [2]

4 sessions, at least it's light snow, 14-16".

It was a nor'easter that dropped a lot of snow on the eastern seaboard, record amounts in parts of PA and perhaps elsewhere. Snow shoeing would have been a good start for fun and games but I lacked energy after the shovelling.

Walking 33:04 [1] 1.03 mi (32:15 / mi)

SPS walk with W. Quiet, pleasant walk thru fields and woods. Tomorrow will be a winter wonderland to put it optimistically.
4 PM

Walking 26:08 [1] 0.68 mi (38:10 / mi) +15m 35:44 / mi

BHS end of day with W. Surprises - first a large group standing in front of the school, school bus right behind me, the alpine team waiting for their lift to Proctor Academy for ski practice. Then seeing close to 40 kids doing their nordic practice on the old snow and making a good go of it. Finally, 4 kids playing hockey on frozen, smooth Turee - a winter triumvirate, so to speak and completely unanticipated. I've been out of touch. There is no snow at St Paul's or at White Farm.

Walking 1:00:00 [1]

AM walk with W via "her car", the one she tolerates, now on the ready. Light but cold wind on the open PL. Gravitated to the sun side and into sheltered woods. Pondered where one might set up a tent were one homeless - shelter out of sight & wind, early sun and likely more.

PM with Beth & W at Old Stumpfield. Gate closed for season. Remains a favorite destination. End of day

Note

Charlie, I confess. We don’t kill them. I don’t think we ever have. We (me generally, Beth places traps) take them to the nearby brush dump and let them go in an open structure full of stuff to hide in. Possibly the scents and tunnels from their “forebears" are welcoming. House mice maybe have never even been outside... Mice are tough and live to their fullest potential except when they devolve to free-loading in one’s home and especially leaving “calling cards” here and there. Then they must go, one way or another!

From our home-spun, now past, entertainment days: Bashful mouse. Are you crazy? Well, we didn’t vote for Trump!:-)

BTW: how about for good old days? A black SUV at the airport?

Note

I opened the trap and a mouse pops out & is off. Shucks...but as occasionally there is a second timid one, caught on camera.

Walking 45:00 [2]

Great Hill with Willow. Foggy/misty mysterious. Have been feeling more guilty re not being able to take W for a worthwhile walk without the station wagon for a week now - so for second time, I put her in my car, not the least dog friendly, & we made it to the start without too much ado. More work for me with the snow-covered ground. This view, to my mind today, lacked only a Civil War cannon.
