Cardio 30:17 [3] 2.09 mi (14:29 / mi) +1m 14:28 / mi

BHS first thing. Grey, no sun, still wet from heavy rain, 73F. Felt good, did get inside right thigh twinge as possible forewarning for getting too "frisky" so I backed off.

Went to Turee as it started to rain. Had a chat with a fellow who owned an identical car about sealed transmissions & their service & fate.

Note

Left for Bear Brook at 3:45, after work & a nap, with the idea of doing something like last Fri. It was sunny enough at home tho I knew of the prospect of rain. On the way, the immediate fcst was a severe thunder storm and flash flood watch. It very quickly became dark and then first drops on Podunk Rd. Drove to the intersection where I planned to leave the car & shortly the rain fall was torrential. No sane choice but to give up & depart that forest crossroads. First visit in 40+ yrs with literally not getting out of arm's reach of the car. Enough deluge to slow traffic to a crawl on way back. Got the very best/closest parking spot at the NHSLS in returning. At least buying some wine worked out fine. First thing in the morning should be the mantra when possible for training in hot, humid wx.

Cardio 31:02 [3] 2.09 mi (14:52 / mi) +1m 14:51 / mi

BHS track - SloGo morning. Got there at 7:20 & already warm in the sun. We had tremendous rain last night. I thought there'd be more residual cooling but not so in the open. I was hot by the 3rd 200 but wetting my singlet in the local rest room sink made a decent difference. Felt better in the 200s. Read the paper in the shade at Turee after.

Kayaking 1:30:02 [1] 2.11 mi (42:40 / mi) +1m 42:36 / mi

Kayaking on Turkey Pond with Beth around 9a. Gate to boathouse was open. Had it been closed, we would have gone somewhere else. But we managed to meet the boat house caretaker who lives in our neighborhood and who pointed out that it's only closed and thus passable during daytime. Noisy near 89 and very quiet at top. Went to the dam. Kayaking, at least on ponds, has become a greater %age of reading time vs paddling but I'd credit upper body
activity.

Orienteering 1:21:33 [2] 2.9 mi (28:07 / mi) +64m 26:19 / mi

Nottingcook O walk. Got a ride from Beth to Great Hill parking. Made my way back more or less straight after first part. Some really lovely places as well as some gnarly areas. Nottingcook might be said to be like “the girl next door” which is quite incorrect. Both are (or were) nice. Credit where credit’s due. Stopped by a trim-O marker: still there, virtually never used - except for fellows such as this.

Then, at a path intersection, a control flag hanging on a pine bough.... That was disorienting but it fell in place - from the May OLLI course & somehow escaped me. Finally, crossed the power line wondering if I wanted to go back in the woods vs the easy way on the road. Plowed back in and was rewarded with fairly open space between trees and large swaths of ferns, being wet terrain. Stayed along interesting contours then N thru the ferns, then neighbor’s house, found a small bridge & done.
