Weightexercise workout 45:00 [1]

Walking 1:15:04 [1] 3.47 mi (21:38 / mi) +91m 20:00 / mi

Moderately brisk SPS walk. Gray & chilly by mid-PM. Saw 7 dogs, 6 with smiles and 1 small wary but silent black poodle. Also some 40 SPS XC runners. Guys a group of nearly 20 and 15' later two groups of 10 each girls, both on the XC course. Felt nice being there. Had been awhile. Thought of jogging some, esp when I was on the track, but didn't.

Cardio 44:20 intensity: (14:20 @1) + (15:00 @2) + (15:00 @3) 2.02 mi (21:57 / mi) +83m 19:28 / mi

Visited the power line and went down to the slough. Had not been there in many months. Once Mocha got too old to walk that far it got off the radar. Beaver dam evidently breached, beavers gone as it is only a stream at this time. Blustery west wind, nice late pm lighting. After going to the slough, I did a hill loop 5 times and felt much better about it for the last two.

Orienteering 1:09:41 [2] 2.32 mi (30:02 / mi) +63m 27:42 / mi

At Exeter TF, Oaklands section on my way back from boat work in Eliot. Parked off exit 10. Had a map dated spring,1996 - didn't think about that until feedback was not quite what I was expecting. I covered some legs from a long-ago UNO meet red course (scribble on back says "11/8/97, Northern NE Champs"). Heading back to parking, I encountered a subdivision and did my best to negotiate my way out. I passed quite a few houses before I could get back in the woods toward #9 - and by the time I finally figured out where I was, it was <200m from parking, so lost O well past #9. Interesting coincidence for me that I was baffled by #9 in '97 as I was today but for a different reason.

I seem to have forgotten that this is an excellent orienteering forest of detailed contours, abundant rock features and generally open hardwood forest floor. Perhaps it is time for an A meet day (or possibly 2) there. I can't recall if there was ever an A meet at ETF.

Came home to the last of a thunder and lightening storm, hail on the open ground in front of the house.

Cardio 35:10 [2] 2.11 mi (16:40 / mi) +1m 16:38 / mi

BHS track, fine day. Went after work & going home. After yesterday, BHS seemed a reasonable direction to head. Feels like I forgot how to "run" but loosened up & was glad for having done it. No noticing of the hamstring but I was only just moving. Turee was a mirror.

Thought of the hot summer mornings when stretches of shade were much appreciated even before 0800. Last there 8/28. No lumbago this morning, perhaps due to nsaid.

Wood hauling/stacking 1:30:00 [2]

Considered the NEOC motala at Houghton’s Pond but couldn’t get interested in 160 miles RT for a 4-5k O. Seemed a good training event though. Miles in the car are more costly vs years ago — and wear more thin with me these days.

340 RT to western MA last Sat-Sun, followed by another 120 RT Sunday eve to Portsmouth. 340 RT to Lyme CT this past Wed-Thurs and would have been some 160 mi today for the orienteering.

Ended up moving & stacking firewood with Janelle for about an hour and a half. Hard, honest work, no way around it. Good chance for lumbago in the morning.

Stopped at Turee on the way to town around 5pm to admire a bleak, November-like scene, the NW wind whipping up whitecaps. There were several warmly-dressed people on the track. Made me think I've missed it. The hamstring soreness etc is receding as I've asked nothing of it over the past month.
